I just wanted to thank you so much for making this tutorial series. You've sold me on Harmor for when I can get the money together for it and I love how you stop and explain how each and every function operates. I've tried testing things out blindly for years and never really made any headway which was very frustrating since I don't have much of a problem composing on paper but have no idea how to get instruments to sound the way I want in FLS without resorting to presets and then stressing out on how to get rid of the extra effects that I don't need on them. Keep up the great work man and I hope you have a nice rest of the year 2016!
AM is amplitude modulation, which means the carrier frequency stays the same and the modulator is affecting the volume of the carrier wave. FM is when the speed of the frequency(pitch)of the carrier wave is being changed by the amplitude of the modulator wave, which changes the timbre of the sound with modulator speed. The ring modulator is like the AM, but the frequency is basically being multiplied by the frequency speed of the RM.
RM is basically "modulator * carrier". So you just multiply the two signals. AM is "(1 + modulator) * carrier" or stated differently "carrier + carrier * modulator". With ring modulation you just get the sidebands with amplitude modulation you get the sidebands plus the carrier signal. So AM is like RM but you mix in the raw carrier signal to the output.
I'm a huge fan Seamless! I have questions/comments: 1. Why is it that when using a triangle wave to FM, the pitch modulation seems behaves like a square? And using a square seems to produce artifacts. 2. I suggest maybe not doing live streams for your tutorials. Seems like you were distracted with the amount of people asking about stuff you've already covered. Just my 2 cents! :) I love to understand the mechanics of synthesis, and you always have a trick up your sleeve to teach me! Love it.
In response to your first question, he explains it in his video "How To Bass 50: FM From The Ground Up Using FM8," starting at around... 11 minutes in. It essentially has to do with the slope of the triangle wave; he'll explain it better than me. Hope that helps!
First of all, you are the fucking man for these tutorials. Can't express enough gratitude. 2nd what exactly does the MOD parameter do? Not the mod X and Y modifiers but the MOD tab between volume and pitch. It almost just seems like a lowpass filter but I'm not sure. Thanks again man
He explains it at 23:50. In short it changes the volume of the the operators that are modulating that particular operator. Lets say you are at the MOD tab of operator 1. And in the matrix you are using the operators 2 and 3 to modulate operator 1. Then the MOD parameter can be used to change the volume of operators 2 and 3 at the same time.
what you could do instead would be point out the timecodes from the video and anyone courteous enough could stop by and tell you what was being said at that time in the video.
Would a class in sound engineering in college help me more understand things like Sytrus and other wave transforming tools in FL Studio?? I would like to know your opinion.
If u go to a good music production college... They will teach u the basics and everything u need to know They don't teach u how every single plugin out there works, but rather they teach u the basics needed to quickly and swiftly understand any new plugin just by getting a little hang of it... :)
I use blofeld tabletop... sytrus seems like it has waaay more options. but I have been making some nice acoustic instruments sounds on it. using fm and ect. we should link up man. good videos.
+Lethal Faction Dude, trust me; you want FL Studio 12. I had 9 and was hesitant to upgrade for that exact same reason, but pretty much everything is the same except better. like linking tracks to the mixer is way more intuitive, and if you want Sytrus than you also want Harmor that comes with 12. If you have the lifetime upgrades, I at least strongly recommend going for it.
It's thanks to the screen capturing program he uses. Programs like OBS let you livestream to websites like Picarto and Twitch while simultaneously saving the video onto your hard drive to edit for later uploads.
That echo though.

If Jaws taught us one thing, it's to always listen out for ominous music - that shit's really helpful in avoiding sharks.

I just wanted to clarify that for people who haven't studied electronics. Those are the definitions, how they influence is completely discretionary.

Wow. I can't believe this is live streamed.
Yay for Sytrus tutorials!
finally a good tutorial on Fl! Fm in specific
Dude. I love you. Thanks for all your help. *hug*
hey seamless i apologize. you are the greatest.

SeamlessR ! You are amazing, thanks for this!
I really appreciate your tutorials.
dude i love you .... like i love my fav song... you are great
Where is the new sound design request? :(

Can you add some subtitles? I´m not an english speaker, but I understand the word what i can see.. :/
That will take a lot of time...
Whoa, that would be an awful lot of work.
what you could do instead would be point out the timecodes from the video and anyone courteous enough could stop by and tell you what was being said at that time in the video.
Fourier would have loved this tool
Thanks for this tutorial ! I'm waiting for the next part ! :D ♪

+Krish Bedi thank you for that information, i will now look into it deeply! :D
Jaws? I watched that film today, I did it at the hotel. The Four Seasons. Anyone know it? It's a nice place. I recommend the BBQ brisket.
Thanks
Awesome!
For making robostep basses (Cyberoptics, D-jahsta, Cruel Reaction), what offers a wider variety of LFOs and sounds? Sytrus or Massive?..
I use blofeld tabletop... sytrus seems like it has waaay more options. but I have been making some nice acoustic instruments sounds on it. using fm and ect. we should link up man. good videos.
what exactly do those check boxes to the right of the form options do? You said what they were but not what they did.
can you post a video on when is the next sytrus tutorial live stream?
think you can make a trian whistle synth?? :D
I have a question. I got an e mail from Image line saying Sytrus was free in FL studio 12. Is this true? I know the plug in cost 180$.
Yea its free
How do I get my free sytrus then for fl 11?
+Lethal Faction that i am not sure, sorry :/
I got free lifetime updates. I like my old set up though so I don't wanna upgrade to the 12. I jus want my free sytrus.

I wanted music till I heard you
How do you live stream while recording

You babe :3
seam talks more wonky than a dubstep bassline geezuz. otherwise video is cool
reverb voice (((
Fl 11 sytrus is sexier
the guy is an awful tutor he cant stay on topic... he's like a mad professor with 5 ideas in his head at once...
TheBaghdadBadBoy totally with you. its fucking unbearable to listen to him speak...:x
Seamless, please talk slower and more organized. It's bad for the good info you're puting out.
