If you've been watching hockey for 50 years you'd know hits like that happened literally all the time by clean players from the 80's through the early 00's until the NHL started getting soft. What's the difference between this hit and the Scheifele hit on Jake Evans in the 2021 playoffs. The Charging rule used to include the statement, "if the offender takes 2 strides into the opponent and then the hit", that was considered Charging. On this hit Tkachuk takes 4 strides and then lowers the boom, no elbow, no stick just body mass into Eichel. In the Scheifele hit he is gliding into Evans and then body mass into Evans, Scheifele got 4 games suspension. The charging rule (#42) states: "Charging shall mean the actions of a player who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner." I believe the ref would have been in a position to call a charge here, but Tkachuk does himself in by the post play hooliganism, but I believe he was already on his way to the sin bin with the hit.
