@@dominickangelo4319 Agreed. Late hit, good call, but the review came back with the correct impression: wasn't malicious or worthy of a major/suspension.
Pavelski looks done for this playoffs, hope he gets better soon. Really hard to define if it was dirty or not. I could be missing important context from the video but seeing Dumba smiling in the box is going to add the hate he will endure further into the series.
As a Wild fan, I will admit I've never been a big Matt Dumba fan. But that hit, it was clean. Despite being late, it's still shoulder on shoulder. Paveliski's head unfortunately hits the ice once again and he gets injured. I feel bad for Pavelski, but it's a clean hit. It just looked dirty because of how extremely fast-paced the game of hockey really is. Hopefully, Pavelski can heal quickly and return maybe later on in the series. You never want to see a good player get hurt due to hitting his head on the ice a 2nd time. Hopefully you'll heal, Joe.
It's honestly pretty entertaining the amount of Stars fans losing their mind on Twitter trying to call this hit dirty and malicious, and then it gets even better when somebody posts a picture of Suter cross-checking Kaprizov in the ribs multiple times. I actually saw some Stars fans trying to justify Suter as playing hard to wear down his opponent while screaming at Dumba for this hit. Playoff hockey and clueless fan bases is back. I'm just gonna sit back and watch it all unfold then I'll see y'all on Lotto Day
Let's get a few things very clear: 1) The near referee turns away and doesn't see the hit. So the initial 5-minute major call must (we hope) come from the far official. 2) This was a shoulder to shoulder hit. As a 25+ year referee, there's no justification here for a major penalty. The far official either saw it wrong, or the near referee guessed wrong. Good thing there is review. 3) The argument "but it was late" is a weird one. The NHL rulebook defines "interference" as "The last player to touch the puck, other than the goalkeeper, shall be considered the player in possession. The player deemed in possession of the puck may be checked legally, provided the check is rendered immediately following his loss of possession." The statements: "the last player to touch the puck...considered the player in possession", "may be checked legally", and "immediately following his loss of possession" are CONTRADICTORY statements. According to the rule, Pavelski is considered "the player in possession" because he is last to touch the puck. And just because it's not on his stick, by this rule wording, doesn't mean he has "lost possession". According to wording of this rule, "loss of possession" would occur when another player (other than a goalie) touches the puck. But that's not how the rules are applied.. Something's off in the rules.
That was a dangerous for both of them in my opinion, dumbas lucky he didnt hurt his back going into the boards. Definitely looked like Pavelski hit his head in the ice, clean hit, just dangerous area

Game 1 is the toughest one to win for any team. Like it or not it’s not going to be good to carry it over to the next game. The coaches know what they’re doing and don’t want to lose any of their players to injury or stupidity just to get back at the other team. The game is fast paced and rough/violent at times but it’s a chance every player takes stepping onto the ice. I’m hoping that the guys play for the cup mentality and not revenge but time will tell.

Can someone explain to me how a major penalty should be decided. I always thought if you Injute someone on a penalty like that, a major is automatic. So if there's an injury, it should either be no penalty (no infraction committed), or a major ( infraction+ injury). How can someone be injured and assessed a 2 minute penalty?

0:02 Karma finaly bites joe Pavelski in the ass
Hit only looks late on the slow mo replay and was a clean hit
Should be anticipating a hit especially in the playoffs
Should be anticipating it from youth hockey and beyond, lol. Keeping one's head up is hounded on just as much as any other aspect in hockey. Even the casual beer league guys get on each other about it.
Clean hit. Hope Pavelski is ok especially since he’s had a hit like this before. Dumba is going to have a target on his head after this.
- A Wild fan
How can that be clean? Late. High. 3rd man in.
Clean your glasses, that`s needed.
@@saschaganser9671 wasn’t late and he hit his shoulders how was that high 💀clean hit
I swear, homers will say anything is clean unless it’s their player.
I agree. His skates were on the ice when contact occurred. You're allowed a certain amount of time after someone releases the puck before you hit them. It was extremely clean. I'm not into the mindless violence or attempts to injure. I think it was a mistake to give a penalty. Are the fans officiating?
@@saschaganser9671 as a ref I do not always agree with the showy calls the NHL has a habit of making, however, this call there is no head contact and while yes one could argue it was late while watching it back in slow motion, in reality at full speed this hit is one Pavelski should expect to come. I agree with the call here
Keep your head up next time, Joe. That was a righteous hit and Dumba should not have been penalized at all. Man's game.
Late hit, correct call was made.
@@dominickangelo4319 Agreed. Late hit, good call, but the review came back with the correct impression: wasn't malicious or worthy of a major/suspension.
@@dominickangelo4319 it wasn’t late
Pavelski looks done for this playoffs, hope he gets better soon. Really hard to define if it was dirty or not. I could be missing important context from the video but seeing Dumba smiling in the box is going to add the hate he will endure further into the series.
Yeah you missed Dumba cramming Hartman's stick into Joe's cheek.
Nice clean hit👍💪💥
Must watch series now, if it wasnt already
Привет из Одессы. Украина.❤
I'm just gonna sit back and watch it all unfold then I'll see y'all on Lotto Day
I have been waiting for this type of MN wild hockey forever!!!
Exactly. We've never been built for a rough series like this. We were always finesse and got wiped by guys like Seabrook
Let's get a few things very clear:
1) The near referee turns away and doesn't see the hit.
The NHL rulebook defines "interference" as "The last player to touch the puck, other than the
goalkeeper, shall be considered the player in possession. The player deemed in possession of the puck may be checked legally, provided the check is rendered immediately following his loss of possession."
The statements: "the last player to touch the puck...considered the player in possession", "may be checked legally", and "immediately following his loss of possession" are CONTRADICTORY statements.
Amazing match the 🎉❤
The ref was basically holding Dumba so that Domi could get his shots in.
Dumi is an idiot. Beautiful clean hit.
Domi gained huge respect from me this play
@@bortsampson You mean DUMMY!
Since Dumba didn’t end up with even a scratch, I’d say it was a wasted effort.

That was a dangerous for both of them in my opinion, dumbas lucky he didnt hurt his back going into the boards. Definitely looked like Pavelski hit his head in the ice, clean hit, just dangerous area
Praying for Joe and his entire family.
whos here after dumba is now on the stars lmao
thank goodness they didn't call that a penalty. Just released the puck, shoulder on shoulder. Keep your head up Joe
Charging?
Interference 2 mins? Just let the clip run a few more seconds
You're joking right? Heads up not anticipating to be hit since the puck is gone for nearly a minute then gets hit with an upward motion right skate not even in the ice at the point of impact

Чистый силовой приём
Wow that's great performance of both teams
It was definitely the stick snapping up and smacking Pavelski on the side of the head. Guy was out cold before he hit the ice.
I hope your joking 😅
@@brar124100 not at all. the hit was shoulder to shoulder.
@@lxreedyxl4605 much more likely his head bouncing off the ice like a basketball did it. Yeah you will notice the stick but it’s a composite stick and the primary force of the hit was through the shoulder not him swinging his stick at his head
That's what I've been saying. The stick of Hartman riding up did most the damage and his head hitting the ice did the rest

Amazing review💯💯💯
That’s a CLEAN hit, seriously what a joke, so now we fight after every hard clean hit. BTW Sutter was cross checking Kaprisov back to freaking Moscow, what about that?
shoulder to shoulder but late. not sure on this one at all. all i knew is when i was making my picks in my pool ---- this was a tough call to make on who would win this series. my thoughts were that wild will go for a punishing series but i took stars cuz of benn
The hit was clean and not late. Refs reviewed the play and no penalty for the hit.
Clean hit, unfortunately looks like after the shoulder on shoulder, their heads hit each other, and joe took the worst of it. Hope he’s ok and comes back soon.
You can say it’s late when you’re seeing slow mo, but not really late at all.
But the puck was gone. Not a late hit?

Pavelski is engaged with Hartman, and both Dumba's skates are off the ice (left barely off). The contact of the hit is shoulder to shoulder.
As a sharks fan, I still love Pavelski and hate to see this happen to him. However, it was a perfectly fine hit. The penalties that I thought should be assessed were, aside from Dumba getting two for roughing. Best wishes to Pavs. 🤞

Welcome to the new age
0:59 You can see Pavelski's white stick near his neck. I bet his own stick made contact with his jaw and knocked him out. His head hitting the ice after the fall probably did additional damage. Hope he's okay, that was scary watching him being helped off the ice.

Fact: if Pavelski's head doesn't bounce off the ice, the hit would have been forgotten 5 minutes later and no one would be having these conversations.
No. Pavelski's head bounce on the ice BECAUSE of the dirty hit. You can't separate the two. Basic physic and concussion principles.
@@Okiyah But it wasnt a dirty hit. Dumba finished his hit shoulder to shoulder. I hate seeing players get hurt, I really hope he is ok. But it wasnt dirty, just an unfortunate outcome.

Any hit to the head that shortens the career is dirty. It is shoulder to chin, with an upward movement. That's why he fall on his head. His head was up, the puck was gone, he couldn't protect himself because Dumba deviously arrives from behind the player that's already on Pavelski (blind spot). That's dirty.
Excellent thanks 👍
Don't touch Kaprizov. Good job Dumba 👏
That's a playoff hockey hit. Clean, shoulder to shoulder and Vicious. He hit his head on the ice that's the scary part.

Never want to see a player injured like that but at the same time that's a legal check shoulder to shoulder and it was not late either as pavelski just got rid of the puck
Good call by the ref
Let’s go wild baby !!!
Finishing a check, shoulder to shoulder nothing wrong with this, gotta keep your head up.
Haven’t we run the hockey in the south experiment long enough to know it’s not working? The fans down there still don’t understand the game. They still believe basketball is a physical sport. Let’s start moving these teams back up north. I would even be good with Wisconsin getting a team.
Domi a real one! 👏👏
This is why as an Avs fan I want no part of the Mild, a dirty player and a dirty franchise. Stars fans, we'll fight later. Right now I'm on your side in this one.

Hartman's stick gets caught in the mix and fires into pavelskis face. That's the reason he was knocked out before hitting the ice. The more I watch this, the it seems to be a clean hit. Just unfortunate for pavelski.
That wasn't even a penalty, bad call. Unfortunate for Pavelski to hit his head on the ice but the hit was clean IMO.
I thought it was a tad late. Hit him in the Shoulder first and then caught the head so the initial spot was the shoulder. Funny it looked like he launched and left his feet at first look but he didn't. Regardless, Pavelski has to know, head up don't watch the puck. How long as he been in the league? And Dave Jackson, if you are going to wait untilthe referees make the call just to agree with them, what is your use?

Agree 100%. Perfectly clean hit. Even the timing (after he got rid of the puck) is fine as per the rules. The ONLY issue is that they need to clean that up by changing the rule by not allowing that hit if the defenseman sees that the player no longer has the puck.
