    Nice work again! I'm gonna stick with the Vader 3 Pro for now, probably, but some of these features are definitely impressive. For other folks reading, though - if you like the sound of this controller but don't need *quite* as many top tier features, the Vader 3 Pro has the hall effect sticks, the mechanical buttons, the sweet d-pad, the back paddles, and the software, pretty much all it's lacking is the adjustable stick tension and the pressure-adaptive triggers (though it does have a neat feature this one doesn't, which is that you can switch the triggers from analog to digital and back again, great if you're also going to pair it with a Switch, which has digital triggers anyhow), and costs a fair bit less than the Apex 4. Either way, Flydigi's doing a bang up job out there.

    The adaptive triggers on this can actually work as the Dual Sense.
    Under the trigger tab in the Flydigi software there is a list of games with a "Dual Sense" button. If you boot your games from that launcher it's gonna emulate the DS experience. But Flydigi has to add games to this list manually with updates, so if you want the feature working from day 1 when a new game drops, then you indeed need a Dual Sense on hand.

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  3 місяці тому

      Right, I unfortunately didn't get it to work myself on the one game I tested (Dying Light 2), I will try it again mind you. It's not as seamless but I don't hold it against Flydigi, I totally get why that is. I find it impressive that they even have that feature to begin with. Mind if I ask you what games have you tested it on? And would you say it works as great as the native Dualsense stuff? Cheers

    how good is adjusting dead zones for joysticks? i play a game and i rather use a controller than keyboard and mouse but the game requires precise joystick moments. the controller i use now its deadzone and the joysticks kinda suck, for one the joystick is stiff so trying to lightly move it i have to put alot of pressure which overshoots my movement at times.

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  Місяць тому

      It's very good. The best in fact because you have a mix of both deadzone adjustments but also resistance tweaking that is hardware based, all that on hall-sensing tech. This way you can have a very "loose" stick on the left because it's basic movements, but have a much stiffer stick on the right with lower deadzones specifically for precise camera movements. As it stands, there is no better option in terms of customization for PC. That includes the super elite controllers from first party and licensed third party solutions.
      Last, the Apex 4 does more than those for half the price. It's a no brainer if you want the pinnacle of customization elite style controller.

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  2 місяці тому

      That's a great question and one for which I actually had to go test for. So safe to say it's on the PC where the software is installed only. When connecting over bluetooth, it gives you two options: native or mapping, and while mapping preserves some on-board memory settings, keyboard inputs do not carry over. Tested on iOS, on Android and on another PC. Cheers!

    I just came over from the Mamba review. It's funny; I went from not knowing that screens in a controller were a thing (Dreamcast VMUs and that one Hyperkin remake of the Xbox Duke excluded) to seeing two in one evening. This is an innovation I can get behind.
    Have you heard of the Rick Astley Paradox? If you ask him to borrow his DVD copy of everyone's favorite Pixar movie that stars a crotchety old man and a talking dog he won't let you. do you know if there's an option to have trigger vibration (like on the xbox controllers) for all games or does it just do trigger vibration when adaptive triggers are compatible for a game?

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  Місяць тому

      It does not do either of them. Most controllers that work for PC are on the older protocol of Microsoft's X-Input and I may be wrong but I don't believe that "non-licensed" controllers have "hacked" into the One/Series layer which adds the rumble mapping for triggers. That's why, as far as I know, any controller that actually have triggers vibrating are either Microsoft's or officially licensed Microsoft's alternatives (that supports that feature). It's basically the same situation with the Dualsense controller. The Apex uses "spoofing" methods which rely on Xbox 360 protocol, but they also have Nintendo's Switch Pro protocol. So by not having Dualsense's proper protocol, they do not have adaptive trigger mapping, but the controller does have the technology, you just have to set it yourself.
      It's a cool feature but the compatibility in-games is greatly reduced and also community based solutions.
      If trigger rumble is important for you, I'd recommend looking into Gamesir's G7se or Kaleid for Xbox or Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra for Xbox. Cheers!

    @devast8r3436 2 місяці тому

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  2 місяці тому

      I hardly play on my Series X and so, an Xbox controller is not something I necessarily need but if I was a controller player on FPSes, I'd see the value in the Stealth Ultra, mainly due to the Superhuman hearing feature but also, that it has proper hair triggers. I'm more of a PC indie games kind of guy, that's why since reviewing it, my go-to by default is the Apex 4, I don't see that changing but who's to say what next controller will knock at my door.
      Saw a photo of the paddle replacements on Reddit, looks cool! I'd try it if I could get my hands on them but I don't think the controller necessarily needs them, at least for my own take on the ergonomics. Cheers!

      So Android is starting to see some vibration, depends what you play but it's not part of Android natively, since 12 if I recall. With that said, it's still not widely adopted. It's definitely good for phone, especially if you get the mount. For PS3, I don't think it's compatible unless you use a dongle that would spoof the controller. Maybe an 8BitDo dongle might work?

      There is no reason why it can’t be feasible, the amount of work required may differ but logically speaking on this one, you could probably just remove the faceplate and cut the metal rod. That would already be a good chunk to of weight shaved off but opening it and removing the motor would be of greater impact. There may be de-soldering involved, in fact, pretty certain it’ll be necessary.

    Hey man great video! 2 questions for you. What does the multifunction remapping allow you to do? And also does the macro function record exact joystick movements? Or just full presses of buttons and 100% deflection of a stick in a direction?

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  2 місяці тому

      The multifonction remapping which effectively is macro let's you record up to 64 inputs and between each input, you can set/adjust the timing and it will also be recorded when you set it. That feature also works with keyboard, not just the controller itself. As for sticks movement, it does but it is not the entire 360 degrees, it locks to 8-directions, which I have never seen a macro tool do any better to be honest so I wouldn't take anything away from the Apex 4, that's industry standard pretty much. If you have anymore questions, don't hesitate! :)

    • @MrDoordude125
      @MrDoordude125 2 місяці тому

      @@GameTechTalk I understand there is a macro function on the remapping tab but I’m asking what the “multifunction” tab under that is for? There is 4 options: remap, turbo, macro, and multifunction.
      Also if I choose to pick up on the left joystick while creating a macro will it actually know how much deflection I put on my still while recording? Or is it just 100 percent deflection based on the amount of time I set it for?

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  2 місяці тому

      @@MrDoordude125I just re-read myself and clearly I was having a "brain checked-out" moment when I responded 😅, my bad! So multifunction is actually to map mouse keys to your buttons, just that. And also, for macros, you can't macro your keyboard keys, not can, again my bad. But you can map buttons and make commands by hitting multiple keys like say Alt+Tab. Cheers!

    • @MrDoordude125
      @MrDoordude125 2 місяці тому

      @@GameTechTalk thanks that answered one question. But the second question about the macro recording exactly joystick deflections ? Like can you choose how much deflection in the upward direction? Or is it just 100 percent deflection based on a length of time you can pick ?

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  2 місяці тому

      @@MrDoordude125 It's 0 to 100%, no in-between. Basically, think that while yeah, it'll register the sticks, it will translate the readings to something more akin to d-pad push (though it will register as the sticks).
      It'd be great to have something so granular built-in in software but I don't recall having seen that outside of complex AutoHotkey scripts or an old school software called xPadder (if I recall). Cheers!

    I have a question, I see in all the reviews the input latency being praised of this controller, but on the gamepadle website, the cable latency for the flydigi apex4 appears to be twice as high as the dual sense. Is this correct? What are your thoughts on that? Because when I see youtubers testing with xinput, the flydigi apex4 scores better every time?

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  Місяць тому

      Apex 4 and Dualsense Edge poll about the same. When overclocked so does the regular Dualsense. As much as I will praise the Apex 4, I do question the legitimacy of the prioprietary app for benchmarking and in my opinion, the numbers there are inflated to look just a smidge better than the actual numbers. It doesn’t take much away if at all but to claim it is higher than Dualsense is putting very specific parameters to showcase that as being factual when it can also be very easily addressed.

    • @TriszSZN
      @TriszSZN Місяць тому

      @@GameTechTalk Hm okay, but what is your thoughts then on the fact that the latency on gamepadla is twice as high for the apex4 compared to the dual sense?

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  Місяць тому +1

      @@TriszSZN Basically that there are too many variables in play. While yes, you can take numbers as an overall indicator, you can’t fully consider them if they are not each tested following the exact same parameters. To be more technical, the numbers can only matter if every controllers are tested in the exact same environment, using the exact same methodology. While that set of numbers won’t necessarily represent the entire market, they at least will showcase the “variability factor”. With that said, I can tell you that the Apex 4 gave me ever so slightly less latency then the Dualsense Edge. Not enough to matter, not enough to say the Apex 4 is “better” even though the numbers technically are.
      Last, if you overclock past 1000hz, you also decrease latency, but you introduce way more jitter and misreads. So if you see Dualsense latency being 0.5ms or around (maybe even less), that’s basically an overclocked Dualsense that will suffer from other problems because of it. Singled out, any number can look good. I hope this helps, cheers!

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  Місяць тому +1

      I did, all was fine. Now keep in mind, the trigger rumble that you get from the regular Xbox controller, I don't believe that works on the Apex 4. That's an Xbox specific feature. The technology that the Apex 4 has in the triggers is not the same. Also, the adaptive triggers do not work in conjunction to what happens in game, at least not by default, that's a feature that is community driven, some games are supported, many aren't. If you haven't downloaded the PC software, I strongly encourage that you do, it'll give you a better overall view of what's possible and what's not. Cheers!

      @@Henrique-wv9xq Neither or. The behavior of those triggers are on a different "haptic data" than the ones on the Xbox controller and while the technology is the same as Dualsense, they don't have access to Sony's proprietary "haptic data". So in other words, you need to set it up yourself or use some of the community based adaptive trigger integrations.
      Maybe there is a software out there to utilise them to tap into the Dualsense haptic feedback from Sony's but if there is, I'm not aware of such a software's existence. Also, keep in mind the rumble of the controller itself is rotary motors, not "HD rumble" like what the actual dualsense has.

    so should I get this if I already use an overclocked dualense edge?

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  2 місяці тому +1

      Honestly? Not really. You're not missing out with the Edge, arguably overclocking it is overkill too. The dev of the software said himself that going past 1000mhz is pointless and can introduce issues so he removed it in an updated software version. But yeah, the features you'd get from the Apex 4 over the Edge are not necessary enough to warrant the purchase. With that said, if you need say a stupidly powerful Switch controller, or a mobile phone controller? Yeah, bringing the Apex 4 into your life would also be a great solution.
      I go back and forth between Edge and Apex 4 for PC, only controllers that I keep next to it and if they were the same price, I wouldn't know which to pick cause I like rumble so much and the Edge just is better for that. For everything else? Apex 4, but not by a lot.
