    I toured the new development on the hill in Washougal a few weeks ago. It is nice, but they should have spaced out the properties a bit more and included swimming pools. There are ample opportunities to swim during the warmer months. April through October. That neighborhood is definitely safe and secluded, though. No zombies making their way up there.

    It's cool, but the neighborhoods encompassing the streets of Division, Hawthorne, Alberta, and Mississippi are more condensed. They have a higher concentration of shops and restaurants, and more foot traffic, especially during peak hours. Burnside dominates the Kerns neighborhood, and it's a monster of a street. They have recently built a ton of apartments in that area at the west end, so it's only going to grow. Honorable mention would be the Woodlawn neighborhood. It's an OG neighborhood with some flavorful bars and eateries on Dekum street. Check out one of the aforementioned hoods next!

    When people promote drug use, such as Oregon does, and aggressively takes aways peoples right and means to protect themselves, such as Oregon does (Washington is headed the same way), then post apocalyptic is what comes next. Hard to believe anyone would encourage anyone from Cal to move here because it all started there, and is moving here with the transplanted voters who wrecked Cal in the first place. Did they really think bringing thier laws here would end differently? Thats crazy. The very definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over expecting different results. @@LivinginOregonandWashington I get that. I live in western Washington. I call it the living land, because everything is alive including the ground I walk on. People ask me where I live, I tell them Narnia. Although I am very rural and my firearms are grandfathered I still see people struggling with home invasions, car jackings, and break ins regularly. I believe it is a lack of mental health care and much of the drug problems come from that same shortcoming. People used to be able to go to a mental health care facility and get help and meds. When all that started going away in the 80's and 90's the problems exploded. People started seeking street drugs to self medicate, and now its completely out of control. We have a mental health crisis a million times over what any gun problem could be. If law abiding citizens with guns were going to be a problem you would already know it. Fix the mental health system and 80% of our major problems would be nonexistent in a years time. I too, am going to stick it out, keep voting and keep speaking out. Something will give eventually. If I have to leave someday, it is what it is. Right now I am still in the fight to get someone with common sense into government. I can only hope.

To me the issues you speak to are also national level conversations, and the West Coast is much more Libertarian than Liberal in my experience. We still live in the wild west. To me the draconian stuff is happening in the mega cities-LA, New York (have military friends there), even big Texas cities. Oregon and Washington have too much nature to come after people-whether you’re a hippie that doesn’t want to vaccinate or a libertarian who believes in 2A there is a unity in the west unlike anywhere else I think people miss all the time as a hallmark of what it means to be Oregonian / Washingtonian.

      True Californians outbid homes and crowd the roads, but they also bring money with them. The entire Oregon economy is dependent on its scenery attracting outside investment. Nike and Intel pay penny taxes since the city council bends over backwards for them.

      Everyone says Portland was great in the 90s but that was when the last major crime wave hit Portland. We only broke a homicide record broke in the late 80s/early 90s in 2021 and we are already back below those levels. Portland was best in mid 2000s to early 2010s imo.

    The main problem in Portland are homeless drug addicts, many of whom are mentally ill, having more "rights" than taxpaying renters, homeowners, and business owners. That's "progressive politics" in action. Add high taxes and lots of crime, and you've got a city that no longer works. Portland has had 3 inept mayors in a row, our version of "The 3 Stooges". When will it end?

      Just based on the political maps, Portland is definitely the deepest blue, Washington is still very blue, Clark and Clackamas county are a very soft blue. However, Clackamas has some red areas in Canby to Estacada area. From my experience, clients right of center tend to move to those places. Places like Milwaukie, Oregon City and Clackamas proper are still very much down the center where you have neighbors from all political affiliations! I personally like the later, because it prevents echo chambers and prevents polarization. We are a democracy built on many ideas. Perhaps a next video idea? Thanks for commenting and watching.

If you don’t want to be around it, live in the middle of Montana, Wyoming, Kansas, Iowa, et. al. As to your point of bad Drivers, Tim, you haven’t seen anything until you drive in Florida. OMG picture it … Seniors with reduced reaction time and poor vision behind the wheel. Now mix in International Visitors that haven’t a clue about rules of the road and have very basic command of the English language (looking at you Miami 🤨) and then throw in Drivers who think the speed limit on I-95 is 95 mph and THAT’S why insurance costs are the most expensive in the Nation! No place is perfect. Perfect is what you make it to be for yourself. 😉

    • @LivinginOregonandWashington
      @LivinginOregonandWashington 27 днів тому

      @@ToughLuckStudio Atlanta has a property crime rate of 75.4 while Portland is at 72.3. Portland is also lower than USA average on violent crime, Atlanta is 2.5x worse. Portland’s property crime isn’t usually armed and is petty criminals/addicts. Phoenix has a violent crime rate nearly double the national average. Phoenix average home price is at $418,000-not far off Portland at $528,000. At 5:16 you will get an appreciation for why Portland is a relative bargain. We are far greener, have more moderate temperature, and will still have drinking water in 2040. The amount of people flocking to the sunbelt right now is absurd given they already had extremely tight water constraints in most areas. If we are going to compare lets at least do it away from whatever the headline news is telling you to think! At the end of the day, where you live is somewhat subjective and totally up to you-i’m just here to set the record straight for people who are genuinely interested in our city, Cheers and thanks for watching

    Man, I am not gonna lie. I am from Vancouver BC and many people here used to go to Portland twice a year to shop for luxury items and everyday essentials because we would save a ton of money doing so with the low sales taxes. But after covid, which led to high inflation and high interest rates and stronger USD, we don't save any money coming to shop in Portland. My last trip to Portland was shocking with the number of shops closing down and buildings destroyed in downtown Portland!!! But one day I really do hope to buy a property in Oregon on a beach front property overlooking Pacific Ocean.

    What a weird video. I was walking around downtown late at night last weekend, there was a live jazz show in the center of a perimeter of food trucks, all ages mingling. Old couples walking hand in hand, I had just missed a dance show two blocks from Red Square, which itself was peaceful. LOTS of people out walking around, some obviously homeless. Couples young and old sitting down by the river, a young family passing a baby carriage along, three young guys fishing. I saw one young woman doing that standing bent in half thing that is indicative of fentanyl use, so yeah that exists. She was standing near five or six tents in a small cluster. I walked ALL OVER downtown (used to live there and know my way around really well - now I'm out in Clackamas). Portland is a beautiful and very friendly city that is having the same difficulty with unhoused populations as everywhere else.
