Thanks for watching!
Im a bricky myself, a good solid wall build here.the finishing on the pillars is fantastic, most people would put a flag on it.i look at old buildings and admire the quality of the work.its a trade that im proud to be in.
Nice one Tom, good trade to have

Building homes for people-you have the best right to be proud of .
Is it good money?
@@Dndididnfifjrmems very good money.
This is the type of teacher people need. Very clear, very simplistic, no beating around the bush. To the point.
I like how you keyed the top cap corners, so that they will not come loose.
Loved the keyed corner bricks too, are they a set of specials or you cut them on site?
Was thinking the same, nice detail.
I was just going to comment the same thing
Never thought watching a brick wall being built would be so captivating. It's a work of art how you built that wall! RESPECT!
Bricklayer for 20 years. My cousin used to say people will ask who built it, before their likely to ask how quickly did they build it. Take you're time do it right the speed will come with time. Nice tasty work by the way.
Brilliant, Im in my 60 s and just moved into a bungalow. I have been digging up loads of bricks and after watching this Im going to attempt to build a low wall with them. Thank you
Why do professionals make it look so easy?? Respect to you my man!!
Easy with practice nacho
@@Stucrompton1 your videos are so good and helpful to me and pretty sure to many more and i want learn brick laying so i have question : how did yu change the color of cement and is that effect the cement strength and quality , can i use it in real big home walls with no risks, thanks for your time
FAROUK CNEPD FORMATION Cement colouring pigment liquid or powdered form ~ might be a bit weaker on actual strength ~ but add 20% more cement to mix ~ more than compensate.
Habit, muscle memory, failure, practice, practice and practice
@@bengreen1262 thank yu so much 👍
I just realized that that fancy little top corner cut is more than just decorative; it locks it in and keeps it from getting knocked loose.
Obviously a man who takes immense pride in his work very impressed
I used to help my grandmother make Christmas cookies, well watch, mostly, as she made them. She took such care, such pride in her work, it was mesmerizing. In the same way, when you lay brick, the the way you do it, the skill you use, well, it’s mesmerizing. And it reminds me, a little, of those long ago December days at my grandmother’s house. Thanks.
Great Comment
I'm 55 years years old now, and have been a brickie nearly 40 years. Still like watching your vids though.
Great work Sir. ❤
Did his dad kay c teach him or did he learn else where. Great vids
Tom Elliott I am looking at doing a bricklaying course at collage to become a brickie is there anything bad about it like can I work in the rain or winter
Respect
Never thought watching a wall being built could be so therapeutic 😌 top quality workmanship 👌
Yeah, was thinking the same.
I was thinking "I've just wasted 3 minutes of my life"
Winston Churchill built brick garden walls during WW2 as a hobby.
our customers will pull up chairs and sit there all day and watch us lay the bricks, then go get us lemonade, buy us lunch, one customer bought us 200 lemon pepper and mild hot wings 3 fridays in a row during the duration we were on their house.
A master tradesman at work. Absolutely first class. A pleasure to watch. Top marks Stu.
A TRUE CRAFTSMAN OF HIS TRADE . 1 million attaboys !!!!
From a retired BRICKIE I throughly enjoyed your work.
Every Mason that I ever met is a tough son of a bitch. Just starting out laying at my job it's hard
I love watching these wall being built, so relaxing, for a 70 year old. Thanks
A truly remarkable skill that is very much underestimated, until you have to do it yourself and realise it's not as easy as it looks! Great video, great wall!
I live in a major metro area, nothing but hacks in the construction industry. This video gives me hope, there are still real craftsmen that care about their work. Carry on sir! Great job!
Thanks many plenty of us do a good job
Thanks many plenty of us do a good job
Fantastic bricky not only a bricklayer. He is an artist at his craft.. Great job
What are the first bricks being laid on? Bare ground or is there a footing beneath? Can't see in this video.
@@patkaczmarek7362 What do you think? Cowboys question
As an old ex brickie (who hasn’t touched a trowel in 20 something years) that was a pleasure to watch. 👍
Absolute craftsmanship - I believe there is a huge difference between laying bricks and crafting an art. Well in Stu & Kc. Was looking forward to the finished product and wasn’t disappointed. 🤙
I find technique very perfect. Wish you much health and happiness
If I was having a house built I now know who I would want to build it, amazing brick work and highly skilled workers
Very talented brickworkers to say the least.
May I add that whoever mixed that mortar also knew exactly what they were doing and that is making life much easier for the bricks.
Great video and of course a great job too.
John.
As a joiner by trade of 22 years, that is very neat work, you should be proud of what you have built! Not many good brickies around nowadays! 😊
Whats a chippy no about brickie's nowt
Very professional. A good bricklayer checks for the best face before its laid and doesnt leave so much mud on the face that it takes 1000 litres of acid to clean it. Too many rough brickies these days that just dont have pride. Well done.
The works of a diligent and meticulous man. Perfect artwork on those bricks 👏
Thankyou love
Music going perfect with the highest quality brick work ever seen before. Thanks for making this video.
This isn't brickwork it's a precision meticulous artist at work
I'm a bricklayer living in the philippines employing local people missing my old life this was a great video and those pier tops were fantastic , i'll the guys who work for me the video 😀
An absolutely masterful performance! Hats off to you, Sir.
You made magic with those bricks and mortar.
Best wishes from Buffalo, NY USA
hey thanks for watching roy, just doing my best
@Hello Roy Lewis, How are you doing?
Честь і хвала людині, що будує та створює своїми руками !!!
Brick by brick you're growing your audience! Seen you and the channel grow from humble beginnings... keep up the great vibes bud!
Never seen the corners on a pier done like that before, I like it
Thanks Richard, I came up with the corner design in my academy
@@Stucrompton1 did you cut them corners with 4" grinder ? Or are they off the shelf? Good smart brickwork bud👍 . I do like a bit of brickwork but as from Cornwall there is a lot of stone work
Corner bricks that tie in with the second ones on the pier tops are brilliant
This is pure art . Amazing workmanship
It was awesome to see you bring the tops of those pillars to a finish.
Who would have known how satisfying and interesting it could be to watch someone build a brick wall......great work guys.
cheers Vince, it can be interesting to watch even for me.
It popped in my recommendation list , I don't know why. I've never built a wall and I think I'll never will, but I loved watching it. Nice editing, nice music, very informative.
I subscribed to your channel, keep the good work 👍
im a bricklayer and ive never seen how you lock in the small edge pieces of the capping before.very nice
My goodness that was amazing!
That’s a well built strong wall. Very therapeutic to watch too, I had to watch the speeded up sections at 1/4 speed😳
Superbly finished. Great vid, you are a true craftsman👍
A real pleasure to watch craftsmen working and caring about their work ..great upload perfect soundtrack too. Thanks for sharing your skill with youtube land keep them coming .
Will do cheers shadow
Incredible last few videos on this garden wall. The cuts on the pillars were really good and so neat! Enjoy your trip to Dubai Stu and KC!
I don't know if the cap corners are made that way or cut on site but I've seen masonry and masons my whole adult life( a long time) and I've never seen the corners notched like that to keep the corners from falling off like they do sometimes and I think it's GENIUS!!!
I just came up with the idea in my academy and cut them on my table saw 👍
Just beautiful work... pleasure to watch a master mason making it look so effortless
Stuart, you truly are a craftsman. An inspiration. For a young lad with such talent and without an ego. Keep up the good work. The world is your oyster mate.
I like the 4 cuts on the top of the pillars! Theyre usually the first to rot and fall off/ get knocked off but the way youve cut them to tie them in to the sides was a sick idea man! Nice work!
Agree with Luke, I've never seen it done like that before 👍
Excellent work Stu , Very nice detail on the piers B.O.E capping and like the way you've notched the corners, Top job.
Looks amazing. Love the custom cuts on those corner pieces of the cap.
Nice to see a fellow craftsman making it look easy but not really just experience respect to good and do there best British builders
I’m a retired builder and I’m here to say this brick mason is a very talented tradesman and he takes great pride in producing only top level work. People that contribute excellent workmanship are always a God send on building projects.
WOW - that’s craftmanship! Very rarely see this quality and design work.
Top coarse on pillars with the corner brick detail I haven’t seen before and look really smart , well done
Absolutely, I never seen them corner pieces before. There usually the first piece to come loose, so a good invention.
You use a lot of mortar and I love that because it really allows the mortar to get into the cracks/holes of the brick.. I see too many people only use the bare minimum.
Great finished product that I bet the client was really happy with! Have you ever done a strong retaining wall that was not only functional but aesthetically pleasing too? Al I see online are functional and ugly things. Keep up the great work Stu & KC
I've built countless decorative retaining walls. You're correct though - most you see are not aesthetically pleasing
That’s a great job from a top quality tradesman.
Love the detail in the pillars.
Made to last...I hope that in 200 years some will see it and say "wow the person who build this was a master of his craft"
For sure, love your work mate keep it going and sharing it with us👌
Very nice brickwork ,love the way you cut the top corners , craftsmen
Tremendously well built that pillar finish is pure class.
Nothing better than watching a skilled craftsman at work!
Well Done Stu it's a great feeling when you get the video that does these numbers, I had my first 1million view video last year, big up us tradesmen
You sir are not a bricklayer. You are a fired clay and mortar technician. So neat and precise. Those pillar caps are top notch.
That’s a different way of putting it but I sounds cool
It looks so easy when you watch someone who knows what he's doing. Very nice!
Yeah it looks eazy. I'm a laborer that's just learning to lay and it's hard to make it look good in a reasonable amount of time
j doubleu get another trade son. Too hard being a Brickie!
@@simonstones1918 yep that's what they all say. Gonna wear my body down too much. Gonna work 2 1/2 more years till my boss retires (He is my best friend's dad) than he said he will help me pay for college.
Something so satisfying about watching a pro lay bricks
cheers mate
That is not a wall - that is a priceless work of art
Former landscapist/gardener here, would have noticed that quality and would have tried to match it with my work.
Love it :)
Cheers jaakko
What a craftsman you are sir, Ive never seen piers finished with that design before.
Fantastic job!
Cheers david
Wow beautiful brickwork, they must have been over the moon with this job. The piers are really nice and the capping details is fantastic. Nice to see we still have good lads out there taking pride in their work👍
My only question: Is Stu a better brick layer or cinematographer?!? I love watching you build things. Really cool skill you have.
Robert Ralph I agree!!
Queen closers and corner tingles on the corbel course. And not a larry pot in sight.
Great work.
Would still be doing and loving it today at 62 years of age, but three split discs in my back put an end to that.
I watch this and think I could easily try making a brick wall, but that's what professionals do, make difficult things look piss easy ☑️
This level of craftsmanship is rare here in Australia now. Builders want a team to lay 1000 common bricks a day and pay them peanuts. Consequently the finished run is struck flush and then bagged or painted.
Bricks with this high concentration of clay are rare, if not antique. A brick nowadays has about 30 grog mixed in with the clay, giving a rougher surface, leaves the bricking with stubby fingers and bird's eyes.
No one knows what a corbel is now and stiff cheese if you want a chimney to draw...............
"doh.....what's a smoke shelf???"
Did the original get pushed over by the soil behind it??
Grand job!!!
Stephan
There isn’t any brickys out there that put that much effort in! They’d get you to fit pier caps!! Wish you was down south stu I’d give you all my work!!
Olly Hall exactly!! 👍🏼👍🏼
Fairly new to the bricklaying scene, my grandpa has been a stonemason for 50+ years and retired about 2 weeks ago, im 17 but before he retired i was able to help him in stonework, brickwork and concrete jobs, and watching him work was the most satisfying thing, sad hes about stopped but i may follow in his footsteps👍
What are you doing now?
That is a thing of beauty especially ware you corbelled out for the copping brick and the small corner brick in the pier is amazing
I wanted to see how he cut those corner pieces.
Some realy nice craftsmenship! Grandpa was a mason, remember when I was kid, he still use to do some smaller jobs like this, use to watch him bricklaying. Glad this pop up in my YT sugestions.
Thanks for watching igor
Stunning. That is ART! no doubts whatever..
Lovely work stu. It always surprises me what you can do with laying bricks and art design you can create
You can do anything with bricks and mortar Caroline
1.7 million views stu well done and what a fantastic job you did there.
I'm completely in awe of your skill!!
I think a hundred thousand views in one day says it all. Stunning.
Cheers Garry
Thank you Stu, very informative. Not many women will have a go I think. But I've got a few bricks to replace along the top of my wall. I'm going to have a go. Probably referring back to you throughout.
Fantastic! Really enjoy watching your build vids. The wall looks really good.
Very well done on showing the brick column cap installation starting at 8:03 good reference material ~
First, the perfect thumbnail of the cool cap got me interested. Then, 1.1 million views in 5 days wow! Only 10 mins, sure, I’ll watch.
Excellent camera work, pacing and editing. Videos, and many movies, usually fail at pacing. A lot happened in 10 minutes!
Wonderful workmanship and result.
Thanks buddy appreciate that feedback
Even a coach driver enjoyed watching this. Amazing stuff, makes me realise you have to know what your doing to build a wall
Good looking wall! Matches the house nicely, good retainer for the garden soil and has some real flair to it. Thanks for the video. Great work all round.
An absolute pleasure to watch plenty off work down under Trev
Why didn't you tie the stretcher course half bond into either pier? All you've got tying into the pier is about 1/3 of your header in the closure.
Also, you'll want to hack out a few perps on your bottom course to let the water through.
Stewart Rowlands he’s answered in a previous post to someone that the land behind is being receded back and said they will drill the holes out if need be
@@EnglishHeart1987 OK, I'll have a look for the answer there.
Its English bond, thats how its supposed to be i.e Quarter bond.
What a pleasure it is to watch a great craftsperson do a magnificent job.
I drive past this house daily, the wall looks even better in person.
Andrew Millard where is it
@@sanchojr England, the house is mine
Yeah make no mistake ppl this truly is top notch brick work! Lovely detail on piers easy option is to header soldier but love the mitres!!!
Taking back the pride to brick laying like they did in Victorian times
Exactly mate
Wow I like that detail on the little corner bricks ,looks cool and makes it stronger too, most brickies won't take the time, great job !
Looks really nice but that is one expensive wall.
Found your channel while on a break at college, where I'm doing carpentry. I love your videos-- If love to make a channel like yours when I go professional showcasing construction skills. 👍
Nice one jack
Why You set the wire from the two sides of the bricks?
To check each brick is horizontal front to back as well as along the row.
@@rebeccadonaldson1464 ok thanks, there is no need to use spirit level on each brick - great !
AMAZING!! Pure talent and craftmanship. Stu, you are the man, and Thank you for sharing all your videos, tips and inspiration.
