The Landing Gear WON'T GO UP! Formation Flight FAIL in a BEECHCRAFT BONANZA

- Join me on this contract flight to Ft. Lauderdale and learn about my very embarrassing experience at the 2021 Bonanzas to Oshkosh Florida formation clinic. The landing gear on N117EC twice wouldn't retract while I was flying lead. It's common for a formation pilot to be slapped with a (generally deserving) nickname, but in this instance the airplane got the nickname 'Cialis'. The plane "just can't get it up," one of the guys declared. Note: the retraction issue lasted only as long as the formation clinic; the gear is working fine now. Go figure.

Troy, does the A36 have the auto gear system? I had this same problem and realized the switch had been turned on without me knowing. My switch is just to the left of the landing gear knob just out of easy view.

Did you troubleshoot/investigate whoy the landing gear didn't retract? Will the plane go on stands for testing or wait until annual?

Interestingly, we think it was a loose landing light letting air through the cowl and putting a load on the manifold pressure switch. At least that’s the theory. Also, the plane was recently painted, so one or both of the squat switches may have been sticking.
18.000 Bonanzas have been manufactured. 2022 will mark the 75th. anniversary since delivery of the first Bonanza...

How do you like the DC ProX2 vs the A20s?
I much prefer the ProX! The Bose A20 has too much clamping force.
Two thoughts:
1) make all the jokes you want. You got my respect when you took off from a grass strip with a cup of coffee between your legs. 😳
2) Why did ya cut the video right at the end. It was just about to get juicy between the jet that had been waiting and the Beech in front that didn’t want to leave! 😂
Ha! I think the situation was sufficiently resolved by the time I turned onto Foxtrot! I’m inclined to think that guy was embellishing when he said he’d been waiting to taxi for *three hours*.
