Great video. You can buy a foot peddle to run your saw. You plug the saw into it and the peddle into the outlet. Works great. Hard to hit a switch when your hand is being mangled.
hey, FYI the SWAG 4 table for these saws is clever and solid. I mean solid... it is the best vertical bandsaw I have ever owned with this addition. I have the newest version of the Milwaukee that you have (variable speed). The saw is awesome, too. I have the horizontal/vertical bandsaw from Jet that cost almost $700. I don't plan to use it in vertical mode any more. The Milwaukee portaband plus the SWAG table is a far better option in terms of performance. Plus, it takes up such a small amount of room on a workbench. This video was one reason I made the purchase, and I want to thank you. You steered me in the right direction.
Love it, this will simply have to be my next tool purchase. Cutting steel for knives is probably the hardest part of the fun for this newbie. Thanks for sharing!
That's a really nice table you've explained here. I intend to copy it. The back room of a bike shop is a good place to snag some take-off cam clamps. They all seem to have a 6mm thread so the right tap will be hard to find in most rural areas. Alternatively, Amazon or the hobbyist woodworking supply houses sell new cam clamps in lots of four pieces for $12 or $15. They're relatively clunky but have Imperial threads. I bought a similar Milwaukee saw years ago and have never regretted the premium price. The one vulnerability I've found is that the tires deteriorate with time so keep a spare set in a sealed pouch in a dark place.
Awesome simple idea... I don't comment often but when I do, it's because you hit the ball out of the park! I'll be making one tomorrow, just need to find the locking nut. Cheers man!
Thank you so much for doing this video. Just getting into knife making and researching bandsaws. You saved me from buying a cheap benchtop wood bandsaw and wasting money on dulling blades from going way too fast. Also going to pickup the SWAG table.
Great review. I am buying this ASAP. Been looking at band sands and wasn’t sure these portables would do the trick. But if they work for you... that works for me! You’re doing great work brother
Nice review. I really love my portable bandsaw. Mounted up in its stand I use it more than my larger bandsaws. I use a foot switch to turn my saw off and on when mounted up. I also use a strip of velcro to wrap around the switch to hold it on.
I am very impressed with how quick that cut. It really shows you get what you pay for. When you buy a quality product from a company like Milwaukee it works like a charm. The cheaper tools help get people working and for the weekend warrior it might work for a while but for a pro like yourself what a great product. As always great job bud. Be well. - Jay
I just got my model 6232-21 30 minutes ago for $160 found it on OfferUp couldn't belive it.. freaking! Spanking new 🤪😁🙏🏻😎 im hella exited to set this on my shop thanks dude!
Portaband is probably the most used, versatile tool I use when working with metal. Use only the 10-14 TPI blades since I don't do much with thin stuff. Horrible Fright makes a on/off foot switch that would be good when locking trigger down, just get the right 1 cuz they also make a momentary. Think you're off some on your prices tho, the Milwaukee 11 amp that cuts 5x5 goes for $299 with case.
Harbor Freight makes a excellent stand that accepts most brands. It allows vertical and horizontal cuts. It has surprising accuracy. $119.00.
5 років тому+2
Just an observation. If you made the back of your table flat with two prongs fitting tightly around the saw it might stop most of the table movement. Nice video!
After spending an hour or two just cutting out with a cut off wheel and grind wheel 2 knife shapes I'm definitely going to be looking locally for a used portable bandsaw. Good idea!
@@Simplelittlelife yeah I feel like doing what you can to save time is a big help in the long run. I'm making a hunter, a clip point, and a modified tanto right now. Finishing up on tempering this second and going to do some sanding. My bench grinder put a couple gouge scratches in the blades so I'm trying to get that sanded out for a nice finish. Only thing I can think of is to hit it with the flap disc till they disappear lol. Each knife gets a little better though
Overall impression is great! Like your hook up that holds the handle Mine solved this problem but more difficult to copy and need welding. Mine has a 11" square 3 legged table that pulls in & out in few seconds ( few) My table has cross cut My table has fence. Your velcro is better than my wire tie. I can pick up my holder and move to different benchs. Painted Mine in Ohio State University colors. (.others can pick thier colors) I have a outlet for plugging in light with its oun light switch and 2 outlet that often handy. Seen plenty of set up believe mine's has the most bells and yours is Very Good too 👍 Thanks we help each others please add any of my features and teach them viewers 🙏
I really like the clamp you have for the table. Those bandsaw tables you mention don't fit the deep throat model Milwaukee porta-band. At least they didn't, last I looked. I'm building a table for mine, but the one difference is that I'm using a foot switch. Foot on, power on. Someone I know slipped with a sorta-band. Sliced his hand in half. Generally, they are safe as you mentioned. Milwaukee makes a multiple sized tooth blade. It really works well for harder or thicker material.
right on man! and still be able to grab it up, toss it in the trunk to take to your buddy's house. yes a small 12 or 18" table that it fits on would be stable and great with a switch. also a good DIY project
Eyy, that quick release cam clamp method is the same way Brian Oltrogge did his! If you don't know who that is you should search him up, he has some great videos!
I bought the cordless M18 Fuel version for work and it is no where near as loud. Cost $ 500 Aussie for the skin only version. I really like the larger plate you made and the clamp looks just like a scooter neck clamp.
Great demonstration Jeremy, thanks for sharing it. I bought the HFversion and it is working out just fine for me. I made a stand for it and I'll bet you end up doing the same.
Had to go watch this one again I've got one of these and had it years but mines the battery one and I've only just started using it for cutting out blades. I did have a bigger metal one but it was rubbish at trying to cut blades out for some reason. But now I'm using this one I need to build a stand of some sort cause my vice is crushing the handle 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Yeh man plenty of power it's awesome just the batteries don't last long. I use it a lot more to cut out blades and you can see it in action in my videos. Just wish I had the plug in one for the ease of not charging and Changing batteries 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hi diesoneveryfilm, what blades are you using when cutting steel for the knife blades? I am having trouble finding one that works well to cut 1095 annealed steel.
Great saw. Try a foot switch. Also you can fab a guard easily. Even an adjustable style if you wish. I approximate making stuff but the table from Swag is great. Saw on!
Haha, So happy to see this video, firstly because my workspace is SO limited that I have to sit on an office chair and spin around between my handwriting side and my power tool side opposite, but this will be shown to my daughter who yesterday asked to use the small sander/grinder belt of an old einhell stone and belt set up, man , she's only six and she broke a plastic key to her toy box ( a coin or flat head screwdriver would turn it) and wanted to smooth off the Sharp parts so I used the jigsaw to cut the end off and she totally owned the belt and listened to my 'speach' on safety in the shed, she enjoyed it a little too much and there's nothing much left of the key but that lead us on to deciding to make her a new metal key and I have been considering how to fit another tool into the cramped space I have ,now I know I can get shot of my very old Delta 16" scroll and replace with a portable band saw which will also cut metal BONUS! And I am gonna show her on loop the section 4:15 to 4:25 Because yep no matter how many safety systems you have in place, if you're just plain stupid or approach a tool feeling intimidated by it highly increses the chances that you are gonna get hurt in my mind, I may even get around to buying some 01 and seeing if we can make some camping knives although I am gonna have to check out the laws here in the UK first about owning knives as they are cracking down on all sorts of things in a seriously knee jerk reaction to some teenagers sadly killing another with a meat knive from mothers kitchen drawer!!! If we do make knives I'll set up my point and shoot cameras and try to Send you a decent edit, thanks for another great video, M
First off, thank you for inspiring me to start knife building. It's always been an interest and after watching your videos I have made it a reality. I do have a question. What blades are you using on your bandsaw? I have a portable bandsaw similar to yours and no matter what blade I seem to use it doesn't like to cut my 1095 steel. Help please. Thank you. :)
It's weird that it comes with their rest built into it when it's not designed to be used like that but the way that you did it is set up really nice I like it a lot
Love Milwaukee stuff. When I have ugly work to do like say, cutting up petrified grizzly bears, I don't even bother looking at the competition. Nice table top mod.
Hey Jeremy loving the TTT so far! I'd love to see one on the milling machine. I want to get one but all the ones that I have seen are really expensive ($1000+) so I have to save up for quite some time first. Keep it up!
Thanks for sharing. If you make a single stand that will hold it upright, as well as acting as a mitre saw that would be spectacular. I am surprised you did not like the 18 tpi blade as this would be ideal for thin gauge stock since you want a minimum of 4 teeth on the steel stock whilst cutting.
time to go order a round plate... think i'll just use a bolt and lock washer since i don't have bike parts for a quick release and don't really feel like ordering one.. nice instructional video though. sub'd.
i've seen some guys including me that hang it from the top handle on a wall and it lays perfectly. you only need some wall space. the best way is betweem two studs !!!!
Id love to get a quality portaband. I have a hf bauer and it works fine and is so much quieter than the old chop saw, however i feel if i start using it for more and more of my cuts it wont last long.. i mainly use mine for cutting thick solids 2” and up... makes clean , quick cuts
A suggestion would be to remove Milwauke's wonky sliding mount all together, and turn your table around 180 degrees and bolt your table directly to the saw. will probably eliminate all your table movement.
Awesome Video! Thanks for the info! I would prefer to save my large bandsaws for wood, and one of these would be great for my occasional knife make needs.
I really enjoy watching all your videos, nice table you built with the quick release. Do you find it hard to keep a straight cut with the portable bandsaw ? (blade wanders all over)
I have a Milwaukee Saw and I also got the Swag Off-Road Table. Mine wiggles something terrible. It really needs to be addressed. My saw is on the verge of falling off the back of the table. And it definitely rocks and moves when cutting.
I don't have a table wobble issue. I have a saw wobble issue. It's only fastened to the table via a thumb screw underneath the factory guide plate. And it hangs on about 2mm of metal lip into the open vent area on the casting on the rear of the saw. Well, the issue is the wobbly guide plate. There really isn't any way to tighten that up, short of just removing it and permanently modifying the saw.
Hey thanks for the informative video as well as the many others you put out. Any recommendations for cutting hardwoods with the same saw? Metal blades are all I can find at 44 7/8 blade length. Lower TPI maybe?

Tony Giruzzi an angle grinder is more functional for the money
angle grinder spray of sparks and burnt steel dust everywhere, bandsaw is the way to go.

Great tip on the band saw and quick release Jeremy. That would make cutting out the blades so much faster. Thanks!

I bought a similar Milwaukee with the swag table and that combo is awesome. You are right it is much louder than you would expect.
Great idea, I had some extra targets and used your idea on my Milwaukee Deep Cut Band Saw. This is so much safer! Thanks for creating this project.
Good idea and nice demonstration. You're right about the saw being loud, I was also surprised by that.

Right on
After spending an hour or two just cutting out with a cut off wheel and grind wheel 2 knife shapes I'm definitely going to be looking locally for a used portable bandsaw. Good idea!
I hear you 100%! I still cut certain types of stainless steel on the angle grinder and man it is a lot more time and effort than the old porta-band 👍

simple yet effective.. like your vids. subscribed
great tool review Jeremy, thanks for posting your experience with this. I will definitely be putting this on the Christmas wish list. ;-)
Great video. I am starting out and this make so much sense. Thank you!
cool channel I am going to make one and put it on my channel also, picked up 2 portable band saws, one to go one for the table...
U gave me lots idea what i considering, thinking!!!! so thanks.
I'm in Calagary near by u ;-)
Thanks Jeremy, really great tool review.
We have one of these at work. I wonder if it will fit in my lunch bag...
Lol
Great video amazing thank you so much hope u had a nice weekend with family bring on next week

The shoe moves so you can get it up on a wall if you're cutting pipe on a building or something similar
I have a stand that mine sits in and I use the harbor freight foot pedal switch for mine also
what is the circumference of the circle
Great content in this video, thanks!! Also, really excellent image quality. What is your camera/lens setup?
Hey Jeremy I was wondering what you thought about the idea of making a straight razor?
I really enjoy watching all your videos, nice table you built with the quick release. Do you find it hard to keep a straight cut with the portable bandsaw ? (blade wanders all over)
Thanks! Great thinking, I just need an occasional 'stand' for my portable bandsaw, and I happen to have a vice. .
I have a Milwaukee Saw and I also got the Swag Off-Road Table. Mine wiggles something terrible. It really needs to be addressed. My saw is on the verge of falling off the back of the table. And it definitely rocks and moves when cutting.

Any recommendations for cutting hardwoods with the same saw? Metal blades are all I can find at 44 7/8 blade length. Lower TPI maybe?
Great revieuw... what is the type number of the machine?
If you did it again would you get a different brand bandsaw or do you think that ones the best
Not bad one with like a fence would be cool
Nice retrofit with the plate/clamp. Do you need to use oil while cutting your knife blades?
Buy a foot switch for power. Swag sells it
Great idea
Great video the only thing I have a question on is that clamp that you use to hold the table on that you made I must have missed something way you said where you got those round pieces of steel and I didn't understand the clamp is there something on Amazon I could buy that would work let me know please
thanks
Dude great 😄
You do understand that you have invented something that will sell like wild to the portable bandsaw community, right?
Please market this and make some money so you can expand your business before someone else takes this idea and runs with it.
Excellent job!
Change out the factory plate and eliminate the slop.
Why not tighten the sliding bracket to prevent the slop/movement of the cutting table?
Never thought of that but I’m not sure it’s overly easy to do. I haven’t seen any means of adjusting that. Having said that, it hasn’t been an issue so far with it. 👍
i found the 6232-21 4 speed for only $279 , love it . is there a reason having the 4 speed vs 2 is a bad thing ? why did u get the 2 speed version
Nice video and tips, quick question: have you ever try to ....or cutted wood with that band saw ??
Thank you. Yes I have. I works great👍
@Simple Little Life Works great cutting wood ??
The sawblade is 90 degrees to its normal axis. They twisted the blade. Alot of extra stress on the blade isnt it?
Thatcrazypurpleman simplelittlelife replied on Instagram and he said he would make micarta
I'm buying one....
Doing this to my saw tomorrow. Thanks a ton for the idea.
mine turned out great thanks again.
You should use an angles pice of wood and push it in
I love mine, kinda pricey but they pay for themselves in terms of convenience and capability.
can you cut wood - if so, do you use a different blade
21 bikes? wow
I noticed behind you is a mill. What is the description of your mill?
is there 220v of this kind of band saw?
I would like to know could you make me one of those quick clamp circle top table??
Can you tell me what bandsaw blade you used to cut hard steel like leaf spring?
Love how he said the harbor freight was lower end even thougj it has more cutting capicity
+aaron rudd cutting capacity has nothing to do with quality. When buying tools you'd be wise not to confuse those two.
Can you cut a 45 on a piece of something like 2x2 square tube?
Where exactly can someone get one of those quick releases?
A question about the table. Was the quick release an axle and how did you attach it to the plate?
You bet, it is a quick release from a bicycle (actually I think it was a seat post binder) and I just tapped it into the table. Cheers👍
Is that a Delmar hoodie?
Cool
