Basically all weapon types had to be used on either a unit or structure, not just 'free floating' so to say. So they whipped up a quick dummy unit that would have such weapons given to it but the unit wouldn't be normally usable.
@@locknkey5309 that beam is the one they are talking about, the XCOMET rhino tank's weapon is the one that scatters off the main beam from a Prism Tank. These "Shrapnel" weapons dont get loaded by default by the game unless a unit or structure uses them, so the "WEEDGUY Hack" is necessary in order to make it work, which is essentially what XCOMET is. It also loads the "TeslaFragment" weapon, which is used for elite Tesla weapons on the Tesla Trooper and Tesla Tank.

My hypothesis is that the screen tinting effect is the same as the yellow Ion Storm tint in Tib Sun and since Red Alert 2 seems to have a different color pallet, it was probably green until being changed to a dark blue. The country stat bonuses are also interesting as it seems like WestWood wanted to carry over similar stat bonuses that countries in the first Red Alert had (I.E. Russia's faster production).
There is a mod for RA2 called the aftermath (aftermath being a reference to RA1's expansion) that restores such content and gives every faction a neat little bonus. And yes Russia does get discounts on all production to name an example. It boosts the skirmish AI significantly too so it's more challenging to play against 7 AI.
I have the same feeling about this, instant flashbacks to TS. This looks like an thematical switch, because the scenery is an entirely different world.
That Korean howitzer could have been a great addition to the game. Not too much damage but awesome range. Outgunning defenses forcing the player to put more emphasis on mobile defense instead of turtleimg
In addition, I think the Howitzer when Westwood, later EA Los Angeles, was developing YR that time meant that the unit should have went to the Yuri faction along with the Hind Transport helicopter and Coast Guard boat as well. Especially given why Yuri's army only has few units after YR was finished meant it the game was ironicaly unfinished and the expansion pack in was not integrated into the base RA2 game along with a continuous patch (1.007/1.008). That was why Mental Omega was there, but however the Yuri faction like in YR consists that of unconventional units like the Magnetron, Master Mind, Floating Disc etc. The Howitzer tank, Hind copter and Coast Guard ship were not only those units that should've been handed to Yuri's forces, but also three of them would've change their appearances like when the LTNK (Light Tank) switched to the Lasher tank that is Yuri's main tank. (The Yuri amphibious transport uses the skin of the Allied landing craft but due to Westwood/EA lacking time to improve YR meant they instead had the Hover Transport modelled after the Allied amphibous transport with a different skintone but same shell.)
That black eagle tho. It's funny that some mods do restore some beta content. Some restored units, the reduced cost, unit vet and even their faction names.
- The mirage tank's tank disguise only applies to the body and not the turret. And this is also the reason why mirage tank's don't have turrets. - The Soviet Tank with an id UTNK, seems to be "Uranium Tank". It's tank with a Desolator's rad beam perhaps. Or just an old unit ID from TS that they decided to make it a dummy unit.
I wonder how far they intended to take this idea before they switched to just unique units because some of these seem really under developed compared to others.
No deezire is different, what im telling is way back 18yrs ago again where modding is not a thing yet it also came with units such as patriot tank(soviet with 4 limit) october sub which can 1 hit a whole base, giant ants with ifv can fire death laser. And so on.
I really like the settings of reducing training time or training cost, also the settings that are different for different countries made them so special. I wonder why they chose to not implement such settings in the final version
Probably due to time constrants from EA being westwood's publisher. They likely didn't have the time to get them to work properly, or to flesh out all the countries equally and be reasonably balanced.

I remember many years ago I would see screenshots of Rhino Tanks in Allied colours/textures and Grizzlys that had the same grey as the Rhino. Was that a mod or did the devs actually consider at one point to have faction-based textures for vehicles? Like how in Red Alert 1 if you captured a Soviet War Factory, your Heavy Tanks would sound like Allied vehicles when you selected them... So that would be an extension of such a thing... would have been a neat touch if it could be pulled off. Then there was that beta Light Tank unit that later on turned into the Lasher when YR came around using the same name as it.
well, you can easily simulate this in a mod by recoloring the voxel, making a new allied unit with allied voice that uses it; and make each unit faction-restricted. Would be a bit of work tho, and not as easy for infantry.
That “Prism Rhino Tank” as I call it, when it promotes to Elite, its weapon will turn to a regular Rhino Tank. Which to me, it’s not a benefit when it comes to destroying buildings.
The Hind being able to airlift vehicle like the Orca Caryall is most likely the basis of the Twinblade's ability to airlift vehicles, right?... Would've been really scary to see Rhinos or Apocalypse Tanks being airlifted onto an enemy base...
The mirage tank deploy might have been something like the mirage tank in red alert 3 now has. The ability to cloak nearby units, could explain why it goes immobile? Then again just a gues.

But that was too cumbersome so the deploy was removed altogether. 5:52 The RA2 incarnation of the Howitzer was a disgrace to the C&Cs that came before. Earlier C&Cs had powerful artillery that had sick splash, exploded clumps of infantry to bits and levelled structures. More akin to the Grand Cannon in power. This mediocre RA2 version got carried forward from the Howitzer to the Siege Chopper.

That must be the beta. I had a retail box that had box art containing that kimd of content as well as an elongated weird allied pillbox. I was hyped as a kid because I thought it was a different version but I assume the box was just printed before the final game. RA2 Alpha/Beta would be such a treat!
Well, seems some ideas used in Generals. Then Hind in Red Alert was Soviet's heli. Maybe can try some Red Alert Remastered video I guess? So far I know is Allies GPS can cause damage, you can capture opponent's tank when war factory's door open before tank leave war factory, same to heli. Then I'm upload Red Alert Remastered and C&C Remastered skirmish with mods everyday.

Hi there, you are right - there is indeed an unused light tank which was supposed to be usable by Iraq which has the handle "LTNK" - which was later reused in YR as the handle for Yuri's "Lasher Tank". One of several details which slipped trough because I was never able to finish my supportive work the way it was intended for several reasons.
Now that you're at it, why not a video for scrapped content? At least for some of the more developed things Example: -General- -Turtle mode: A defensive action taken by buildings to better protect them from harm. It even made it into a cut scene where a Chronosphere shut down to brace for impact with a missile. Tesla reactors would move a shutter over the core to protect it. Soviet barracs would lower into the ground and Construction yards would lower external features into the building (radars, domes, ventilation) -Allied- -Artillery-tank: a vehicle which either was an early artillery piece akin to RA1 or an anti-infantry tank. it can still be found in the game data (this one is different from the Howitzer) -Soviets- -Light tank, it was cut as it conflicted with the soviet doctrin it is still somewhere in the code at least according to wiki. Mental Omega brings much of this content to live, so while the official wiki writes it off as mere drawings and guesses, there is at least an option out there to gain footage.

Weird. Why a tank cannon fires laser? Why infantry can parachute from helicopters? There doesn't seem to be a clear design to make the game more fun for me. Just some random changes
The rhino is a placeholder... i.e. not the real vehicle. People... can parachute from helicopters in real life or repel from ropes. For $250, they have lessons you can take which include the helicopter ride, the jump, and a jump partner/instructor.

As far as I can remember, this is in fact playable and the name of the mod is Red Alert 2 desire or desiree, this was before modding is a thing.

5:52 The RA2 incarnation of the Howitzer was a disgrace to the C&Cs that came before. Earlier C&Cs had powerful artillery that had sick splash, exploded clumps of infantry to bits and levelled structures. More akin to the Grand Cannon in power. This mediocre RA2 version got carried forward from the Howitzer to the Siege Chopper.

There was a version of Red Alert 2 that allowed you to build different kinds of walls, like sandbag and chain link. Russia was also able to build a psychic beacon. Russia also had a airfield and a M.A.D tank. Which version of mod of Red Alert 2 was that? I’ve been looking for it forever.
That must be the beta. I had a retail box that had box art containing that kimd of content as well as an elongated weird allied pillbox. I was hyped as a kid because I thought it was a different version but I assume the box was just printed before the final game.

You forget the light tank in RA2,it was supposed belongs to Iraq but it been it change to Laser tank in YR.

Hi there, you are right - there is indeed an unused light tank which was supposed to be usable by Iraq which has the handle "LTNK" - which was later reused in YR as the handle for Yuri's "Lasher Tank". One of several details which slipped trough because I was never able to finish my supportive work the way it was intended for several reasons.
Maybe the deploy button on the mirage tank would keep the disguise solid but remove the attack ability.
Now that you're at it, why not a video for scrapped content?
At least for some of the more developed things

-Turtle mode: A defensive action taken by buildings to better protect them from harm. It even made it into a cut scene where a Chronosphere shut down to brace for impact with a missile.
Tesla reactors would move a shutter over the core to protect it. Soviet barracs would lower into the ground and Construction yards would lower external features into the building (radars, domes, ventilation)
-Allied-
-Artillery-tank: a vehicle which either was an early artillery piece akin to RA1 or an anti-infantry tank. it can still be found in the game data
(this one is different from the Howitzer)
-Soviets-
-Light tank, it was cut as it conflicted with the soviet doctrin it is still somewhere in the code at least according to wiki.
Mental Omega brings much of this content to live, so while the official wiki writes it off as mere drawings and guesses, there is at least an option out there to gain footage.
The howitzer was used a lot in modded maps.
Because it remained game files completely unlike other stuff. However it's unit stats needs tweak to be competitive as it's a bit too weak.
The fact that Germany can train veteran grizzly tank actually would make them viable faction

Originally players could change the Mirage Tanks' disguise until it moves.
Probably some reload-issue with that Black Eagle.

Howitzer was a cool unit when I play mods
Weird. Why a tank cannon fires laser? Why infantry can parachute from helicopters? There doesn't seem to be a clear design to make the game more fun for me. Just some random changes
The rhino is a placeholder... i.e. not the real vehicle.
People... can parachute from helicopters in real life or repel from ropes.
For $250, they have lessons you can take which include the helicopter ride, the jump, and a jump partner/instructor.
Some ideas like the factions were expanded in MO

They do have veteran Rhino! They also have a 20% bonus to all incomes.
