    I do not understand the comments, with critical opinions. Ilya Kayler is a perfect player, he does nothing else, just presens what Bach said: right voice at the right time. This video is a perfect interpretation of Bach' genius thinking. We can hear nothing else, just the brilliant idea of Bach, which we, simple players, or audience, admire, and we desire to perform with a violin in our hand, (perhaps "once upon a time"). The orchestra is excellent as well.

    It's quite uncommon that he played Bach's with mozart-like style with lots of short strokes & spicatto. But every player has their own interpretation & I still enjoy this. I like how gracefully he holds his bow & his body gesture, enjoying what he was playing :)

    Well yes, there were quite a few fluffs that would make this irritating to hear again and again as one's only recording, but I found it quite engaging in many other ways - especially the 3rd movement which had a really good tempo. Just like Grumiaux, which is my favourite. And a charming encore. So thank you for publishing this.

      I think the Grumiaux is wonderful, too. And I've lost count of the number of times I've enjoyed the Hilary Hahn video with Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. The Glenn Gould recording of the keyboard version (BWV 1054) is also pretty marvelous. On my short list of musical compositions I could get by with, if I could only have one.

      Hello everyone, @simonsimons i really think that the mistake is not very seldom. I mean, all of us make mistakes, don't we? Kaler was probably too immersed in his music and he accidentally made a mistake. I mean, anyone here never made a mistake before? Moreover, our world is not perfect and you also spelled seldom wrong. But great spotting of the mistake, i heard too😊!

    3rd mov't tempo is good, and need not be any faster. And that is why when 2nd mov't is nice and "adagio" [ as startraveller pointed out ] the contrast into 3rd mov't is plenty uplifting.

    The 2nd movement is an adagio not andante, if the violinist had not slowed down at the beginning the move would have gone pretty wrong. I really liked his performance.

  • @tomculver3837
    @tomculver3837 5 років тому +1

    2nd mov't start just a hair too fast, and still it plods along as ensemble is not playing together as "one". That is result of tempo not settling in, so all are not "on the same page" with the feel. So, conductor is very much needed here as this sounds like a rehearsal.

  • @tomculver3837

    At 16:28 there is a bit too much of pause there. Better to hit the "a tempo" a bit sooner. And after playing my Pablo Casals Marlboro Fest Orch recording a hundred times, I will say that the soloist here not getting enough needed support from other players on 3rd mov't. Even tho I was listening to the Brandenburgs, same can be applied here. Soloist was firing it up nicely but backing was on the lifeless side at 3rd mov't. And that final chord had a bit too much ritard going into it.
