@@justcogitatingA lot depends on what level services you are providing. I didn’t hear either of them say they have any medical certifications so there likely isn’t anything like that involved. Also not all of these people stay very long when they go to someone’s house. My auntie started doing this type of work after she retired. Twice a week she does light housework, shops for groceries, and drives the lady to appointments.
@@anndeecosita3586well said. I make between $30-$40 an hour because I was a group home manager and have multiple certifications. I can handle anything from people with special needs, paraplegics to the elderly with dementia. I know caregivers like your aunt who might make a meal, do light housekeeping and running errands. The pay is commiserate to the medical fragility of the client

"rife with fraud" would be more accurate.. But ripe works.. Rife in this would be "very common" ... Otherwise I totally agree with you.. I am glad my 90yr old mom stays with my brother and his wife who is a RN.. Mom is doing great, but it is nice to know there are ppl there that care.. "Caregivers" if you are to use them, i would go through the local hospital to see who they recommend.

This is exactly why Judge Boyd denies those convicted in her court from working home care or with children. Why home care workers have such a big population of sketchy people makes me so sad.

Years and years ago on Judge Judy there was a roommate sueing the other for a roll of toilet paper as soon as the plaintiff said he wants reimbursed for it she kicked em out. But not until she let both of them know how stupid and childish they were

It's so sad that there are so many elderly people requiring care that just about anyone can be employed as a "caregiver". No training, probably no background checks, thievery... After young children, the elderly need our vigilance the most. Sadly, neither seem to get it in these types of cases.
I’m not sure she knows what a philanthropist is. I don’t trust people who work this type of job. I’ve seen too many of them sitting on their backside while my mother struggled to get to the bathroom. If they’re so good at their job, they’d be working for a lot more pay in a skilled care facility.
You really shouldn't paint everyone with such a broad brush AND private pay jobs usually get paid A LOT more than at any facility. It sounds like you got what you paid for.

I was convinced we were getting the best care. And we were paying plenty, not to mention that we had to provide sleeping facilities for the caregivers - an expense that we were surprised by.

I didn’t just sit there and watch it happen. I popped in and out at all times of the day to make sure Mother was ok. Obviously, many times I popped in and ended up telling the caregiver to pack up and be on their way.
