- After having the bike for 4 months and never changing gear I finally took the plunge and went in to covert it to a single speed. I counted the teeth on my rear cog (14T) and ordered the the same size as I know this ratio works. I run a 32T chainring on the front. Once you choose the gear ratio you’ll also need a spacer kit, hg freehub body and a tensioner plus a lock ring to hold it all in place the shimano one from my 12 speed cassette was too small but a 11 speed or hg drive compatible cassette lockring will hold the spacers in place nicely if you are on a budget like me. Some spacer kits will come with a lockring too. I used @endlessbikeco cog and spacers as they come in pink (and in many other awesome colours!) In this video I will also be swapping my shimano microspline freehub to a hg drive on my @HaloWheels . For the tensioner I went with @ReverseComponents04 as they are the best on the market! (unfortunately not in pink but the black looks mean 😏) Finally I reused an old 11 speed chain until I can get a pink @KMCChain 😍 (payday needs to hurry up!) Once the gears are all gone I also took out the dropper post, not only did I never use it but now with the cable gone the bike just looks clean and mean! Ready to shred the uplift days and parks! I transfered my customised @burgtecltd seat over onto a cut down @gussetcomponents seatpost 😍

i know a lot of ppl seem to have their own way of assembly but if i could make a recommendation for future builds . When you remove a component the deals with movement of any kinda its good practice to reapply grease before reassembly. Only exception is if something uses a specialty bushing that has anti friction properties or a sealed bearing.
Just a little advice from a seasoned technician and mechanic .
Single speed seems a CroMo steel hardtail thing to me. I hope you have fun. Can always convert it back to 12 speed.

the one thing i always envied about single speed is that you can get a colored chain for pretty cheap, whereas if I wanted a good quality colored chain for my 12 speed i would have to pay like $150, which I would never pay for a chain.

For fitness you build just crazy legs doing hills and short sprints...I love on DJ & Roadie MSGR style.... but have yet to venture into the FIXIE.
It also trashes your knees. Try starting a car in 5th gear...

It’s an older 10 speed I took off another bike 😊👌🏼unfortunately the tensioner won’t accommodate single speed chain
@@tam_unleashed thanks for your reply. I did use one tensioner which looks like a motorcycle tensioner.
It has like a roller instead of a pulley. I believe it's a DMR STS Chain Tensioner and Cassette Spacer Combo Kit.

Did you distance your chain before tensioner? Might have gotten lucky without it...or could have re-toothed the rear cog for possible fitment. This is why horizontal or adjustable drops are super handy sometimes...

@@ArmorOfZeus i figured that would be the way to get back up depending on whether your trail has a fire/maintenance road. I know a lot of my local trails dont. I would be pushing what ever i couldn't peddle.
My rear derailleur broke off in the middle of the freakin desert, i had to turn it into a single speed and ride back to the car for a very long distance, it was a nightmare!

Not sure whether I see this is down/up/side grade, interesting though, heard people creating slope-duro bikes from enduro bikes, is this more slope-trail? (Not that it needs defining). Weirdly I have a spare 650b 170mm travel enduro bike missing the rear cassette, mech and shifter, might give this a go

Yes as long as you have the right freehub.

just simple by select gear as you like from shimano then you just not change it for good.

Which ss kit and tensioner did you use?

As a road cyclist that suspension makes me cringe how heavy. I'll stick to carbon
My bike probably weighs the same as that suspension my rosd bike weighs 6kg well just over.
Why do people say "forks"? Is each stanchion a fork of its own? I guess when you eat dinner, you use multiple forks, since the utensil has multiple prongs, and each individual prong is a fork 😂

Its kinda like a downgrade. I dont see practical to make it singlespeed unless u live in UK and the cassettes dont work well there. Also why remove the dropper.
