- Every night of the All State Choir conference at about 11pm, everyone comes out to the balconies of the 18 story Hyatt hotel to sing the National Anthem

You know something just feels wrong about a single person singing any national anthem. A national anthem is the anthem of the people, not one to be sung to you by a single man of that country and for you to listen, it is one for you to join in on. To proclaim your love for your nation.

I was sleeping in a hotel as a young lad in Florida once. These angels flew by early in the morning and freaked us out. The only difference is the angles that flew by were the Blue Angels.

I'm German; I believe we have a beautiful anthem. But our nation has forfeited the opportunity to experience anything like this. When that big a mass of people sing that gently, it's overwhelming and powerful. A beautiful anthem, an amazing rendition. Outstanding and very touching. 🇺🇸🇩🇪
I was also born and raised in Germany but have multiple ethnic backgrounds- and reading this I couldn’t agree more. It is very sad to see a country lose its patriotism and not being able to experience something like this in your own country.
How exactly has Germany forfeited the opportunity to render an outstanding performance of its own anthem? I don't understand.
@@autokrator_ you could technically perform the anthem. It just won't happen. We're taught from very little that patriotism and pride for your country (or at least our country) is a dangerous thing. People would feel awkward if such a performance took place. But to begin with, it would just never happen in these dimensions.
Honestly pisses me off a bit. Germany has hundreds of years of culture, and it continues to evolve and develop long after the Nazi regime fell. You arguably have far more than the US to be proud of and to celebrate, and yet all that is remembered is a few decades that are but a chapter in Germany's history. One could recount the US's failures and atrocities in it's short history, and yet it would not diminish the love her people have for her. I wish that the same would be said of your people.

To be fair during KMEA almost every room is booked by people staying at the conference. All-state choir and band as well as almost every music teacher in the state are there.

This is how our returning soldiers should be greeted. By every day Americans singing our anthem collectively without instruments, but with our souls. Absolutely gorgeous rendition of our pride, joy and patriotism of this beloved country.
I'm not even American but this anthem makes me cry. The raw emotion contained within it coupled with the actions of those soldiers and patriots at fort Henry is enough to bring any man to his knees in reverence.
I'm American and I have mixed views on everything but for the colonists to revolt against Britian back then was a huge undertaking. Huge pride for them.

Pierce Nelson actually all state choir is for high school kids from all over the state of Kentucky. I was lucky enough to be chosen when I was in my sophomore-senior years of high school and proud to represent the all state choir for the state of Kentucky 2007, 2008 and 2009

I was fortunate enough to be at one of these hotels when I was younger. I remember sitting outside and listening to them all sing the song "Hallelujah". I also *vividly* remember this guy being dropped off at the hotel SUPER drunk and he started sobbing bc he thought he died, crying out things like "how can I be in heaven? I wasn't a good person!" as his friend helped him hobble over to his room. What a night that was. Wonder how he's doing now.

I'm 65, as a kid I lived exactly a mile as the crow flies from our local baseball stadium, I remember many times standing on the roof of my tree-house with my hand on my heart while they played the anthem, then came the inevitable "PLAY BALL!". Every time I hear it now, it brings back some sweet memories, thanks!

I know that other countries just play their national anthem when the national team is playing or at the start or end of a broadcasting day unlike the US, but it says a lot when we sing it just because. The US has an anthem to be proud of, it sets the point across of what led to us being here, and its willpower. I got to visit the place where the anthem was written at Fort McHenry in Baltimore when I was a kid. We made it in time for a flag changing ceremony, and me being the last in line, I was given the folded flag and had the opportunity to walk it over from one park ranger to another. A moment I'll never forget.
I also got to sing the anthem at an Islanders game as part of a middle school chorus. Was I nervous? A little. Is the anthem famously difficult to perfect? Yes. But it isn't about that, it's about unity. Sing it with your heart, and unleash that spirit.
I am a Canadian and I can't watch that without shedding tears every time. Absolutely beautiful! God bless the USA.

This is a tradition going all the way back to 1958 for the All-State Choirs of Kentucky. Each year the best Choral students in the State audition and are chosen. They gather in Louisville Ky every February for a performance at the
Kentucky International Convention Center. All the participants stay at the Hyatt Regency downtown which was built in 1978. The tradition is to come out and stand outside your rooms and sing the National Anthem each night of the convention. I was blessed to have participated in this all 4 years in High School back in the 90's. It is truly amazing and the people who work and are visiting in the hotel stop and stand still to listen. I'm so thrilled to see the tradition is living on!!!
I am an AMERICAN.. this song brings me to tears, but this time it breaks my heart and brings the tears. I am old now, and once when I was as young as these singers I too would sing this song with deep, soul-wrenching pride. I still have the pride but my heart is broken and I can no longer sing due to illness. I think of my ancestors here since the country was formed. I think of all of the veterans who fought and died to preserve that freedom and I now long for that pride and freedom that is my birthright and I mourn for those days. We followed the Constitution & Bill of Rights. We said allegiance to the flag every morning in school. We were taught all of our rights and true US history in school and were tested on it, and I grew up when citizenship was treasured and essential if you were to live here. To hear their angelic voices in this video reminds me of just WHO we are and WHY we fought for our freedom, I miss my country, but will forever stand with my hand over my heart for a reason...Freedom IS NOT FREE

I like how it ends with the question, "Oh say, does that star spangled banner yet wave, o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?" To me, it's a reminder of how precious and fragile our liberty is, a reminder of all that's been done to get it, and how we can never take it for granted.
Brings me in tears, remembering when they gave me the flag during my dads funeral....he was a Navy seal died in iraq 2007.

The way that hotel is built just carries their voices so perfectly. This is how the anthem should be sung. Clean, clear, and not jazzed up.

The national anthem was originally made as a reminder of the many people who came together to win Americas freedom. This is how it should be performed at major events, not one ridiculously famous person using it to shove down our throats how great they are, but a choir showing that many people working together can make angelic sound.

True, one person doesn't represent many. When sang by a choir, it represents strength. In harmony, it gives more feelings. A lot of songs are meant to be performed in that manner.
