- Hi! really busy with class rn haha, but jay posted this snippet a while back and decided to take a crack at it tonight to destress (and to figure out how animating him with a beard will be like)(very painful)
This is the only time I ever gave them faces and its just because they die in 30 seconds HAHA
fun odyssey fact: a lot of the suitors are Telemachus' age or maybe a little bit older because they're essentially the noblemen left after Odysseus and his men went to war. So these were the children born after or the kids who weren't old enough to fight (or the elderly who were too old I guess?) (barring some visitors from other countries, whose age range vary)
So when he does kill the suitors, the very angry fathers and uncles and whatnot form a mob to seek vengeance before athena gives him plot armor and decides that maybe its time he stops dealing with the consequences of his actions

I love Odysseus' transition from wringing his hands over bloodshed into finally coming home and seeing what is basically an occupying army harassing his wife, and concluding "you know what? A little more bloodshed actually."
Athena called it. "You want more bloodshed then set him free. He gets back to his homestead, he'll make everybody bleed"

I'm excited to see how Antinous faces his death. I'm betting it involves begging for mercy.
For real though, the suitors are basically the only characters other than Poseidon who I have no sympathy for. So I doubt Odysseus will either.

I really like how the first guy kinda looks like a younger Odysseus, it feels symbolic of how, before, Odysseus has been the one to fight the boss battles, but now HE'S the boss battle, y'know? I dont know if it was intentional but i really like that representation of the role reversal here

@@dbanshee276 it's from the demo snippet-- Jay is singing all the parts. It'll probably be different VAs in the final version (or at least with some voice altering stuff like with Zeus or the winions; pretty sure Jay also voices them).
I love the people’s expressions in this animatic. Especially the small drops of sweat. It shows how scared, off guard, unready and nervous they are because of the king.
Also, the mysterious character showing up, and striking that killer smile in the end is the icing on the cake.
Sheer perfection.
That mysterious character is Odysseus from Homer’s Odyssey. The audio’s from a musical being written about it!

I literally yelled out loud at this line! And god, the way you animated his expression while saying it - the look of someone who's THIS close to having his family back, and doesn't care what he has to do to make it so. To be fair, couldn't have happened to nicer people. That killer smile....

I really like the fact that in this song we clearly see the transformation of Odysseus, from a mercyful person to a rough "monster", and that here it is especially well drawn, we see in his eyes that he's just had enough and like Poseidon he's got "no mercy left to give"
First of all, I love how badass odysseus is in this one. Like he has done the journey HE IS DONE and like okay imma fight these mfs, ain't nothing holding me back. And the way you drew this is amazing! I especially love the part at 0:12, where the one suitor pushes the toher against the column like: Pull yourself together man! Stay focused! So amazingly done I'm just ahhhh
OKELDMEDOWNFIE, Odysseus smile with the hitting line, jut hits harder, he looks so menacing, and he’s doing barely anything, these poor suitors, they have no idea what they’re into, or maybe they know.
It’s amazing to see Odysseus fighting against humans, it makes us see the perspective of how much he’s been into, Odysseus is a monster that was created after fighting against monsters and Gods.
All i need - is a full "Warrior Of The Mind", "Dangerous" and "Charibdis", after that i can die with peace. Dude, your animatics for Epic: The Musical are straigt up supperior, design of characters, jeneral vibe, faces and expressions - all of that are top tier!

I love how this whole time, the suitors have been like “oh yes, I am big man”, but here, they’re clearly terrified; they *know* how royally (no pun intended) fucked they are.
That last bit was fantastic. It really conveys how absolutely done with everyone’s bullshit and out for blood Odysseus is at this point. Major kudos!

All the culmination of his experience doing horrible things, watching his men die, and suffering the wrath of monsters and gods, Odysseus takes out his frustrations on the bastards trying to take his wife and kingdom.

I love that he gets the repeated name motif here, much like other songs sung by the gods.
it truly shows how powerful he has become. He journeyed all alone, outran Poseidon, overcame gods and monsters to get home.
and it shows just how powerful he's become when he's put up against these mortal men. He is exactly like a god.

I love this song so much. The way that the back-ground chant of 'Odysseus' echos the same underlaying chant of the monsters name of 'polyphemus' in survive, the franticness of the suitors, the way after so long fighting and bargaining with monsters and inhuman entities, doing whatever it took to get home, Odysseus, now that he is home, is the monster in a way, mercilessly slaughtering the interlopers in his home. And you did such a good job with the art, truly making us feel the panic and desperation of the suitors and the righteous fury of Odysseus.

I'm just fucking living for him being the monster in the dark. Him just popping out of the shadows with this feral-ass smile on his face, TERRIFYING, oh my god. And him taking Poseidon's advice, ruthlessness if mercy upon yourself indeed, DAMN. He's learned from his mistakes and his enemies both, and he's not taking any chances, not reliving his mistakes, not giving them a chance to retaliate, he's making sure they know they done fucked up, and then taking them OUT, no mercy, no second chances, nothing less than the absolute sum of his experiences in his journey.
I love how the suitors start thinking that they can take Ody and then he appears out of the shadows like, “Surprise!” 👍👍👍👍👍

The comparison of 0:09 where the suitor leaves the room in mortal terror while being swallowed by the shadows vs 0:29 where Odysseus emerges from the shadows like the darkness is a cloak he wields and just!!
