I loved my time in both Tennessee and Kentucky all-state Baptist choirs.

I sang this in 7th grade choir as well as in 9th grade, once as in SSA and once as SATB and we did, "We are marching in the light of God," but it's the basically same thing and we also did the claps. This made me so reminiscent of those choir days because this was one of my favorite songs I ever sung with a choir. The tone and diction of this choir is impeccable!

Dear Natasha Fuller: Um, they are singing THE words to the song. It is an African freedom song and they are performing the authentic Zulu lyrics. Marching in the Light of God is the added English second verse. And, based on the title, it is being performed at the First Baptist Church in Jackson, MS.

Yeah... could have left out the like 3 extra verses saying basically the same thing... and losing the clapping would have helped... and yes, the words are "we are marching in the light of God" and there really wasn't a need to change them, but not bad.
I don't really feel a need to comment on the mega church as they are rediculous in ANY circumstance.

Sorry, all-white choir in megachurch-how ironic is that? Also, they have not improved on the original words.

Why would they "improve" on the lyrics?? Lyrics aren't to be changed. Ever. If you want different words, then write a new song. Oh my.

I could see minor changes for artistic or other good reason, but they took a very simple and universal song and made it fit their religion more. Also, in the state of Mississippi is there truly not one African American child who can sing ? Obviously not, so this is likely a 100% segregated church. And before anyone points out the existence of black churches, I have been to some of those churches and I was made to feel very welcome. Sunday morning is the most segregated time in America-there is something really wrong with that.

I shall do my best to enlighten you because I assume that you know nothing about this choir or the church, itself. The choir and orchestra is called the Mississippi Baptist All State Youth Choir and Orchestra. Youth in Southern Baptist churches across the state of Mississippi have an opportunity to audition for this prestigious choir and orchestra. It's quite an honor to be in it actually. Here is a link of the MBASYCO webpage for you to educate yourself on the organization: www.mbcb.org/church_growth/cm/allstate/
Finally, I will enlighten you about the church in which this choir is performing. It is the historic First Baptist Church of Jackson, Mississippi, the flagship church of the Mississippi Baptists. The church has a massive congregation, majority are white; however, there are members of all ethnicity and race at First Baptist Church of Jackson, including African Americans. Before you make assumptions, do your research or better yet, join FBCJ for morning worship and experience a "desegregated congregation."

I know Mississippi is 37% African American and every child I see here is white. This is somewhat ironic given they are singing a South African Freedom song-maybe begin at home. I do realize there are all-Black churches too, but surely at the level of an all-state choir, some cooperation might be established. Your desegregated church appears to be hosting the event and not responsible for the choir, and I will take you at your word that the church is not segregated, and if I am ever near, I would like to drop by for a service.

Marian Parrott Haha! I find it amusing if not pathetic in all attempts to downplay the beauty of an interpretation. It is ironic that I am South African and can speak Zulu, whilst you call yourself an African-American. Have you ever been to a Zulu kraal or South Africa or Africa for that matter. Are these comments intended to intensify your prejudice, garner support for a plastic and worn out inference? Get real woman!
