    Everytime i start producing i usually go straight to the Seamless tutorials. Only problem with you is I end up spending all the time i set aside watching more tutorials and writing things down. On that note, maybe you could start a new type of videow here you have a posted video, a download link of the FLP. you are using, and create a interactive experience where we can treat it like more of a class, where we follow along with you. I know that would require alot of work from you and what not, but i think you have a great teaching personality and you could really profit off of something like that.
    Thanks for the videos and knowledge.

    And how would you make if you wanna have more " triggers " than just
    Kick, for example - I want my snares cut through bass as well ( and Im
    usin 3 snares. I have some ideas that Im about to try, but would love to
    get your opinion. To put more limiters on bass, and connect each
    element to each limiter, or can I route all of the " triggers " to one
    channel, and then from it sidechain to bass? If Im gonna with that 2nd
    way, what to do with link of that " trigger " channel connection with
    master? If you have any advice, would be appreciated. However, tnx for this one! (Y)

    I absolutely do not recommend for anyone to use Fruity Peak Controller, it always lets a little part of the lead's beginning through before the sidechain kicks in which makes a tiny click sound. I recommend to use Fruity Limiter and if you want more options for editing the sidechain and it's lenght, use Gross Beat.

      You can get rid of the click by turning the volume all the way to the left, base value 80% and using direct input, not inverted.

    Hi Seamless, great video :) I only wanted to mention that you can also use Effector for sidechaining. I like it because it's easy and unlike Gross Beat it's free.

    Im a bit of a noob so if someone could help me with this that would be great. My problem is that everytime i sidechain something in the beginning it works fine but then something happens and the kick only sidechains on the first beat. First i thought it had to do with the distortion i was using but then i realised i was doing something wrong with the limiter. I just dont know what.. thank you in advance for helping!

    Ive also Sidechained using the Fruity Love Philter - it has some additional parameters that other sidechain tools dont have. You should look into that

    2 important notes:
    1) You must turn ahead to 0% on compressor if you want transient of the kick to trigger the sidechain, otherwise you won't get snappy kick because ahead on compressor behaves like if you increase attack.
    2) In your example you routed lead to master to make lead less sidechained, but this is wrong because audio will be added when sidechain is on and off, so there is no difference in sidechain, lead will just become louder. Only way to do this is to lower the volume on mixer slider, because this affects sidechain level, and to add additional volume by directly routing to the master channel.

    • @SeamlessR
      @SeamlessR  10 років тому

      You're right about the second thing. The appropriate thing to do would have been to reduce the send volume into the "side" mixer insert so that the lead was evenly distributed. As you said, routing it into the mixer makes it "louder" when the sidechain isn't affecting it, but when it is affecting it, the level into the master effectively becomes the "base" level. The reason what I'm doing in the video isn't having as much of a negative impact in the mix is because of the amount of compression I'm using on the master. This could be good or bad depending on your mixing philosophy :) But, your solution is also correct.
      On the first thing, you're mostly right but not in the way you said (you may have meant this anyway and I just didn't get that from your statement). The attack of the kick isn't applied as much on the compressor that's sidechaining, as you can see with the more rounded compressor curve. Which means the kick's attack is still competing with the mix. The thing is, though, if you actually did put the ahead at 0, you actually get some distortion. The "ahead" in the FL Limiter doesn't actually do what "look ahead" does on other compressors. It's actually a "windowing" amount. So, with no windowing, the compressor curve moves around according to the transients much, much faster, which can get distorty. The sort of distorty that was happening when I had a low attack amount.
      You are, however, right about the transient problem in the mix. Again, this is a thing that I solve most of the time with unreasonable crushing compression. If you didn't want to do that, and transient timing was crucial to your plans, I would actually suggest not sidechaining by this method. But instead sidechaining by manual volume automation (automation clips, grossbeat, love philter as was mentioned alongside effector, are all versions of this alternative).

      @julijanniko 10 років тому

      Seamless Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that your information is bad, and you suck, I am just checking my knowledge. :)
      Sorry for not explaining well my note, I am not native English speaker.
      BTW having att more than 0ms will fix distortion, but it will make phase problems if you want to apply your technic for fixing sidechain levels, but you can solve easily this with one patcher on sidechain mixer insert, where you will have one limiter for sidechain, and another for "delaying" audio that goes directly to the master, you just need to copy and paste same values to the both limiters. Also benefit for sidechaining with att on limiter tab ( with ahead 0% on comp tab ) is that audio is getting sidechained before kick hits by amount of att ms on limiter tab, so this could make kick even more punchy than normal sidechain.
      I can make you a project file for example, if you don't understand me.. ;)

    Is it possible to sidechain other things than the volume? For an example, could I sidechain a highpass with the kick?

    • @SeamlessR
      @SeamlessR  10 років тому +3

      Sure, but not using this method. To do that, you would use the Peak Controller. This way, you turn the peak input information from something like a kick drum into a controller. Then you can link whatever parameter you want to that controller. I have a tutorial on how to use the Peak Controller in my channel, just search "Peak Controller" :)
