im glad lake oswego isn't private anymore. many Oregonians are paying taxes to maintenance that water yet they don't have access to it, its considered robbery for many locals. worst part is i live in the county lake oswego resides and because of their wealthy status, the rest of the county is rural and doesn't get benefits from them. Instead we get higher property taxes and little work done on rural roads and bridges

@@Krobra91 naming an entire city after a lake then making it a private experience, then being baffled when others try to make it on the lake never made sense.
Beaver Lake Estates in Oregon City, with a gated community, is a private HOA lake community I think makes a lot more sense.
Lower taxes and more down to earth people over there, too-generally speaking.

@@LivinginOregonandWashingtonit's also private property and not a public waterway connected to any major tributary.
So it's way diffrent then lake Oswego by miles... literally.

@@TonyMarselleYepp-to me Lake Oswego is like the idea of private beaches on Ocean, or like making Mt Hood private. Even Timberline can’t prevent someone from hiking up their slopes.
Talking to Lake O residents and realtors that ONLY work in Lake Oswego, I think because they are born and raised with the idea of the lake being private it makes sense to them.

We are moving back to PNW from Europe. Already have a house in Ridgefield but we need a bigger property for horses. Riverfront might be outside our budget, but please make more vids on that so I can send to my wife and figure out how to make this happen!

Getting a horse property next to river front may be tricky, but the Lewis River would have that! If you're willing to go to Brush Prairie area, or even outside the new construction sprawl of Ridgefield you'll find quite a few opportunities! Lmk, and stay tuned for a horse property video!

@@jamesbell8861 Fact is that when you have a city that spurs creatives it produces lasting value. If we can protect the creative mindset of Portland, while balancing tax burden with social support we could become the preeminent city.
So many people fail to see the positive side of Portland because they can’t see past a few politicians, it’s kinda sad.

@@LivinginOregonandWashington Fair enough ... I loved the entire 'Grunge Era'. I lived in Victoria BC and considered Portland and the entire Pacific Northwest my Stomping grounds (literally 100's of shows and venues) ... for the last 15 years (IMO) the whole place has deteriorated to where I do not recognize it anymore. True, the properties you are showing and the areas you showcase in this video have remained insulated ... but even the extremely wealthy are being deeply affected by the political toxicity and social decay. It really is sad. I hope that change is imminent. Also ... I apologise for the crass tone of my original comment. I appreciate you defusing it into a conversation.

@@jamesbell8861 No problem-I have similar frustrations at times, but we are also predisposed to seeing the “bleeds it leads” headlines. Which, to be fair is really the only way to get people to engage in order to have a deeper conversation.
Some of the headlines you see are at least in part based on people’s experiences and statistics.
Portland in 2021 was a fairly awful place to live, at least where I was located. But even then we found ways to make it good.
We moved 15 mins south and feel the night and day difference, but I think even the politicians are seeing normal sane people making the normal and sane choice of moving and realizing they won’t have any taxes to work with if they shit it all away.
I think the message has been heard widely that Portland sucks. What I am seeing now is the vast majority agreeing enough to actually do something about it, and I am not hearing as many stupid or half baked ideas and promises that happened between 2010-2020.

The river front homes on the WA side are gorgeous but you have that train right behind and it is loud and distracting and takes away from the beauty of the homes there. I wouldn't want to deal with that. I have been to visit a few of the homes and you hear the trains alot.

The lake Oswego public access, is only a sliver ( very tiny). The lake is gross too, there is a sewer line that runs through it. If I’m looking for a place to hang out by a lake, lake Oswego would be my last choice.

    • @LivinginOregonandWashington
      @LivinginOregonandWashington  2 місяці тому

@@TonyMarselle I wouldn’t go that far-the court of law overruled the lake being private but punishing someone for buying into something that was made private decades ago, when Lake O wasn’t as on the map, isn’t that fair. In the 80s there was enough space to throw a lake over to the wealthy and let ‘em recreate. Not that it was a well thought idea for long term.
I am no Lake O historian though so would be interesting for someone to dig through the archives. Used to be a heavy Iron mining area so it’s definitely changed.
I also haven’t ever lived on the lake. I could do a video interviewing residents their thoughts.
