LOL that is what I was hearing when I came up with naming it. Wow I remember when that song came out. Thanks for watching and the memories Jordan, Gary
There is something just so very fine about turning English Walnut, it is such a beautiful wood in the hands of a master..Gary you brought the very best out of that piece, nice job
Yup, you've got that finish down pat, Gary! Sure looks good with the contrasting sap wood and heart wood. It was fun to see how the dark part of the river that you wanted to keep near the bottom side of the bowl just moved it's way up as you did a little more turning. No harm done and it looks great! Just another excellent turning, my friend. Keep'em coming! 😀 Phil
Thanks Phil! I tell ya that was the coolest thing I saw all week when that river relocated it self to a better place. Looking at the bottom I was sure it was going to be gone. Happy Days! Speaking of rivers I know you have been on the Clackamas. Well I fished it for years for salmon and steelhead and could go down in the dark to get my spot. In the 1996 flood there was a spot on the river where the channel I would go down moved about 500 yards from where it was at before. Not talk about being confused. Made this little Walnut river pocket change LOL Thanks for watching my friend, Gary
Actually a new channel was formed and we drifted over what used to be someones front yard. It was a little tricky getting my drift boat around the corner.
Walnut has such rich colors and patterns whether it is black walnut or English walnut. The contrasts in this piece are especially lovely. It is fun seeing the pictures you find in the wood whether it is a lizard, a pig, or river.
Thank you Cecilla. I do love both walnuts as well. Finished up another English Walnut piece yesterday. Not without blemishes but wow the wood is so cool. And there is a face in this one as well. Thanks for watching, Gary
Good evening, Gary. Gotta love Walnut. Nice job with the crack. Absolutely a beautiful bowl. Oh how the wood changes when the finish goes on. Wowzer. I'm already excited about your next video. See ya then.
Thank you very much Ray. For sure it is like once you put that finish on there is nothing left to see. That is why I take it one step farther with the abrasive paste. See ya later! Gary
Bowl shape plays well with the two tone ribbon in the wood. Great to have a bowl turn easy with out any major dramas. If they would only all go that smoothly!
Thanks Valerie, yes it is nice when everything goes smooth. On some of my turnings it seems like I am doing what I can to make it hard to turn. Like the one I am working on right now. Thanks for watching, Gary

See Gary, after doing those exotic segmented and glued bowls, you can still turn out a plain bowl, although there is nothing plain about this one. Its absolutely beautiful.
Thank you Rick. Yes sometimes it is nice just to make a big pile of shavings. I hang a big plastic bag off one of my benches and when it gets full it goes out to the yard for lots of things. Take care, Gary
Gary, The bowl looks great…the grain really popped and the undulating pattern is special. Glad the crack didn’t effect the final product, in fact it enhanced it.
Beautiful Gary. That wood is special. The crack you filled looks like it's a natural part of the grain. It also sounds like the mad scientist is at it again! We will see. Take care. Bill
Thank you Bill. I do like how the crack looks as well. Yes late yesterday I was in the lab and got the pieces together. Today I will see if I can turn it. Thanks for watching, Gary
Beautiful piece of art as always. Yep, I know what you mean about making shavings. It is so mesmerizing to watch shavings fly off your piece. Thanks for another fun project.
For sure! It is fun watching those shavings peel off. As long as you stop in time. One day my wife needed some shavings to go around her blueberry plants I grabbed a piece of Leland Cypress and turned it down to nothing and brought her the shavings. Now that was fun!
My my my, what a beautiful bowl. I'm one that loves wooden bowls and especially English walnut, but I've never had the opportunity to turn one. I've watched your videos now for 3-4 years and I've never seen one that I haven't liked. You do a fantastic job on everything you turn. Just as I said to your friend Phil yesterday, sometimes a simple project is more spectacular than the fancy and difficult projects. this simple bowl is absolutely wonderful. Not withstanding, your glue up bowls are equally wonderful. That little crack actually adds to the beauty of this bowl. Many times, a simple project with the touch of a master outweighs the more difficult. ;-)
Thanks so much Robert! Those little defects add a lot to some turnings. I filled this one because I was not sure how far it went in. But in the end I think it did make it look better filled. Thanks for watching and commenting. Gary
Howdy, Gary! What a great piece of walnut to work with! Yes, it's a simple bowl, but simple elegance is classic. Then again, there's not a single simple thing about the gorgeous grain! Very well turned! 👍
I noticed that when I watched your video last night Leo. We much get a little more coordinated on what we turn LOL. This came from a section of the tree that I was not going to take. It was huge. But the tree cutter slabbed in down. He is the same guy who cut my Siberian Elm and ask me where I wanted the pieces cut while he was up in the tree. Did the same with our friends tree. Thanks for watching, Gary

That is just a really nice looking piece of wood and the bowl turned out awesome.
Thank you Mark! I look forward to turning more of it.

Howdy, Gary! What a great piece of walnut to work with! Yes, it's a simple bowl, but simple elegance is classic. Then again, there's not a single simple thing about the gorgeous grain! Very well turned! 👍
Thank you very much Dave, and you are so right about the grain in this piece.

Beautiful bowl Gary. Really like the turned in rim that you did. The “crack” worked out well. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Doug, with wood like this it is hard to go wrong. The crack become one of my favorite features.

So we both did a Walnut project this week! Nice one Gary!
Your finish is fantastic again.
