I didn't even think about that. She probably had no idea how things were going in the case. It is clear to her regular audience that she was skeptical of the defendant's claims she did inferior work and didn't deserve to be compensated... the plaintiff probably didn't even catch on and instead went on a long story saying "Even though I wasn't there, one time I was and I got ice so my friends could come over and have pop," etc. Still probably didn't know where she went wrong as she's not sharp enough.

CNA/Caregiver here. Nothing makes me madder than when I go into a home where someone is being taken care of and I can see the signs of poor care from other caregivers. When I take care of someone I treat them like they were my own grandparents. But I have seen people just sit on their asses for hours providing only minimal care. Just killing time till they get their pay checks. Or worst they steal from them. The victim in all of this is the elderly lady.

I’m not going to judge the family without knowing their situation. My great aunt needs 24 hour care. Her husband and only son are deceased. My auntie ended up quitting her job although she was nowhere near retirement age to move in and take care of her because my great aunt refuses to stay anywhere other than her house. Not every family is willing or able financially to do that. However, my great aunt doesn’t like my auntie’s husband and wouldn’t allow him to allow move in so he was living in his and my auntie’s house. Eventually this broke up their marriage. My cousins (the female ones) help out when they can but they work and have young children. My uncles (her nephews) who live in town don’t help at all. But I will bet as soon as my GA passes they will all be looking for an inheritance. We suspect my dad and his wife have already tried to get her to sign some documents.

Because they are the providers of a service. And taking care of somebody 24 hours a day is not something you ask a friend to do.
I was shocked about the way they treated the old lady, this is not a way to take care of somebody. A shame really!

Not defending either the defendant or plaintiff, but it may be a situation with how the agency allows its workers to accrue paid leave and use that time. The defendant took ten days away, but only gets paid for five leave days every three months. She might have had to use the five days once earned or lose them; so could never do a ten-day leave through her agency.
Agencies are notorious for screwing over their employees, and since these are jobs for people with little education and few job skills, they can be easily replaced.
The whole elder care system in this country is full of corruption.

I have done work like this. These two are, unfortunately, all too common in the field. However, the other side - the patient/client - is sometimes even worse. There are many government programs and agencies that pay through the nose for care which is sub-standard. I went private because the government is not reliable.
