I wonder if you can help me. I am knitting a hat for my granddaughter. I cast on 120 stitches. I decreased one stitch because my seed stitch was not coming out right in circular knitting so I have 119 stitches in my seed stitch in the round. From ear to crop my granddaughter measures 7". I don't know when to start decreases and how to divide 119 stitches evenly to be able to knit on DPN's. I knitted the brim with size 5 knitting circular needles. I am knitting the seed stitch with size 7" circular needles. For the crown, do I decrease the knitting needles and if, so to what size? I am not following a pattern and have a lot from. Watching your utube videos which are excellent. Please if you have time let me know when to reduce my stitches and by how much to keep the seed stitch pattern consistent throughout the hat. I used the Jog as I am knitting stripes and after 5 rows of seed stitch, I knit one row to do the jog before I start the 2nd row and start following the seed stitch again. Ever so Grateful to you for your help. I am not an advanced knitter.
This is a VERY helpful tutorial. I tried the 1st method because that was the one shown in many other videos, and had no luck with it solving the problem. Method 2, however, worked great for me. Definitely recommend that one.
I used the last one on a hat for a birthday gift. its so easy so awesome and its totally undetectable there was ever a jog in the colors. Thanks so much for this. its almost like magic.

This pattern is still a work in progress. I made this top with two strands of silk thread. This yarn is now discontinued, so I can't suggest it in the pattern. I'll find an alternative yarn and re-knit this top. Then I'll be able to put all instructions together. So many projects, so little time... :-)
Maryna, I am knitting striped tee in the round (broken rib) with increases on either side of the raglan sleeves. So to stay in pattern the beginning of the row switches between knits and purls. Consequently I end up having to change colors sometimes beginning with a purl stitch. I have seen all sorts of tutorials showing how to do jogless stripes with knit stitches but not changing color on a purl. How is the best way to do that and eliminate the jog? Is slipping the first stitch the easiest and cleanest way? I hope this makes sense…
Hi Marcie! Yes, slipping the first stitch is a good way to avoid the jog, but from my experience, the jog doesn't show that much if the colour changes between a knit and a purl. So it is quite possible that you don't need to worry about jogs at all. The rich texture of a multi-coloured broken rib will conceal all small imperfections. Good luck :-)

I am ready to start my ribbing on the hem of the broken rib sweater that starts with a purl. For the ribbing, the designer says to it in a K1P1 ribbing and then do an Italian bind off. I have no problem with that but if I start with a Knit then the body won’t flow into the ribbing which started with a Purl. So my question is, should I do the ribbing in a P1K1 instead of K1P1 so the knits match up and then since it is in the round, just start the Italian bind off on the first knit stitch in the bind off round? I’ll end up finishing with a purl which was really the first stitch in the bind off round. I hope this makes sense.

Thank you so much! Does this also apply if you use one coloured stripes? I want to knit a sweater with one coloured stripes, using 9 different colours, so i can't take all yarns with me in the back, and i tried method 2, but still get those lines not connected, there s a big gap between needle 1 and needle 2 (knitting in the round with magic loop). Sorry to bother you, but i have searched everywhere and can only find info about 2 different colours and more than two stripes in one colour, thanks 🌸
You are right - these ways to make jogless stripes are only good for 2+ row / round stripes. The best way to work one round stripes is to use helix technique, the tutorial is at www.10rowsaday.com/helix-knitting Have fun :-)

Which way is best for 2 row stripes? I see most methods are recommended for 3+ row stripes whereas helix is good for 1 row striping. But what about the in between?

@@10rowsaday Oh, sorry. I meant that it would work to correct the color change jog in self-patterning yarn.
@@joan9569 Self-patterning yarns are dyed in a certain way to make sure the design appears when you work on a certain number of stitches. If the number of stitches is off, the pattern won't appear. The only thing to fix this issue is to change the number of stitches. Happy knitting :-)

Hi Lesa, It is quite tricky to make invisible decreases in seed stitch. You could work the crown of the hat in stockinette stitch and scatter decreases so that they do not form decreasing lines. Otherwise, the decreases will show on the seed stitch background. Scattering decreases involves a bit of math. It is always easier to find a pattern for a design similar to what you have in mind and follow the pattern. There are lots of hat patterns on Ravelry (here's the link - www.ravelry.com/patterns). It is very probable that you will find the one you like. Happy knitting :-)
@@10rowsaday I wish I could show you my finished hat. I used DPN for crown of hat and it came out wonderful. My own pattern. Thank you for help. I truly appreciate you. Hard to learn when I had noone teaching me and I learned from utube. So Grateful to you.
There was a hat I saw and it was called "The Madison Hat. There was a particular color of yarn in the hat that I loved. The colors were Pink, green , off white. I wish I could include the photo. I was so hoping you could help me with the name of the yarn. Praying you can help. Thank you.
Hello Lesa. The yarn is usually mentioned in the pattern. If you have a pattern or, at least, know who designed this hat, you can find the name of the yarn from them. Good luck :-)
I am having a LOT of difficulty in using 24" #10 circular needles. I want to make an adult hat using regular (4) weight yarn. I do not know how to use the 24" needles. My stitches are spread out over the long cord and I cannot join in the round because there is too much space between the beginning stitch and the last stitch. How in the world is this done?
I use the continental method of knitting and would really like to see a tutorial on how to use larger circular needles (24") for a hat that normally asks for 16" needles. Can you help? thanks.
You don't have to use 24" needles if they seem too long for the number of stitches you have on the needles. Use any other way to work in the round - double-pointed needles, shorter circular needle or a longer circular needle and the magic loop technique. Happy knitting :-)
@@10rowsaday Gosh, I KNOW I don't have to use 24" needles. I want to use them because shorter needles are too tight with the stitches. I am asking HOW to use longer needles while making an adult hat. I do not know how to use double pointed needles. Thanks for getting back to me
