In terms of the rear seat entertainment, I feel like Toyota didn't want to engineer something most customers probably wont use. Our family just uses tablets and cell phones. Works like a charm. I feel like rear seat infotainment is just a gimmick especially the way portable tablets work these days. Love the personality of your reviews Joe!
The beauty of not having a built in rear entertainment is that you won't have to pay for it. And in case you have tiny kids, adding rear screens for long road trips is easy. Plus, most built in screens are of inferior quality, cheap low res lcd with poor viewing angles. Yet you ll pay for them.

I absolutely love the look of the new sequoia but to me it has one fatal flaw. Why did they put in a sliding 3rd row and a fixed 2nd row and not the other way around like everyone else? I would rather steal 2nd row legroom for the 3rd row than sacrificing cargo room for it. The cargo area already looked small to begin with and basically nonexistent with the 3rd all the way back. Can anyone tell me if there're any tumble 2nd row seats out there that can also slide?
I had a previous gen Sequoia, and to me, Toyota missed the mark badly on this new one from the 2nd row back. No sliding middle seats, and the cargo load-height is terrible in the back. The 3rd row doesn’t fold flat due to the batteries for the hybrid system, which is the cause for the “knees in the chest” 3rd row. The previous gen was cavernous on the inside and didn’t have this problem. What a disappointment after all these years.
Also, the cargo area is horrible if you have large dogs. There is absolutely no room for them. Even if there was room, they took away the window in the back going down. WTF Toyota.
@@labmom68 right there with you. I’m a K9 handler with the need for kennel space in the back and I was really hoping for a fancy new Sequoia to accommodate, but this is horrendous. I’d rather get a 4Runner or a previous gen Sequoia.

Have to say after being a Tacoma owner for 9 years I went for the 22’ Tahoe Z71. I knew the sequoia was coming but it just doesn’t do it for me. Tahoe rides smooth as hell, has more room and a soon to be extinct V8. Also likely paid 10-12k less than the Capstone. I think Chevy/GMC still runs train on the full size suv market IMO

Tyty! Do you think my Dad is eligible to upgrade next year to the new Toyota Sequoia with the one he currently uses rn 2005 Toyota Sequoia limited edition with 146,000 miles?
If history has taught us anything, pricing never usually goes down after a new generation. We are looking at 80k+ for this beast at least. With less room in the 3rd row, Think I'll stick with the Hyundai Palisade. Granted... towing and power numbers on the Sequoia are off the charts, it's going to boil down too if you plan to tow, or not tow next to $$$ affordability. Great Review brother.
I'm not so sure. Plenty of people without adbsolutely rigid needs will cross-shop sedans, trucks, and off-roaders. If you don't need to tow, the Palisade is an insanely better value over this.
Two different worlds, the palisade goes against the Highlander, Buick Enclave and Explorer not this BEAST that's why the price is so obviously different.
Thanks for bringing this us Joe. Great Review and some features should have been on the LX600 like the panoramic roof, the 14in screens and maybe the size for America.
I’m digging this red exterior color. Interior has great features but but I’m not crazy about the white colored leather, especially if you’re carrying kids who have a propensity to get things dirty. I’ll be interested to see the prices compared to the Tahoe - Chevrolets have a reputation for being poorer values compared to other brands.
The sequoia for me is the king of the full size suv because it’s so perfectly balanced, it’s not as gaudy as the Yukon, not as bland as the tahoe, and the interior is just top notch it would be nice to see them side by side in a comparison review
New Expedition has more room and cargo, styling wise I'd pick the Sequoia but it's practicality for cargo and seat space with the 3rd row is a no go for so many families looking to upgrade to a bigger SUV.
From this review, the toyota still has a ways to go, Tahoe is much better looking bot inside and out and the Tahoe has better space and richness inside. Mileage for Tahoe is just as good.
Huge huge miss on the 2021+ Sienna. In all my years I have never seen a more deeply flawed vehicle for sale by any manufacturer. Total mess that needs to be recalled/completely redesigned.
Yep that is what stood out to me. Two huge problems with that. 1: knees right into the chest of any adult that has to sit in the third row. 2: Instead of just easily folding down the second and third row to get a huge flat cargo surface, you have to mess around with weird shelves and have wasted space. The Expedition solved this a long time ago, why would Toyota continue down this path?
I really like the look of this thing. There are definitely a few negatives, but most of the large SUVs are compromised in some way. It’ll be interesting to see how this stacks up in a comparison test. From a looks standpoint, the Sequoia might be the best right now. That’s a handsome truck.

Another great review Joe! I absolutely love this Sequoia! My wife and I have been debating the GMV Yukon or the Sequoia. I think this a very compelling vehicle but we will need to drive both first.
Overall great looking vehicle, but the rear cargo shelving system makes it a no go for me. The Tahoe is not perfect, but I would buy one of those over this because of the independent rear suspension and the ability to lay the seats completely flat.

Expedition max for me. I've been waiting 5 years for this. I have a 2014 sequoia platinum. And this thing is smaller. 2nd row wont work with 3 booster seats installed. To bad. Canceled my pre-order. Sad times now I will have a crappy ford. 😪
Great looking Sequoia! They could have easily hidden that rear wiper under the spoiler and that would have given a lot cleaner look and protected the wiper from the elements. One of my friends has Yukon XL and it's super luxurious but lately he keeps complaining about gas. LOL! I guess he should have waited couple more months and got this instead. LOL, bugs extra... LMAO
So Joe, this Capstone is pretty cool. I just think that I'd missing some big components that can make it go up against the big dogs in the segment like the Yukon Denali or Tahoe High Country. We need some electric dropping running boards, Alcantara on our headliner, and especially rear seat entertainment screens! But Toyota why would they reverse the seats and make the 3rd row slide and not the 2nd Joe? I really don't get it. 😕
Well over 440hp turbocharged sequoia. . .Well done Toyota. Toyota is definitely top dog above Honda above Nissan above Subaru. Toyota is flexing their bank account It looks excellent inside and outside this is going to sell no problem with the reputation of Toyota reliability this car will sell itself
Not understanding why all the white or cream interior trim. Why didn’t they go with black with a grey or charcoal grey trim. The owners gonna have to do a lot of cleaning of finger prints. Also the driver rest the left arm while driving on door panel. Will get dirty after a couple of months if not wearing a long sleeve shirt.
A Tundra front cap, previous generation Jeep Grand Cherokee body, previous generation Escalade body side moldings, hybrid version of the EcoBoost engine and Sienna second and third row seats. It wouldn't surpass GM SUVs at all. Even Toyota admitted that they should have followed the Tahoe instead of the Expedition on the first generation Sequoia.
Not sure I am liking the cargo area of this new Sequoia. It does not provide a flat load floor without installing that shelf, but then you ultimately lose the total potential vertical space. Quite a few models from other manufacturers have this all figured out. Unfortunately Toyota couldn't get it right with the Sequoia. The rest of the SUV, both inside and out is incredible. Thank you Joe and Lori.
RES has been obsoleted by online streaming on IPAD and other tablet devices and most of the time the kids will be doing their own thing on their own tablets anyhow. My 2006 Honda Odyssey RES and DVD player worked wonders when I first got it but when the kids got into their teens it became expendable when I upgraded the sound system to a Pioneer with Apple carplay. The 3rd row would only work for a 5ft short Joe but not a 6ft tall Joe. =)
Went from SEQUOIA To Sequoia, looks smaller than the previous generation. No EL or Max version. I'll keep my 2016 Platinum. I'll get the 22 Expedition Kingranch Max
My BFF’s boyfriend had a Sequoia. I loved it and like the ride. Always wanted one of my own but in the city, I wouldn’t enjoy crowded parking lots or parallel parking hahaha! But I love it.
Imagine if toyota just made a v6 twin turbo non hybrid version of this(or even a diesel option).. saved cargo space at the back. Would've been EASILY the best choice.
I like cars like the Kia Cadenza, Hyundai Azera, Toyota Avalon both the Tundra and Sequoia capstone trims, Hyundai Sonata Limited trim, Nissan Maxima, and others that have a luxury interior under a mainstream badge. I like to have something nice but keep it low profile because I don't want people to know or think I'm flexing on them. You want the features and the comfortable seating but you don't care about the badge or price tag ? These are the cars for you !
I will go for durability and reputation that is something toyota been delivered over the years. I wish the 3rd row was rise at least 8 more inches above floor but check gas grade and consumption with competitors will save 50% that makes me take decision Get my sequoia order, Joe good job get pro and cons.

Joe gets and deserves the top trim.
Expedition max for me. I've been waiting 5 years for this. I have a 2014 sequoia platinum. And this thing is smaller. 2nd row wont work with 3 booster seats installed. To bad. Canceled my pre-order. Sad times now I will have a crappy ford. 😪
Keep the sequoia they’re tanks. That 5.7 is bulletproof
LMAO
Finally a good looking Sequoia! Older gens are just okay looking for me
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one,
So Joe, this Capstone is pretty cool.
Toyota is flexing their bank account
It looks excellent inside and outside this is going to sell no problem with the reputation of Toyota reliability this car will sell itself
Not really. The sequoia has awful interior and cargo space plus no independent rear suspension
Lol this fanboy doing free marketing.
No problem if you keep yourself clean😂😂😄
How can you move the second row seat that has a car seat attached?
What up Joe? SEQUOIA LET'S GO!!!
Factual Statement
Not sure I am liking the cargo area of this new Sequoia. It does not provide a flat load floor without installing that shelf, but then you ultimately lose the total potential vertical space. Quite a few models from other manufacturers have this all figured out. Unfortunately Toyota couldn't get it right with the Sequoia. The rest of the SUV, both inside and out is incredible. Thank you Joe and Lori.
Thanks Wayne! We appreciate you!
Answer to your question - YES of course Keep going 💪 Joe & Lori 🌷
Went from SEQUOIA To Sequoia, looks smaller than the previous generation. No EL or Max version. I'll keep my 2016 Platinum. I'll get the 22 Expedition Kingranch Max
My BFF’s boyfriend had a Sequoia. I loved it and like the ride. Always wanted one of my own but in the city, I wouldn’t enjoy crowded parking lots or parallel parking hahaha! But I love it.
That is very understandable.
I’m glad the Sequoia has tow mirrors available, one thing Toyota could do is add a long wheelbase version of the Sequoia to compete with the Suburban
wont happen
Even if they did it would still fail to compete. Toyota can stretch the sequoia and it would have the same interior space as a short wheelbase Tahoe 😂
Imagine if toyota just made a v6 twin turbo non hybrid version of this(or even a diesel option).. saved cargo space at the back. Would've been EASILY the best choice.
Love the color. Love the interior love Toyota. Beautiful family vehicle
the screen alone makes it better than any GM suv
Joe is wholesome as hell
Too bad, it won’t work for us, was really hoping it would.
Change the white interior to black. Need more bling with inside color lights. Need more space in 3rd row.
They could've added A LOT more cargo space in this vehicle!
This is so very true!
I’m not an SUV person but I’m liking this big ride. Love that red.
I will go for durability and reputation that is something toyota been delivered over the years. I wish the 3rd row was rise at least 8 more inches above floor but check gas grade and consumption with competitors will save 50% that makes me take decision
Get my sequoia order, Joe good job get pro and cons.
Yeah, I'll keep my Yukon. But it was a great review!
It feels like I already had a test drive after watching this review!
