Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 чер 2024
- The twin-turbocharged 2018 Kia Stinger GT is one of the most anticipated cars of recent times. Inspired by the original AM115 Maserati Ghibli of the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Stinger is also the South Korean brand’s first proper attempt at building a genuine gran turismo...

Great review. Without a doubt, the best and most comprehensive review for this car I have seen to date. Well done.
Wow Keith Messer, thanks so much for your kind words - very, very much appreciated.
Stoked you like the clip and hope you like some of my other vids too :D
It doesn’t take long for comments from snobs to appear. Companies like Kia are working on moving on from their longstanding market segment by producing better and different products, yet despite this being one of their earliest efforts, it is quickly compared with very well-established marques and guess what happens next? The Stinger is inevitably shot down with crap like “they should stick with making cheap crap” because, I suppose, it’s easier to stick to only one way of understanding the world around you rather than have this view challenged or even shifted because:
1. That’s just too hard
2. That’s beyond what one’s mind can manage
3. Newcomers can never improve what they do to any respectable degree
4. Change is frightening
Good unload Bigdaddy Kay, and I agree. As I've said, I think the Stinger GT and the i30 N both represent impressive points in the path of both South Korean brands. Give them a bit more time, and these cars will be battling at the very top.
Agreed. The Stinger is a great vehicle. Much better than some models from BMW, Audi & MB. Snobs like brand names - car guys like good cars. This is a great one.
Dave, this is another brilliant detailed review! Great stuff!
Cheers silverathlon! It can be a bit tricky working out what things to include and what things not to worry about, but I'm glad you (and others) are enjoying the extra information and depth. More to come :D
Another great review Dave!
Cheers Steve34! Just really stoked people seem to be liking what I'm doing. More to come :D
...thanks Dave...one of the very best reviews..great job...
Oh wow mate, thanks so much for saying so. Believe me, there are more videos coming, just real life/work has been getting in the way haha.
Cheers again :D
Awesome review
Cheers Arun p kumar, glad you dug it man :)
Just found your channel this is a great level i will follow on yr others. Man i am torn between the red color and blue , but when i see this black and red interior, this is the awesome.!!
Haha cheers Willie Boon, well I'm glad you found the channel and I'm stoked you like the videos.
I know black is a tricky colour for video, but this combo is pretty plush I reckon. Good luck with getting the spec you want and thanks for watching and (hopefully) subscribing ;-)
Dave! Just found your channel when looking for stinger reviews. Loved your work on Caradvice! Great review bud. Keep up the good work! Subbed!
Oh hey man, thanks - you're a legend.
Glad you like the vids and cheers for the sub and positive feedback. You based in Oz?
@@DaveZalstein yeah, just outside Melbourne. Just saw your review of the golf R32, too. Those Tassie roads would be the perfect spot for the test.
I owned one a couple of years ago and miss that bloody exhaust note every single day. Actually submitted my written review of it into the Caradvice correspondent comp a few years back, but missed out on the final, sadly.
Keep up the great work, Dave!
@@deganellis Awesome! Cheers and thanks for all the continued support :D
Dave just an amazing refiew as always. Great work! I have to say, I don't care about the rear wrap around reflector as much as I mind the fake hood vents. My biggest grip is, of course, the fact that there is no manual transmission option.
Oh man, I hear ya. I think this with a more vocal exhaust system and a manual transmission would be seriously, seriously entertaining :D
And thanks too for all the continued support and encouragement - much appreciated :)
What a beautiful car...the Koreans have come a long way. They’re smoking the Germans with some of their sporty offerings from Kia and Hyundai. Dave, the sales for the Holden Commodore is tumbling and over 70% of Stinger buyers are going for the most expensive variant. Says a lot isn’t it.
Definitely some better product coming out of Korea these days, and clearly people are taking these brands more seriously, which is great.
Hope you liked the video too vikash74 ;-)
They have Audi and BMW engineers working for them. Started in 2011 with the new KIA look of the tiger nose. Before this, the Optima SX/SX-L was their fastest car. 2012 Optima SX Turbo is 274hp ( I have one).
Fantastic car. One of the all around best vehicles out today on the market. Beat many of the German cars at their own game. Great for Kia !! And for car enthusiasts.
Extra credit to the Korean brands too, given cars like this and the Hyundai i30 N are only in their first generations. Given some more time and fine-tuning, these have the potential to get even better.
Hope you liked the video :D
I love it
The car or the video? haha
Great review! Wish Canada got the same bright colours as you do but instead here we get 2 greys, black, white, silver, maroon, etc. Only nice colour is blue but it's rare as hen's teeth.
Ah, what a shame. Mind you, the yellow we have here is pretty lairy haha.
Glad you liked the video though, and a massive thanks for subscribing :D
I own a GT this is a great review well done!
Awesome sauce AV8R767, thanks! Glad you liked it.
How long have you had yours for? What colour? And how are you finding it?
#metoo
Dave Zalstein Had mine since feb 2018 and I’m loving it.
Dave Zalstein oh and it’s white!
Nice man! I rather dig the white - good move ;-)
So living in sunny, snow free AZ would you recommend RWD or AWD Stinger GT?
Hi Cindy, to be honest, it will rarely make any difference in terms of how the car will drive and handle for the majority of driving you're likely to do - on a racetrack things could be different but on the road, I wouldn't worry.
That means, whichever one you want or best suits your budget. Regardless, I hope you enjoy it if you get it, and drive safe :D
@@DaveZalstein thank you Dave, I am getting the RWD. By the way it was a great review!
@@cindykeselowski899 Oh awesome news - congrats! Hope you enjoy every second with it - and be sure not to do skids where you shouldn't... ;-)
And thank for your kind words and for subscribing - very much appreciated and glad you dug the video.
Cheers :D
@@cindykeselowski899 how is your Stinger after 1 year ownership?
that german design is really coming out now.
Having the likes of Peter Schreyer and Gregory Guillaume around has definitely helped bring the brand forward. Do you like the looks overall? Anything you don't like?
Agreed. The only thing I don't like is the fake vents but honestly, I wouldn't be bothered, just take my money, give me the highest trim with grey exterior and two tone red and black interior.
Haha SOLD! Sounds like your next purchase may be well and truly decided upon Vencarter. Good luck with it all :D
give me 4 years haha, keep up the videos!
It's good to have a goal ;-)
Thanks Vencarter, will do.
Love my 14 optima turbo but I'd love the twin turbo 3.3
Maybe time for an upgrade StreetKiaz NewMexico...?
Dave Zalstein what you drive bro
Hey StreetKiaz NewMexico, I sold my 2006 VW Polo GTI and my hill climb-spec S13 Nissan Sileighty to afford this silly green thing ;-)
ua-cam.com/video/XWk_AVeZa44/v-deo.html
The 3.3 tt is a great car.
I am stuck , in the market for a new car and looking at the BMW M3/M4 , Audi RS3, 5.0 Mustang and this .. I have a real soft spot for the KIA as i think it is something that can do it all . What’s your long term thoughts on the kIA ?
Hi @guygoodwin, sorry for the huuuuuuge delay - life got in the way of UA-cam. My apologies. Are you still looking? Did you decide on something? I still quite like the Kia Stinger but I'd be curious to know what you ended up going with.
Cheers.
@@DaveZalstein Hey mate . No problems , I get that hahahah . I actually went with an RS3 which I had for about a year and a bit. Recently sold it and bought a completely not practical R35 GTR .. I still have a soft spot for the Kia .. have you still got it and if so are you still enjoying it ?
An R35 GTR is quite a step up@@guygoodwin, congrats! What was the RS3 like? The Kia in the video was a press/media car, not mine, but I still see plenty around and owners seem to be hanging onto them.
@@DaveZalstein A little different hahah . I really miss the RS3 . Found it ticked all the boxes and was a great little rocket ship..
Haha@@guygoodwin, what a story! An R35 GT-R is quite a shift. How's that experience been?
And sadly no, the Kia Stinger was a press/media car, not mine. Still a fun rig though and still seem to be popular with owners who have them seeming to hang onto them.
Cheers and all the best.
Why does everyone complain about the seat not folding flat? It means the rear seats are sculpted and are way more comfortable than the seats you get and have flat folding. The times I'll have people in the back not sliding off their seat will be 100's of times more than needing a flat folding seat.
Um, I didn't complain about it mate, merely called out that they don't - a point a lot of people might miss when quickly looking at one in a dealership (for example). Just trying to help brother.
Peace.
@@DaveZalstein OK so complain might have been too strong a word. But most reviews make quite a big deal of cars that do this. Meant no offence. Have to say I cannot wait to pick mine up this weekend (hopefully). The rear seat folding flat or not are way better on this than Audi or BMW. Least the outters, the middle one looks very high.
We good @@invisiblekid99 - no stress, I hear ya. Enjoy the car, enjoy driving it, and I have no doubt it'll put a smile on your face every day.
Cheers for watching too :D
Well for a new car (some may say unproven) those sales numbers are pretty good. Can't expect to outsell a commodore in the first couple of years
Fair point tankmaverick99, but remember too that Commodore sales figures have dropped significantly from back in the car's heyday. People (in Oz anyway) stopped buying large cars - Falcon gone, locally-built Commodore now gone too. Will the new European-built 'Commodore' - now a mid-size car - improve figures for Holden? Possibly, but if a lot of punters really want a rear-wheel-drive large car, the Stinger should be able to dominate this space. The test will be how many buyers do in fact want a car this size etc...
Very much proven, i love it
Good to hear Alexander Popov - enjoy it .
stinger sounds like my hoover vac, good review though
Lol - a little bit. Glad you dug the video though :D
Actually it sounds quite good from inside the car. MBRP exhaust will fix the outside sound.
Does it have DVR
Sorry Uday, DVR? What do you mean?
Digital Video Recorder
Work as blackbox, dashcam,
@@uday2510 Ah, not standard. But I'm sure you could fit something up aftermarket.
This days every brand using hard plastics inside and fake vents here and there. Also brands like Merc os Audi or BMW using fake exhaust and other things. I'm tired of this hard clicks and scratching everything around by car reviewers Its like "lets find something. No matter how good it is, just lets find something because it is not perfect" Lame. Why just not sit inside, start the engine, and enjoy how power is delivery, how electronics works, how comfy is this, how much car is in this car? I don't give a fuck about hard plastic down there. Every car I own has got it. I don't give a shit about plastic thing on rims. a lot of cars got it and even worse. Mode dial is too little??? Sooooo what? Go to BMW pay twice and go on a ride in 520xd and enjoy big dial mode button. My God....
Righto Peacemaker... It feels good to vent sometimes doesn't it mate?
All good. Sorry you didn't love the video bud. Hope you like some of my others.
Peace.
Hi Dave! I like the video overall, but I don't like some of the behavior and sentence, because in my opinion are not fair. Yea, it looks like a have to vent my mind also ;)
We cool Peacemaker. We cool.
Peacemaker I was thinking the same thing. All manufacturers do that, but for almost twice the price.
We share the same sentiment. Way to much nitpicking here.
2:50 sometimes my farts sound like that
Eh... ooo k. Pretty sure I was just talking at that point, but sure mate haha.
This is andrea Aguirre car for USA
Righto...
good review, but obviously you dont like plastic.
Haha, you reckon? Cheers.
Lol, cramp. Hardly.
Nit picking minor issues is what you like doing best. If you owned or could afford to own a stinger you wouldn’t be nitpicking everything. Only 50% of what you say is close to the truth. The rest is fluff and bullshit.
Trust me I own two stingers.
Owning two Stingers I'm sure you have no bias at all ;-)
Also, driving is what I like doing best. Making videos that might help some people is just a hobby... not nit picking.
All the best.
Kia needs to stay in their lane and stick to what they are good at which is cheaply made inexpensive college student cars. This will never be an RS7 or CLS AMG or RS400 its garbage. KIA performance is like prius luxury it just doesnt make sense.. Just know that if you own one youre being laughed at by real car enthusiasts and good luck finding a place to park at the car meets LMAO you can put icing on a turd and its still a piece of sh*t.
Dude sounds like he wants to murder anyone that has anything to do with Kia LAMO. What's with all that disdain?
@@soulstance nah, to each their own.. just dont buy into the hype.. some manufacturers were meant to stay at the bottom of the food chain thats all.
Same thing was said about the Japanese manufacturers when they started their luxury brands and look how badly that worked for them- total disaster, eh? Oh, wait...
And you drive a Skoda fabia , right? :)
more like a vw golf ;)
