    Excellent video I learned a lot from this. I need to lay a block wall 12 blocks long and 3 high. I only have one of those plastic mixing trays and I'm wondering if I can manage with that or if I really need to hire a cement mixer which I don't want to do.

    Surely you need deeper foundations for this? Once the water gets under the concrete base level you could if you wanted push this over or move it freely?

    Should have put some pipes in to drain the water out
    This will fail in no time.

    • @purplemonkeydishwasher5269

      I that because the plastic grass is laid on a concrete slab? I suppose that it will retain water, but as its not earth or even any significant height I doubt it will "fail". You'll just have a soggy garden.
      But drains may have been a nice thought.

    Thank you for the video! So helpful. One question how deep and wide do you build the foundation? I'm planning to do the same for a 1 metre tall wall. Which holding back soil which only half metre tall. Thanks for the help again

      If your building a retaining wall you'll need a good footings, about 300mm deep by 400mm just to be safe, thanks for watching 👍

    Great vid. Do I have to create a concrete base before laying the block. I notice you just put the mixer on the gravel and lay the block on. Your response will be appreciated

    • @thewelshbuilder2454

      We made a stiff concrete mix and layed the first block straight on, but you'll be better off concreting the footings and leaving it dry first 👍

  • @eaminslim52
    @eaminslim52 2 роки тому +2

    Thanks for this, any tips on how to make sure those dry blocks dont suck the moisture out the mortar? Or is it all in the mix? I think im getting the mix to a nice consistency but its drying out and not giving me enough "squish" to level out blocks...if that makes sense?

      @@vrglcom it boils down to durability and lateral strength in my opinion, that's not to say that houses in the UK during the early 1900 and earlier were built on concrete footings because not all of them were, some had brick spreader footings so the bricks were banked, some built on a raft and some didn't have any, this is often why you find some houses need under pinning because of substandard and non existing footings.
