    We just found a gently used (2,220 miles) 2023 Tesla Model X Plaid in Ultra Red with white interior and the yoke. What an amazing car! Wow!! Really good video. Enjoy this amazing ride!

    I really appreciate the level of detail you have provided on each of your topic areas. I have noticed a bit of wheel vibration in my MXP and also received the car without the wheel aero pieces. At some point, I should take it in for balancing to see how that affects the vibration.

    • @toothfixer
      @toothfixer  Рік тому +1

      I’ve had the car for 3 weeks now and noticed something strange. When I first drive off I feel vibration like a turbine spinning up and it doesn’t correlate with the speed I’m traveling. I suspect it’s some type of cooling fan or something that’s adding to the vibration. After that initial event there’s no vibration. Also read a post the other day about the X having axle shaft issues causing vibration. They said a lot of axle shafts had to be replaced on early models and current models you either have the vibration or you don’t but the axle shaft can go bad for no reason.

    I was going to get a X Plaid but saved the extra cash to get a custom Focal audio system. An amazing audio system with great acceleration felt more worth it to me than an okay audio system with insane acceleration.

    Totally agree with you about the matte plastic wheel-well surrounds. I went with the dark gray for my MX Plaid precisely for that reason. I also love black cars but went with the gray simply because I live in a frequently-dusty area and wouldn't be able to keep up with the cleaning of black.

    how many times did you have to change the tires in completing 50k miles, since people have complained this about tesla being heavy and wearing out the tire

    • @toothfixer
      @toothfixer  Рік тому +1

      Problem is the fixed negative camber on the rear wheels. Exacerbated with the car automatically dropping to “very low” ride height once you reach 70mph. According to Tesla car is aligned at med ride height so the car drops 2 steps which increases negative camber at each step. Tires have plenty of tread but the inner sidewall gets completely worn to the cords at around 10k miles and once at 8k miles. I went through 4 sets of rear tires and it got so bad I bought a new set of wheels and tires to store in my garage since it took so long to get an appt or sometimes the tires were unavailable. I was stranded on the side of the road twice and had to get the car towed in both times because the inner sidewalls started leaking. If you get adjustable camber arms from N2itive for approx $1200 plus install it will fix the problem

    Great summary / update on the X. Looking at buying same spec (as you mentioned this color combo is the only one that looks good to me on here). Debating on this vs. a Y performance for nearly half the price, but do like certain amenities such as air ride, cooled seats, better stereo and obviously a bit quicker. Those doors (if/when they work) might be beneficial as well with two young children for me. I test drove the '23 Long Range, and even though it was adequate power, did not feel all that quick to me. I think the Plaid will fix that right up.
    Many in their reviews mention I'll sacrifice reliability going this route (model X vs. Y). Have you had any issues to address the first few weeks? I typically keep cars 6-12 months, and want to try out my first electric car.
    This is an enticing option now for me given that all loaded with the white interior + 22s they come in

    • @toothfixer
      @toothfixer  Рік тому

      I had a dual motor and performance model 3. You can’t go wrong with a Y but the X is incredible. The main thing of course, 1020hp is no joke! From a dig, from a roll it has so much power. The advantage of the S and X is air suspension vs steel springs. Not only do you get variable ride height but it’s more comfortable in general. After driving 50k miles in the revised S I’m surprised how much better the X rides. It’s supremely smooth and controlled, huge difference from the S. If you can comfortably swing it go for the X, especially with the recent price drops. I paid $18k more for mine but I have zero regrets.

    • @toothfixer
      @toothfixer  Рік тому +1

      Oh forgot to mention. I test drove 2 LR model Xs also and felt there was something restricting them. My model S was a long range and it was snappy. I suspect the X was in dealer valet mode because it had a very slow launch from a stop like it wasn’t in insane mode and it was speed limited to 85mph. If you get a chance ask the tesla location to test drive with you but take it out of valet mode.

    • @thedesertroad
      @thedesertroad Рік тому +1

      @@toothfixer Ahh that must be it. I also had a VERY slow launch on mine that I took out from their center, and limited to 85mph. It was decent from a roll but even the Y performance I had over the weekend felt much quicker to me. Thanks for the feedback, looking into all options but leaning more X then Y based on all the extras. Will stay tuned for your updates on the car!

    Any thoughts on why you chose the 22" vs. the 20" for the wheel size?

    • @toothfixer
      @toothfixer  Рік тому +1

      Originally thought 20” for sure due to tire wear issues I had with low profile 21” higher performance Michelin Pilot Sports on the model S. Drove both 20s and the 22s. The 22s were as smooth as the 20. Kicker was…. The 22” continentals have a UTQG tire wear rating of 500 vs 300 for the Michelins I had so they should last longer as long as camber issue is fixed. I planned to install N2itive adjustable rear camber links anyways so just went for it. Installed camber links last Fri. Car rides way better than S, camber wear issue fixed, and most importantly car looks better. On the downside, 22s more expensive and heavier so I lost some range. No regrets

    Thank you so much for the review. That is exactly what I am trying to do. Trade in 21' refreshed model S for Model X plaid. The battery MXP is my concern too , which you mentioned in the video. I live in the South and during this summer I have used lots of air-conditioner while driving my S. I usually lose more 50% of mileages from what initial range charged. For example, I tend to charge 200 more miles on my S from 75 miles. Actual mileages driven tends to less than 100 miles per 200 miles initial range. What is your experience? Do you think MXP is better than MS in terms of the actual mileages driven from the initial range charged after AC and other electricity consumed?

    • @toothfixer
      @toothfixer  Рік тому +1

      My refreshed Model S had very usable range. @100% SOC stated range was approx 335-338. @90% SOC stated range was approx 307 and that is with the heavier 21 wheels. I've only put 1100 miles on the X Plaid but IIRC @100% SOC stated range was 305 and at 90% SOC stated range was 275-280. It's only a 30 mile difference but I am feeling it already. There's a touch more stress on long trips to stay charged. I normally do Las Vegas trips with 1 charge but I did 2 charge stops last weekend to be on the safe side. The A/C works harder in this car because the windshield extends to the falcon doors, it gets very hot in the car. In my S 71 degrees was a comfortable setting. In this X I have to set to 69 degrees. You're correct, these cars do not get anywhere near range stated on the screen. Like you, I make sure I have at least 2.0-2.5x range on screen for the miles I actually need to drive. I'm in CA so we have a lot of hills which tends to mess with stated range values.

    The play is to get cheaper wheels and get after market 22s. Tesla wheels are CRAZY heavy and you’re paying almost 6k. And def PPF. that blk paint is the worst quality paint Tesla offers.

    Thank you for making a video about this car. I think you totally missed the mark on the drive and the look of this car. You kept saying minivan, I don’t know where you get the “minivan” from. I just test drove one a few days ago, and this vehicle is far more superior in looks and drive to any other sport SUV, including bmws which I have driven most of my life, and also Mercedes. As much as I want to enjoy your video, I have to say that I couldn’t keep watching it. But good luck with your purchase and I hope you enjoy every part of it.

    • @toothfixer
      @toothfixer  Рік тому

      The only reason I keep going back to minivan is the view out the front. I had a Toyota sienna 15 years ago and I couldn’t see any part of the hood looking out. This car is exactly the same. I see zero hood looking out. My S had a completely different view. I’ve had many SUVs and you definitely see hood looking out. That’s the one and only reason. Agree 100% this looks better than most SUVs and minivans but looking out a large window with no hood gives me that feel. I drove my wife’s GLE580 tonight and can honestly say I love driving the X much much more. I’m still reeling from the $18k price drop though!
