    Nicely done mate great tips. FAIRY LIQUID if you were to look at it under a microscope all the bubbles are different sizes this apparently can make the mortar weak and unstable , in my experience this does seem to be the case, Febmix and other Admixes under a microscope the bubbles are uniform and all the same size which produces a stable mix that's how one QS explained it to me once👍👍

    Hey man nice video, can you make a water storage tank using brick walls similar to what you do in the video ? Or would you use a different technique
    I want to store about 1000 liters, one square meter so nothing too big.

    • @trickybrickys
      @trickybrickys  2 місяці тому +1

      I would be more inclined to use a plastic tank. And put brickwork around the outside I think. I've built a raised pond before using this method. But the pond was lined with a rubber liner. Hope this helps 🙏

  • @nigelsmith1198
    @nigelsmith1198 2 роки тому +1

    Yep.! Fairy liquid kills the cement.! A few years back when I was a foreman we carried out work for the local councils, they never allowed plasticiser, only lime, one particular job ( 2 storey block of flats) I walked out of the site office and could smell lemon washing up liquid and the subbies had poured a load into the water butt ( no silos in those days) the labourer gave a load of bollox when I questioned it.! Walked over to where the Bri lies were laying and all you could smell was lemon.!!!! Needless to say all the work they had done that day was pulled down…..

    Great vid. I learnt a lot.Just about to have a go at pretty much the same project. My one concern is the wall is to run alongside a driveway which slopes down to the road. Did I miss in the vid how you level each end to the other? I want the wall level and not to follow the slope of the driveway. So its going to be more bricks at the road end than the house end. Should I us a laser level? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    I forgot to mention, I cant level the footings as the driveway is made of reinforced concrete about 15cm thick with block paving ontop. So I think the concrete underneath the blocks would be sufficient footings for a small wall? just that it is sloping. Hope that makes sense...

    • @trickybrickys

    This was kinda relaxing to watch, thanks for the video. I have two questions if I may. 1. If you were building a taller garden wall (say 6') would you add a DPC? 2. In this video, I noted that you didn't fill the dip in the center of the bricks for the top edging bricks, is that because they aren't taking any weight, so just a little mix around the edges is sufficient? Thanks again for the video, I want to watch more now! :)

      No damp on a outside wall.. why would you put a damp in is the question 🤔. Its a outside wall not a house. And the top brick is full. It's fills as I compress it. 2 years on and still looking mint 👌

      Thanks so much for the prompt reply, appreciated. I think I had just assumed they were always used (I have zero experience to draw from) and thought maybe they'd also help protect the cement between the bricks above it. Thanks again for the reply, really enjoyed watching you work. :)

    I only came across your video today. Awesome job! Just a quick question - you are making a 0.5:5 mix ratio. I always thought 1:3 was the right one. I'm about to try to build one myself but now I'm a bit confused about the ratio.

    • @trickybrickys
      @trickybrickys  2 місяці тому +1

      4-1 sand to cement. The mortar has to be quicker than the bricks. So if anything ever cracks the mortar goes first not the bricks you are using. You can check this stat out on the side of any blue circle bag of cement. All the correct ratios are printed on the side. 😁😁 hope that helps

    Does that wall need no weep vents or drainage to deal with water behind it from the soil? About to replace wooden sleeper walls in my garden with similar height to what you built there so brilliant video to help with that but I’m wondering about drainage.

    • @trickybrickys
