      @@darwinesguerra8883 It does, much like Mantis Gamepad Pro, the compatibility may vary at times but GameSir app has a thing called G-Touch that is part of their software which basically does the same thing, it lets you remap buttons to "on-screen mapping". Do keep in mind that is for Android only, which I'm sure you are using since your mentioned Mantis but to prevent confusion, this wouldn't work on iOS.

    17:37 The OG G8 must run cables through the center stem too otherwise keys on the left side won't register. I read about them using the springs as the cables, which is very clever, the G8+ might use the same trick.

    Great video! What would be reasons for picking the G8 over the G8+ for an Android user with a USB-C phone? Does having the USB-C connection on the G8 provide any benefits over the bluetooth?

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  Місяць тому +3

      The two and exclusive benefits are: No battery needed and the 3.5mm jack. Everything else is better on the G8+, including the polling rate, aka overall latency performance. That is DESPITE being used mainly through bluetooth... So the reasons... There aren't many, if the two I listed speak to you, then you know your answer. If they don't, G8+ without question.

    @expectafight Місяць тому

    The issue with a lot of people now is about form factors. If you have a book style foldable, like the Galaxy Fold, you would want a USB C controller with the port on the left. Bluetooth only does introduce more input lag. It's taking way too long to get a telescopic controller with USB C on the left and hall effect triggers. It's annoying and I'm also surprised that more tech blogs and UA-cam commenters don't talk about it (I also used to write for tech blogs so this hits differently for me).

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  Місяць тому

      Arguably, the X2s is there so GameSir did make an effort where many haven't. Would I wish for a G8s with the connector to the left, most definitely but performance would hav e to be addressed. Knowing GameSir, I'm sure they would. With that said, and I know this is going to sound crazy but I assure you, I benchmarked to be able to tell you this much, the G8+ has lower latency than the G8 wired. Now sure, it has a bit more jitter because it is wireless after all but we are comparing 125hz (G8 every modes) versus 500hz (G8+ on some modes). So we are moving from an 8ms to 2ms average. Even if you get 2.5ms with jitter coming into account on the G8+, you still have considerably superior latency performance.
      And dare I say, it's been noticeable, I've been gaming with this thing basically non-stop since I've reviewed it. It's the real deal.

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  Місяць тому

      Yeah I think a lot of people would like to see that, I included but to their defense, Foldables are also not stabilized as a market so while I still think it would be better, it probably wouldn't be perfect still. @@GameTechTalk Yeah, making a controller specifically for foldable phones might be a not so good idea right now. Great review, Gamesir Galileo G8 was my first ever telescopic controller and probably my last. The black is a nice touch and the buttons being interchangeable is nice too, but it's not enough to make me purchase another one. The rumble feature sounds like a cool feature but I'm sure in practice the shaking screen would be annoying and would be an irrelevant feature as it would be turned off, also the device would have to be charged. If it served as a "Power Bank" as well then I probably would probably replace my G8. Accessories would be awesome like interchangeable faceplates and buttons like you said, but some of these companies make a lot of money for having exclusive colors for certain products. ExtremRate should get on it.

    This was an outstanding review. I wish everyone would review everything as well as you review tech. A few short thoughts:
    1) It's weird that your RedMagic isn't playing nice with GameSir's G-Touch. RedMagic's first party "Shadow Blade" controllers are simply rebranded GameSir units; the original was an X2 Pro while their newest is the G8 Galileo. I don't own a RedMagic phone or controller so I'm curious if GameSir branded controllers will play nice with RedMagic's own screen mapping solution?
    2) When it comes to Xbox mode, my GameSir T4 Nova Lite works, or doesn't work depending on your POV, the same way. Instead of using Bluetooth for X-input, it ships with a 2.4 GHz dongle in the case. I think it can do wired X-input as well; but, I haven't had a reason to try that so don't quote me.
    3) Yay, magnetic button caps! I legitimately really like those on my X2 Pro. Unfortunately, we never got any custom caps for them. Unless we did and I'm just terrible at Googling. Hopefully the ones on the G8+ are interchangeable with the ones on the X2 Pro so that the combined sales totals of both controllers will be high enough to make developing custom caps attractive to trusted outfits like Sakura.

      Hey Matt, before I address this comment, I'd like to address the one on the E6 Plus video. I did end up seeing the comment but hadn't had time to respond quickly enough. I want you to know that you did not do anything wrong. You genuinely, and sincerely, inspired me to do better, and you did it in a very honorable way.
      I get people can get defensive when offered feedback but to me, constructive criticism? It's always received with open arms because I understand it ALWAYS comes from a place of caring, one way or another.
      You provided me with feedback but not only that, you presented it in a way that allowed me to find the clarity and wisdom you shared without feeling attacked.
      I appreciated that comment, you gave a lot with it and to make sure so please know you did not say anything wrong, quite the opposite in fact. That comment made me understand this: You Care. I can't be thankful enough for that. And I owe it to you and everyone else doing the same that I care too. Thank you Matt.
      Back to this comment now! Thank you for the kind words! I think the issue does not stem so much from the hardware when looking at both Galileo controllers, but rather that RedMagic phones already come with their "root enabled" mapping software, whereas GameSir's does not have that and probably comes in conflict. That would be my guess.
      Nova Lite does go X-Input wired but from souvenir, you can still swap modes with the shortcut.
      As for X2 Pro, turns out I have this controller too, I just never reviewed it (I was on break back then) but I was able to test it and unfortunately it does not work. The notches are not positioned the same, the depth of the buttons are also different. That would've been so cool though!
      I would LOVE for Sakura mods to do compatible buttons, I'd be all over those!!

      @@GameTechTalk - Thank you for the reply and the effort you put into it. Also, thank you for testing if the X2 Pro's buttons fit on the G8+. It's a shame they don't interchange. Hopefully this controller sells well enough on its own to encourage third parties to make custom buttons.
      PlayStation icons would look sick on this. Or PC Engine (TurboGrafx-16) style Roman numerals. Years ago Samsung tried to get a foothold in mobile gaming with a phone controller they called the GP-20. I loved the face buttons on it. Instead of letters, symbols, or numerals the used "domino dots". I think they're called pips, like Gladys Knight's backup singers, but don't quote me on that. It was super classy and got the job done without being derivative of some other company's buttons. I wish someone else would roll with that style of button cap, but, no-one has that I'm aware of.

      @@zero2006xl No no, not at all, what I meant is that when GameSir came out with a product, there was proof out in the wild that Razer was also back on the drawing board to update their Kishi V2 line (I talk about it in my Galileo G8 original review). That controller I'm referring to somehow was found in a thrift shop and eventually was shipped to Retro Handhelds.
      So I'm giving Razer credit in the sense that they were already hard at work on a redesign, at this point, it's starting to become shameful that Backbone still doesn't, as an example. I believe the G8 is probably one of the most, if not THE MOST, influential product in this telescopic controller space, as is Backbone.

      I assure you, it's there. I benched it. BUT, it isn't there on wireless, or should I say, it is there but it refuses to connect. On wired however, it works, I kid you not. Now, there is a chance that a future upgrade would remove that? But if so, I was not given any heads up that this wasn't supposed to make it in the retail version. But even if you look at the moment I use it wired on the Switch and hold minus and plus sign? The green LED, that's X-Input mode. And you can see also in the benchmark slide near the end, check 20:22 and you see that column that is called "Mode", I can't set that manually, that's automated by the software and it reported that mode as X-Input.

    I had the normal G8 or a brief period of time and loved it. I recently decided to make my phone my new portable gaming device so I looked into it again and saw the plus was available... Which in turn brought me here.
    I'm a big wired guy. I'm out of the house pretty often and don't like needing the manage battery on all of my peripherals. (Headphones / earbuds, phone, AND controller) So the plus is definitely not for me. I loved how the original G8 had a headphone jack and could charge my phone from the controller's usb-c port at the bottom.
    My only complaint about the G8... The colors... I appreciate the SNES color scheme as it's my favorite console of all time, but not as a device like this. If there was some way I could get the original in black that would be amazing.
    None of the new features in the Plus will do anything for me as I only use my phone for this.. in fact it's worse because a few of the features I liked are gone.

    the g8 was done dirty by the lack of app support especially on iPhone. usb c connection will always beat bluetooth.

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  Місяць тому

      "USB-C will always beat bluetooth" absolutely... when fighting pound for pound. The G8+ is not on the same level performance-wise. Controllers with higher polling rates are just starting to come out in the telescopic controller market. A 125hz USB-C will win over a 125hz Bluetooth... In every single scenario.
      But a 250hz Bluetooth is likely to trump over a 125hz USB-C.
      The G8 is 125hz. The G8+ is 500hz compatible.
      That should be the math right there. For every 4 times that the G8+ speaks to your phone, the G8 does it only once. So even if during those 4 times, the G8+ has occasional jitter, it'll still get the info out on the next polling well before the G8 did a full cycle.
      I get that for years, we experienced bluetooth being trash full of latency against wired, but until we have a G8 wired that can do 500hz, or better yet, 1000hz, the G8+ simply will be able to outperform the G8 and that's facts.

      @GameTechTalk  Місяць тому

      Very fast in "from China" standards. I've always had very quick shipping from GameSir and I'm not talking from the "I'm a creator" perspective, I'm talking me making my own purchases, it's never been more than a week but most times, we're talking 3-4 days.
      It's not Amazon 1-day fast, but honestly, seeing how successful the G8 was, I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon stocked in their factories. It's definitely a high-profile item and both GameSir and Amazon knows it, I would hope they prepared accordingly.

    Can you take it apart?
    Why does it show battery % for left and right?
    Is it like the Aileron?

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  Місяць тому

      So after having posted the video, I noticed from GameSir's own spec sheet that indeed, they have intentionally designed it with two batteries of 500mAh on each side, which so happens to be what joycons often have on each side too. It doesn't detach like the Aileron does though, it really is one single unit. So my educated guess is, there is a power wire to daisy chain the batteries so that the single USB-C charge both simultaneously. And the coils still handle the data like on regular G8.
      It can be taken apart but trying to mod it will require extra effort on the power wire. Probably a very simple soldering job on each end, the reason why I won't do mine is, installing a longer wire will cause problems if I want to use the controller in "regular width" mode with a now extended cable to adapt to tablets. There might be enough room in the shells to tuck that extra cable but without a system to prevent streneous tension over time, this is a design waiting to fail. I hope this answers the questions you may have and keep 'em coming, happy to help!

    I have an iPad Mini 6G and could not decide on the Razer Kishi Ultra or Gamesir G8+ so I just ordered both then will decide and send one of them back when they arrive. Which one do you think I will keep?
    I retro game and an advantage of the G8+ for me is tate mode (vertical). The advantage of Razer is the USB-C passthrough so I would only need to charge the just the iPad versus iPad+controller.
    I prefer look of the Razer (black versus charcoal) and the Series X style thumbsticks but the hot swappable hall effect thumbsticks of the m8+ are likely to be better.

      I think the G8+ will win it. For me the Kishi Ultra is second in line but still had cons versus the G8. The G8+ pretty much fixed everything AND added on top. Still the Kishi Ultra retains a few advantages over it, but the G8+ greatly pushes the envelope forward and one thing they both had over the Ultra is ergonomic and overall feel. At least for me but that can indeed be subjective.

      @@GameTechTalk G8+ and Kishi Ultra arrived today. You were absolutely correct: The Kishi is getting returned and I'm keeping the G8+ :)
      I do not like the tactile ABXY buttons, feel of d-pad or ergonomics of the Kish Ultra. The plastic feels hollow and light in comparison. The G8+ wins hands-down is terms of ergonomics, build quality plus the spring is stronger and grips the devices more securely due to the wider "bar". The thumbsticks, d-pad, buttons and triggers all feel nicer and better quality as well on the G8+.
      I spent a couple of days while waiting for them to arrive prepping my iPad with roms, playlists, thumbnails etc for Retroarch. However the iPad Mini with the controller feels a little heavy /big /unbalanced :) Maybe I am not just need more time with it.
      My iPhone 15 Pro feels more balanced but display is too small so I dug out my Samsung A34 5G with its 6.6" display. I think this may be the sweet spot plus I was pleasantly surprised to see that Retroarch has better core support on Andorid versus iOS.

    I have been a little hesitant with these controllers because of the camera on phones. Like, would the phone be tilted because of the camera. Like the s21 or s22? One other question, is the yellow LED noticeable on android? That bright yellow looks very distrating or can you just turn it off.

    • @GameTechTalk
      @GameTechTalk  Місяць тому

      GameSir really designed this cleverly, when opening the controller, it opens up a space for camera bumps to really "sink" into. I can't speak on the compatibility of every single phone there is but if you were to not have a flawless socketing experience, you would be able to easily address that with an insert to make that dip wider to accomodate all types of camera bumps. And by insert, it literally could be a small rectangle of packing foam that you put between the controller and your phone, no need to be fancy. I hope this helps, cheers!

      Amazing! At 20:02 what you see on average column? So that's 2ms on Switch mode average, that is IMPECCABLE performance. It's bluetooth so you do have the occasional jitter which explains the all time highest recorded of 22ms but that is basically unimpactful as the polling rate is 500hz and more of an anomaly that happens every now and then (but can't be felt due to overall performance). It speaks at record times to the device to be honest.

    I don't understand why so little attention is paid to the 3.5 connector on such devices.
    Does everyone really play at home when no one is around?
    Maybe I don’t know something, are there any ways to play with headphones (on an airplane, train, subway, taxi, in line at a government office, just on a bench in the park)?
    Of course, I tried bluetooth, different options, but everywhere there is a serious delay from 50 to 100ms. The best results were with oppo earbuds pro in game mode, but there was still a lag and it was very noticeable.

      @@You2Ber42 I get what you're saying but I also must come forward and say that it isn't always the case. The problem that I've experienced personally is the inconsistency and from that specific angle, I can agree. The thing is, much like wi-fi, much like AM/FM, Bluetooth also operates in different ranges.
      Sometimes you'll have 1:1 parity versus wired and sometimes? It's gonna jump, it's gonna stutter, it's gonna this, gonna that.
      I might just have struck luck lately because my performances have been stellar except with one specific device, the Apple AirPods Pro 2, if I try to use them in my basement where all my hardware is, forget it, it's abysmal. But for everything else in that room, it's been squeaky clean. With that said, I could eventually use my controller at a friends house and run into interference galore, that's just the reality of relying on wireless signals.
