EXACTLY! I ran across this video about six years ago, have since made it more than a dozen times, and not only is it the best chicken curry I've ever had, better than my local Indian restaurants, it's so incredibly easy.
THANK YOU, Chef! We moved to the country in the northern US some years ago. We literally traveled 200 miles for curry that was "so-so" at best. I've tried and failed many times over the years to make a decent curry. Now, tonight, I sit here very happily too full to move because I ate so much curry. Thank you, thank you.
my food always has little less salt, but i am a good judge in adding correct amount of salt in one go and camera picks white color against black background and over exposes while adding . less salt is always better for good health
Vahchef - VahRehVah this is probably the best curry lesson on UA-cam. I watch this & grandpa’s kitchen channel. I’m made a perfect curry my friends & family loved.
I'm Mexican American, and hardly ever eat Indian food I used this recipe last week. My wife and kids loved it and want me to make it again, looking forward to using more of your recipes thank you brother.
My family is Ecuadorian and they don't like spicy food or Indian food. But I love both so much... the aromas and flavors are so comforting and delicious!
I absolutely love this recipe and have shared it with a lot of my friends. Quick and easy and sooo delicious! I could never get the depth of flavor I wanted when trying to make curries, turns out I wasn't cooking the onions long enough. Thank you so much!!
I made this restaurant style last night - excellent. I had some heavy cream leftover so I used that instead of creme freche or something like that. My wife really loved it. I used as much oil as you did in the video - it was more like 4 tablespoons. I'm going to try the other two versions this week - I love green chilis!
I am 54 year old man. I could not even make dal ten years ago. I recently started cooking after watching your videos because my wife said "cook it yourself if you want to eat it". I tried this recipe - it was amazing! It is the first time my family tasted this - my wife and kids LOVED it, especially the 3rd version with coconut milk! We dont get curry leaves here :( so I made it without it, but with all the other ingredients. Me, my wife and my kids say a Big Thank You to Vahchef :) :)

Started watching this recipe at work today then went to your curry powder recipe. Googled the closest Indian market and bought all the goodies to make it fresh. Just served this dish to 6 people making the two, creamy restaurant style and spicy fried. Oh my lord it was a hit. I also love your passion in the kitchen. I didn't sub to the channel then and just found your channel again. I just subbed to the channel and will have to follow up on all your recipes you have here now. Chef Vah, this was the most straightforward educational video on chicken curry I have seen. I've learnt more in 11 minutes than 5 years of cooking. You showed me the basics and how to customize it. I can't thank you enough. Much love

I've made this curry so many times since i first watched this video. It never ceases to impress guests and give me a smile to make. Thank you so much, sir, for the recipe, techniques and fun.
Hey Daniel since you've made it soo many times thought i'd ask you this question. In the ingredients for tomato it says 4N. What is 4N? Should i use 1 whole tomato? i'm a beginner cook and have no idea what that means. thank you
Jason, I never quite figured it out myself. And I'm honestly a simple at home chef myself. I just enjoy cooking is all. I typically alter or adjust the size of the meal using how much tomato and onion I put in. I use 1 whole tomato for a simple 2-3 person meal. 2 for 4-6 people. Adjust the ingredients to taste for the larger meal. How much chicken too of course. You can also adjust up for more sauce in your meal, which some folks prefer. The tomato is one of the easier ingredient to play with to change the meal size without altering the flavor a lot.
@@danielw7126 this will help a lot. really appreciate the reply. i bought my ingredients today so i'll make it tomorrow. i just bought one tomato and one onion so i'll see how that goes. wish me good luck. hahaha! i've watch this video like 8 times. My humble share here chef. I made this several times before and I took some of the gravy and added it to tinned chickpeas in a frying pan. Added dried chilies, mustard seeds, curry leaves, and balanced the seasoning. The result was absolutely wonderful! Thank you chef for the basic recipe! Without it I wouldn't have been able to explore.
Amazing work mate. Made some excellent chicken curry. Many thanks! I'm proud of myself. :D To all beginner cooks out there who're worried - just follow his instructions step by step and it will come out perfect whether it's your first time cooking or not.
I'm making this again tonight. For my family. I swear it's probably the 400th time I've made it since I've watched this video. I always make it this way now. Thank you chef.
I tried this way also, using curry powder off the spice rack in Store, chopped up green and yellow Onions, added a can of seasoned chopped Tomatoes and followed the steps. Looked, smelled and tasted great. Thank you for showing us a simple way with not some many ingredients.
I came across this video yesterday and tried it out last night itself. OMG - It's amazing! Multiple dishes using a single base, and one that's so simple even I didn't mess it up. GENIUS! Thank you so much Chef!! You rock!!

Just made it today with store-bought curry powder. It is delicious! Tried it straight up, and then with the coconut milk. Both are amazing. First time to make Indian style curry. Next I will make my own curry powder and make again with chicken, and do the fried style with fish or scallops maybe...?
When adding the tomato and the onion how much of them do you need? Is it a whole onion and whole tomato? I don't know what the "n" means in your recipe. Thank you!
@@jondickens8081 I have been making variations of this curry [Thanks Chef] for a few years now. I typically thin cut one medium to large size onion and two medium sized tomatoes or one large. I also meal prep quite a bit, so use three to four chicken breasts, 2 large onions and a can of tomatoes. comes out to about 5 lunches and a serving for three at home.
Today I made the basic and then got all three according to your recipe. Thank you so much. Everyone loved them. I especially like the one with three tablespoon of coconut milk as it is less spicy and makes for good sauce to dil white bread in. I also love the dried masala chicken.
Wow, you totally took the fear of cooking this dish. What fun. But, I forgot to add the garlic-ginger until I started to cover it. Will that make a difference in the dish?
Great video. I've been cooking 'Indian' food from scratch for about a year - chicken curry, bhuna, balti, jalfrezi, butter chicken etc, but this is the only video I've seen of how to get 3 different dishes from one basic curry.
Thank you so much for your tips and demonstration on how to convert a basic chicken curry to three different dishes. I will be making a curry for 70 people tomorrow and hopefully it’ll turn out to be as good as yours. 😊
You just get it.. The fact that you brought up how they make it in restaurants here blows my mind. This is my first video I have seen of you, but I am subscribing, and I will be watching ALL of your cooking videos. Thank you!
Many thanks. Usually I make a Thai curry or Chinese style curry. Your curry and variations look awesome. Just have to follow your example. Thanks Chef.
thank you so much for posting this! I used it as inspiration for a sauce which I don't dare call a proper curry, but which was pretty good anyway! One whole onion, two tbsp sharwood mild curry powder, about two tbsp ginger garlic paste, about a cup of pace mild picante sauce to substitute for the tomato, and a good two or three tbsp of sour cream. Made a surprisingly good topping for dime store ramen noodles!
This is the single most educational cooking video I have ever seen. I learned more in 11 minutes than a year of trying to make curries.

Peter Rasputin Thanks!!! If that's the case I'm gonna see if I can just buy the paste if not then I'll make do thanks again! :)
Leah K. you can purchase garlic ginger paste at your local indian market. I find that more affordable than purchasing the fresh ginger
Irishgirl41 ah I see thank you that's helpful :)
Leah K. That will ruin the taste, ginger powder makes it taste more like a chaat masala than a curry.
Mahesh bhat oh! It's a good thing I didn't use it then I just bought some ginger and grate it thanks for the info in case I decide to do it again :)
I am American learning how to cook Indian Food. Love Indian food, thank you so much. Your teaching and instruction are wonderful.
Dear Sir,
First of all thank you very much for all the videos. i was in nee zealand for 5 years. when i first went there i had no idea how to cook but i learnt everything from your videos. i must say i am very proud of my cooking.
so thanking you very much
:)
Thank you!
darlenne salinas, I have the same question. Hopefully this has already been answered somewhere in these comments.
Great video and recipe by the way.
From Algeria, WOW ur receipes are amazing, u'r sharing with us the real secret how to extract the smells , THANK YOU
I have done 5 recopies from you in the past week. My family is falling in love with Indian food

Today I made the basic and then got all three according to your recipe. Thank you so much. Everyone loved them. I especially like the one with three tablespoon of coconut milk as it is less spicy and makes for good sauce to dil white bread in. I also love the dried masala chicken.
This was amazing!!!! Thank you for teaching us such simple ways!! I'm obsessed with Indian cuisine ❤😁🇨🇦
Been looking for simplest Indian cooking especially curries. So glad l found you. Thank you very much
Me and my mom use to watch him all the time a “century” ago.
Haha the first time I watched him was in 2009 !
This is perfect! I just made the south Indian style and it is the best home curry I've ever made. 100% making this again , and again.
Thank you so much! This is my first time cooking. And the recipe helped a lot.
+aamina reeza Nice. Try other recipes too.

Wow, you totally took the fear of cooking this dish. What fun.
But, I forgot to add the garlic-ginger until I started to cover it. Will that make a difference in the dish?
while cooking indian dish, if you forget adding something then leave it. adding it at wrong time will mess it up.
Thank You! My curry chicken FINALLY came out right!
Great video. I've been cooking 'Indian' food from scratch for about a year - chicken curry, bhuna, balti, jalfrezi, butter chicken etc, but this is the only video I've seen of how to get 3 different dishes from one basic curry.
The one with coconut milk is the best of all because it has just a hint of sweetness that curry chicken needs😋
Dude keep up the great work.
The moment you started explaining the ‘why’ in each step, you got an instant sub.
i really need to stop watching these videos at night, lmao im so hungy now i cant sleep
Even I have the same problem😂😂
I followed your recipies for these curries last weekend....it was a huge success, thank you from the UK!
Thank you!
It should be mentioned that you don't want always golden-brown onions.
Sometimes you only want them to be translucent: sweet and soft!
Many thanks. Usually I make a Thai curry or Chinese style curry. Your curry and variations look awesome. Just have to follow your example. Thanks Chef.
thank you sooo much. i love your recipe. namaste & GOD bless you =)
thank you so much for posting this!
Wow I do the same with my Ramen noodles
Man, you're a legend! Great great videos, been watching since 2007!

Hey Chef thank you. I have used this technique several times and it just gets better each time.
I really enjoy your video! thanks from Argentina!
Thanks. Happy cooking
You are brilliant. Thank you, you taught me all I needed to know in one lesson. I shall be watching every time I make my curry.
