did image-line just now make their mixer order fx sensitive . as in it now matters what type of order you layer your fx and what not?? ..btw . thanks a lot. I learned much
How come boosting the ratio 2:1 for the lowest volume frequencies creates distortion? Isn't this the same thing as uping the volume knob for only the lower volume frequencies?
Just flicking through some of your old videos; good times! I'm just wondering however, is the waveshaper like Phase Distortion Synthesis or is it actually PD Synthesis?
Maybe that's because I never really studied sound theory, how does a distortion work and stuff, maybe because I'm not native english and you talk so fast, but there's something I didn't get or I'm not sure I got right. So the wave candy, in unipolar mode, kinda boosts the sounds above 0db. Is that correct? If so, why would you want to boost sounds above 0db? Won't them sound bad? And in bipolar mode, does the first half refer to the sounds below 0db and the second half to those above 0db or are both of them the same in a specular view? If they're the same, what's the benefit in bringing the first half down to 0db and raising the second half above? Could anyone help me?
If you don't compress transients in the end, won't they get clipped? By that logic, I'm thinking you would want to use WaveShaper for compression on the master.
Usually you'd just stick with a limiter on the master and use waveshapers creatively on certain tracks as needed, to add harmonics or enhance your sound etc.
SoundsFromSound Thanks, I figured out why WaveShaper doesn't work for compression. I have a few other questions. Does the Fruity Multiband Compressor not have a look ahead function? What attack and release settings should I use for each band? I am using it on the master, and the transients need to be brought down at some point.
+TechnoLogical15 I'm pretty sure the Fruity MB doesn't have any lookahead but I really don't know much about their bundled plugins these days. The last time I used FL it was Fruity Loops! As far as you wanting to know what attack and release settings to use, a few things. First I must caution you: one of the fastest ways to RUIN any mix is by the careless and heavy-handed adding of multi-band compression. If you don't know what you're doing, you can quickly kill the life of a mix. I've seen it tons of times. However, on the other hand, if you know your way around a quality MB compressor AND your ear is well-trained on how to listen to the master mix energy, then yes - MB can really add punch and polish to your mix. All that being said, my general "catch all" approach when beginning to master a track is to start out with fast-to-medium attacks and releases (depends on the style of music, of course) but always remember that you MUST identify first where the energy is in what bands BEFORE you can do any surgery. Check out iZotope, they have a lot of good info! I'll be posting some tutorials later this month on MB compression and my preferred techniques. It may interest you. Sorry for the long comment, but hope that helps! Good luck friend! :)
+SoundsFromSound Thank you. I managed to find out the difference between limiting and clipping today. When you are doing limiting at the very end of the mastering process, should the look ahead be longer than the attack to make sure you catch the transient? I will sub to you so I can see the video when you make it. How should the saturation in Fruity Limiter be related to your ceiling, numerically and visually? I'm going to check out iZotope now and probably get all my questions answered. :)
TechnoLogical15 You'll need to experiment with the look-ahead times yes, but remember that latency likely will be introduced with that feature (which is fine, just be aware) - that is, unless you're using a zero latency limiter but you probably won't be and shouldn't be imo. Saturation, adding harmonics, and dimension to a mix are all a very personal thing so it's what your ears prefer. I don't use any limiters that include saturation built-in, fwiw. I always keep my saturation separate and have a limiter to absolutely nothing but limiting. ONLY exception was when I used the Sonnox for years and years. Wicked good limiter. Xenon too. Pristine. Good luck with iZotope! You're asking great questions, keep it up!
I'm new to FL but what would be the best way to split a bass sound so that i can distort only the mid/high. I would have to split the signal but what's the best way to do that in FL, anyone? Thanks!
+callmedeno If you're looking for a multi-band distortion plugin, go fopr ohmicide or for free ones for tri dirt or delta force (wich actually is my favourite vst :D)
+callmedeno You may want to consider getting FabFilter Saturn. It's a great MB distortion and saturation plugin. Multi-band is your friend here. You could split the signal natively in FL, slightly cumbersome, but totally doable and many people do that so...it's your call. :)
You can professionalize with ya knowledge if you learn to be more to the point. Just a tip. Respect that you try to explain. But you might have a second hand saying which parts are to the point or could be explained differently, in other terms in a more efficient way. You might think of showing 2 or 3 professional video's for free and selling 20 - 50 for 1 to 3 bucks each depending on quality length. I'm interested o, operating by your info. But it's to lengthy, I need let's go information.
9:47, oh man...best moment in any of your videos so far
I love the Waveshaper so much . . . I can't even explain how much.
I JUST HAD AN EPIPHANY THANKYOU DUBGOD
These are absolutely the best fl tutorials on youtube.
Thank you for your awesome in depth tutorials. I've learned so much from watching you!
I use the waveshaper for all of my Gabber and Hardstyle kicks.
chiliman93 It's an Input-Output graph for your audio. X is input, Y is output, so if x = y then the audio is unchanged.
Hi, can you elaborate a bit? I just don't understand what effect a change on X / Y axis has on the sound? Does the frequency / volume change?
The frequency stays the same, the volume changes.
Andrew Highland Thank you.
You know your stuff man !
7:19 didn't know Seamless edited his videos
Thanks. I didn't know what it was for, or how to use it, but I do now.
SLICEX on Saturday bro!
waveshaper is so underrated...
Seamless, be my dad?
Would you be covering the Stereo Shaper at some point? I'd find something on that really handy.
Man that bassline sounds a lot like the bass in Shotgun by Zedd.
did image-line just now make their mixer order fx sensitive . as in it now matters what type of order you layer your fx and what not?? ..btw . thanks a lot. I learned much
in what video did you go into more detail about Maximus being a transient shaper?
when will the video about maximus come out?
How come boosting the ratio 2:1 for the lowest volume frequencies creates distortion? Isn't this the same thing as uping the volume knob for only the lower volume frequencies?
THATS WHAT IS! ive been wondering why there is a signla when no song is playing.. thank you!!! (Dc offset)
Yeah it's like when you press randomise on your synth and it makes this horrible continuous noise that you can't stop D:
Your FL Studio Basics are very hepfull
yeah!

Poderia ter um Seamless brasileiro. Mas por outro lado, eu deixo meu inglês cada vez mais fluído!
Eii that such a friend I speak to you from spain you can make a tutorial related to the breakbeat wooble bass etc thank you
imageline covered aliasing, they have the video on their channel.
the fx chain order has always mattered in any DAW/mixer setup
Relevant information for you... My bad... I should do another program. No harm done.
respect

Seamless you should do a tutorial on fruity stereo shaper!

very informative, but that's not a surprise!

+callmedeno If i'm reading you correct.. lol; your looking for a multi-band compressor, with a waveshaper. Well, that's Maximus. Have at 'er bud.

or just use what FL provides. when you master that, consider 3rd party plugins.
you could also load up a patcher and put in three eqs to split the signal
even after all these years on FL I still don't get the dB graph. I just don't. :(
i like me some waveshaping
what version is this
Fl studio 11
I could help you maybe. What do you wanna know?
guupie to jest!!!!!!!!!!!!
i like your tutorials, they contain bunch of good information, but please could you make some effort on "mastering" your eloquency??
+along4ride the word ends with an e, but yeah I totally agree with you
lol. "airplanes, right?"
Which plugin will remove the gross sound of some guy snorkeling his snot up his nose?
Asking for a friend.
Эх, такие бы уроки, да на русском...
There's bad that this great tutorials are not in Russian((
Just send me a PM, I will do my best :) It's not that hard really.
Its pretty basic really. What do you not understand?

man you should re-do these tutorials. they are so painful to watch. so unorganized and confusing.
