Jeff Quinn ( www.gunblast.com ) tests the Lipsey's-Exclusive Ruger Stainless Blackhawk 10mm / 40 S&W Convertible, and the Ruger Super Redhawk 10mm.
The Ruger 10mm Blackhawk Convertible is available exclusively from Lipsey's distributors in Baton Rouge, LA.
I cannot believe your gone sure glad you where there to help with a lot of purchases. Will miss you Jeff, Gods speed
Yea and still guiding us Can’t really die with all these vids
That was my call you ignored. I'll try again on the next video.
Ruger is one of my favorite gun makers. Their stuff is pretty dang reliable. They got some neat stuff out this year. I like the security 9, the new 9 mm carbine and some of the new Ruger A rifle offerings.
mad props to ruger... looks like this year will be an year full of good releases
The Blackhawk is such a beauty.
I just got the blackhawk today. Ran 100 rounds of 40 and 10mm through it. Love it,
Now I just want a lever gun in 10mm and another in 45ACP
If it helps at all, here is a service that does exactly that:
www.rangerpointprecision.com/single-post/2015/05/09/Marlin-1894-Pistol-Caliber-Carbine-Conversions-10MM-40SW-45ACP-357SIG
Great presentation as always Jeff. I think the .50 AE would suit that Super Redhawk well.
Neat revolvers, cool that they are making these!! Great video!
I would buy that in a heartbeat if I had the money. Rugers are TANKS! You could put ridiculously hot 10mm rounds in it and really reach out there with still plenty of muzzle energy. Great new info Jeff, thank you!
RIP the Greatest, Ruger needs to bring back the 10mm Blackhawk
Comparing velocities between revolvers and semi-autos you gotta take into account that in semi-autos the barrel measurements included the chamber while the revolver does not. A 5" revolver has 5" of rifling, a 5" semi-auto really only has about 4" of rifling.
Gadsden Jim you are completely correct 👍
Yep.
jeff
I didn't realize these were a thing. Great idea for a 10 mil revolver that can fire .40 as well.
Gun Sam _Revolver Aficionado_
Semi auto will also where have you been. ....
S&W used to make the Model 610 that was a 10mm w/ clips as well
@@12799MaDeuce they still do as far as I know. The 310 Night Guard is still made and all the other 610 variants.
I agree with you Sam, as these rounds were designed for a semiautomatic pistol why carry a very large revolver that is capable of being chambered in true revolver stopping rounds? I like the 10mm and the 40, I just think they are better suited in a semi auto for which they were designed.
I've watched a lot of your videos and really enjoyed this one , very well put together , thanks for sharing your knowledge too
Thanks for sharing these with us Jeff, I like 'em :)
Those are really good looking revolvers!
If I had to choose only one, I'd pick the Blackhawk, because of that great 6.5 inch barrel length and the sheer good looks of the stainless steel and wood grips.
And the ability to fire the 40 S&W.
I have been waiting YEARS for someone to do this. GJ ruger
Sure did a good job photographing those
Thank you, Sir.
jeff
Blackhawks are some of the best single action revolvers ever made
I got my Super Redhawk many years ago, when it was fairly new on the market. Because of my big hands, I couldn`t really thumb the hammer good, so I put a Pachmayr rubber grip on it and it filled my hand more so now I can thumb it back without changing my grip on it. The gun quickly became my favorite one to shoot.
I am a fan of double tap also. I use 44 mag 300 grain JHP to hunt and it potent.
another great video! hope you are doing well, cant wait to see what's next!
Your videos always put me in a good mood man. Sunday mornin cookin bacon, drinkin coffee watchin your vids cuz it's too damn cold where I am to go out and shoot..
I love this chanel
Nice closeup and slow mo ... another great review ... thanks Jeff Quinn
good video. both guns are VERY durable, and ruger has finally pulled out of their stupor. the stuff hitting the market for us gunnies, out here, are really starting to perk me up. keep it up ruger, and you too sir. SEMPER FI!!
Thank you Jeff from Florida !
thanks Jeff, just a dream for me, got the old man arthritis and can't handle big recoil anymore, get to watch it from you though.
22s are just as much fun. If I had to pare down to one gun, it would be a 22.
jeff
of all my guns, I still enjoy shooting my 22/45 mk3 the best.
Well I bought SRH, nice to see more vids on it coming out. Don’t know why so many people whine about why they made one. Don’t buy it and move on! I reload 10mm and have a carbine to match with a shell catcher. This is a great addition for me and I’m happy they made it and thanks for the vid!!
Which carbine? I just sold my 10mm TNW. It could not handle hot loads. I also reload 10mm and enjoy it a lot.
Michael Adamson Thureon Defense with a Tactical Brass Recovery catcher, the catcher is awesome and makes the whole package great!!
How is Theuron with hot DT, BB, Underwood?
Michael Adamson well I’m here in Canada so 10mm is pretty rare. I’ve used PMC seems pretty light but they tell me it can handle some hotter loads.
Really enjoyed the video. Love Battle Cry of Freedom! Now I need another great video and The Bonnie Blue Flag.
This something I been waiting to see ruger bring out. Has a place for sure. One thing nice is 10mm revolver should be able to handle those hot load quit well
The moon clips are the deal sealer for me. Ruger is really making headway
I enjoy your videos and hearing your impressions about the guns you feature, and this video was up to standard. However, I have also really enjoyed your Tales from the Vault and wonder when the next installment of that series will be forthcoming? New guns are great, but it is very interesting hearing some of the personal history associated with firearms that have been in use and gained some "experience".
That Blackhawk is dandy looking revolver. That's one really fine looking firearm. I like that a lot.
Very nice, but I'll still stay with my 454 Casull /45 Colt version Super Redhawk.
Jeff, now I think I need one of these. Probably the Blackhawk.
Ruger is really launching some nice products this year!
Friend,
In an auto barrel, strictly speaking, the length of the Chamber should be subtracted from the length of the barrel, but no one measures that way. With the same nominal barrel length a revolver has More Effective Barrel Length. This is often enough to more than compensate for the pressure lost via the barrel/cylinder gap in a well-fitted revolver.
Yeah, I'm also wishing for a Redhawk rather than a Super Redhawk. The SRH just looks clunky to me-but I'm happy for those who like them.
Shouldn't a Redhawk be able to be made to accept .40 S&W and the 10mm in the same way that it can take .45ACP and .45 Colt in the same cylinder?
…..RVM45
PS-Good Review!
You should test the 10mm against 41 mag
I am in love with these revolvers!
That ten/forty single is sweet, your a lucky man Jeff.
Not lucky. Just blessed.
jeff
Why would someone chose these over the same revolvers chambered in comparable revolver cartridges? I wonder if bullet creep will be an issue, with the unrolled crimps on auto pistol cases.
I'd take the 41 mag any day.
Not surprised the revolver velocities were higher than the semiautomatics...a revolver barrel of X length has a longer useful length than a semi auto barrel of the same length
Love my Blackhawk! My first revolver and a Christmas present to myself! 😁🔫❤
Beautiful revolvers. Great video as always.
Jesus Christ, it's like Ruger is insistent on building everything EXCEPT an eight shot .357 Super Redhawk with a five or six inch barrel. But of course they can't do that, because that would mean they were participating in a COMPETITIVE MARKET *GASP*
Dont get much more competitive than Ruger. You must not pay attention. They constantly dump new stuff on the market. His name is Jeff, not Jesus Christ the Lord and Savior. Go to rugers website and tell the CEO what u want. They get enough requests, your wish might come true.
I like the idea and add a little more. Do the Ruger Super Redhawk in 360 Dan Wesson/357/38. Eight shot Alaskan loaded with 360 DW.
Whitaker Behrens Ruger is getting crazy with how many variations on weapons they make. What put a sour taste in my mouth is the ruler precision rifle. Slap the ruger American action in a tatctical chassis and sell them for $1200?! That is insanity.
They already have an 8 shot .357 magnum Redhawk available in both 4.2" and 5.5" barrels.
I'm so tempted on the 10mm Blackhawk Jeff. These may wake up S&W to bring back the N frame 610.
I was at the S&W factory last month, and brought up the 10mm. They didn't seem interested at all.
jeff
I'm so glad new 10mm guns are coming out as revolvers and 1911s *extreme sarcasm*
Now Ruger should make a revolver for the 10mm magnum and 10mm auto. Reed's Ammunition & Research and Doubletap Ammunition have both 10mm loads.
I may have to get a 3rd job to buy all the new Ruger products that I want. This 10mm Blackhawk, 9mm PC, 7 shot GP-100 in .357, and the 5 shot GP-100 in .44 special.
I know the 10mm is no .454 or .460, but I'd like to see that Super Redhawk with a 3" barrel on it like the Alaskan. Nice small(er) revolver giving you options when not in large bear country. Owning a G20 it'd be great to have both pistols to source ammo from.
Here is the different between 10mm vs 44mag in this platform
1. Less price in ammo
2. Less recoil
3. 1+2=more fun
Gracias amigo good video 👍😆
22 TCM Well, it’s also substantially less powerful, more in the .357 mag power class
I have an assumption that Ruger handguns tend to give higher velocities across the line including semi-autos. And the more hot the load the more bigger the difference to the next manufacturer.
Very cool!
Great video. Helpful information. Need to get one of these.
I get chambering the single action in 10mm and I hear you making the case for the super redhawk, but why in God's name would you chamber that rather clunky looking and very heavy revolver in a relatively low power, but great cartridge in a platform that easily handles the 454 casull with the better part of twice the power in the same gun?
Because some shooters want it. The heavier weight tames recoil, and the moon clips allow fast reloads.
jeff
Pretty guns!
Great looking blackhawk. want one.
That phone call was all the gun makers calling him to give positive reviews lol
I only review good stuff. Why waste my time and yours on junk? Besides, I love guns. If it works, and the bullets go where I want them to go, I pretty much like it.
jeff
Alright Ruger, now that you got that out of your system, make a SRH in 500 JRH or Linebaugh
I almost bought a .357/9mm convertible Blackhawk. This one looks like a better cartridge to shoot.
My dear good afternoon, what is the caliber of the gun that appears in the video with a larger barrel, thanks.
Both are 10mm Auto.
Dandy little revolvers.
Now add a 38-40 cylinder with the Blackhawk.
Reloaders ill be able to get all Elmer Keith on the 10mm now and jack it way up.
Great looking guns. I will get back into Rugers when they get rid of the dove tails and instead have flush Picatinny rails.
I have the Blackhawk. Very nice.
This is one of those guns that everyone loves the idea of, but very few people will buy
Ruger DA revolvers remind me of Webley revolvers
Ruger has been having some homeruns. Hope they never turn into a cerberus or freedom group.
I have a 3" 610 LH, pre-lock. S&W says to use the moons for 10mm as well as .40. I still prefer the autos in 10mm. We have a GP something Ruger 10mm here in CA. Glad to see the 10mm sputtering a comeback.
What is the point of a 10mm revolver when you can have 41 mag?
What is the point of the 41 magnum when you can have a 44 magnum?
The good part is, we have a choice.
jeff
Gunblastdotcom Well the arguement for 10mm always seems to be, yeah it's down on power but has 15 rounds. Put it in a revolver and that arguement goes out the window. If you are going to use a revolver choose a more powerful round.
My favorite revolvers are chambered for the 22 Long Rifle cartridge.
jeff
How about reviewing the new Walther P22 QD
When you go to shot show can you go by PSA both they have a MP5 clone if it comes in around $800 for a rolling lock would be great. Thanks.
A nother great video
I'd like to see bolt action American rifles chambered in pistol calibers.
Hateful Hermit ive been saying this for years now
Hateful Hermit Ruger already tryed it. 77-357 and 77-44 Didn't sell well. A buddy of mine has one of each. Hot item as
125 grains at 1700 FPS is pretty impressive
.357 magnum can do exactly the same thing; Underwood makes a load that does exactly that out of a 6 inch barrel. The advantage of 10mm was that it's as powerful as .357 but it's an autoloading round and therefore has the advantages of an autoloading pistol. I don't see any advantage of using one of these over a revolver chambered for .357 magnum.
LawlessNate The heavier bullet is an advantage imo, along with the larger bore size. Otherwise it’s not leaps and bounds over .357
i liked the blackhawk
So I assume that you can shoot 40 out of the super redhawk with the moon clips. Correct?
That is correct.
jeff
hmmmm can a person use the clips to load 40 S%W in the Super Redhawk ?? ....just curious...... Great video Jeff , Happy New Year ......Keep 'em coming !!!
Seems to me you could, IF you use the moon clips. Might get some fouling build-up on the step in the chamber where the 10mm case mouth is supposed to headspace though.
nothing a little work with a persons cleaning kit would straighten out
I wonder if the cylinders are long enough to ream out to 10mm Mag.....
Yes
jeff
Wyoming won’t let me hunt with my 10mm because it doesn’t meet the o.a.l requirements. Not the case with 10mm Mag though......
L>ì mm&
.
Hi Jeff, you don't sound your usual self mate, have you been unwell!.Regards
Just losing my voice for some reason.
jeff
Here a year later. Hope everything is ok by now.
I am not a 10mm or .40 fan, but these could do some conversion on me
It's the ultimate all around handgun caliber. I'm packing a 20 shot Witness 10MM as my primary CCW
Holy dog shit. Why do they keep making stuff i want
Because its in our nature to not be happy with what we already have.
Pow
I was wondering if it was possible to ream the 40 s&w out to 38-40. thanks for the info. i think im gone to buy me one.
Yes, that works very well.
jeff
Sweet...
Just slapping the shit out of that thing.
So will the Redhawk shoot .40 too?
Yes it will, using the moon clips.
jeff
Could you fire .357 sig out of this with a moon clip?
That is possible, but why would you?
jeff
Why would you have a super redhawk in 10mm? It's a big beefy gun that's for heavy magnum rounds, like 44 mag and 454. If it held 7 or 8 rounds... maybe. I carry a Glock 20, I love the 10mm round. I'd pick one up in a GP100.
Speaking of 10mm, why don't you ever use Underwood ammo? I love buffalo bore and Underwood, but I favor the Underwood.
ohtehlolz Interestingly Ruger made 100 Super RedHawks in 357 magnum for the UK market, I hope to purchase one soon. Doesn't make much sense as you mention since it's still only a 6 shooter but we have very limited options here.
Logan Waltz I'm not saying that the super redhawk is a bad platform, I own two and love my Toklat. I'm just saying making that huge revolver a 6 shot for 10mm is silly, like making a Smith X frame a 5 shot 44 magnum... I'd rather see a 7 or 8 shot 10 in this platform is all. With moon clips.
ApurtureSci I feel for your particular market... I live in Arizona USA, where carrying a gun concealed is a right and no permit is needed for law abiding citizens. My only regret is that Ruger, a company that operates in my state, made so few for the UK. If you guys can have a 357 in that platform, I'd love to see every Brit with one.
One of my good friends is from Ipswich, retired from the Royal Navy. I got his old salty ass buying guns like a fiend. That Redcoat loves his guns and I'm damn proud of him.
Power wise is the 357 more powerful than the 10mm revolver
Depends upon which method is used to measure power, but they are pretty close in effectiveness.
jeff
Gunblastdotcom looking for woods protection is either close to 41 mag I know their not close to 44mag
It is good protection from anything on this continent. Many guides and fishermen in Alaska use the 10mm for defense.
jeff
That's a beautiful re v olver😍
Ditto: He's missed

Thanks for sharing.
If I could find a blackhawk or redhawk variant in .475 linebaugh i'd be all over it
Jeff, please don't buy a smart phone. They are addictive.
I tried one of those for about 15 minutes, then gave it to my granddaughter.
jeff
that gun is sexy

I'd rather have a 10mm revolver than a .41 Magnum revolver as it can also shoot cheap .40 S&W and the hot 10mm is "just as powerful" as .41 Mag is.
Dick Tickles not really true, 10mm is most similar to 357mag, regardless of what gun shop commandos love to tell you. The hottest 10mm might equal light 41mag but that’s as close as it comes.
Unless I'm hunting, which if I were during handgun season, I wouldn't be using either 10 or .41, I don't need the power of .41 Magnum. 10mm works fine for defense against bears and other large, dangerous animals.
I'm going to buy a 10mm pistol and having a revolver that can also shoot 10mm, or .40 S&W, would be up my ally. More so than another caliber that I don't want or need in .41 Mag.
So, for me, 10mm is just as powerful and just as good.
An answer to a question I am not asking. Not sure who is.
