I will do 2 tutorials per weapon this time. Advanced tutorials will be at a later time and include stuff like sharpness modifiers, motion values, super armor notes, and detailed stuff like that. Decided including it just confuses the average player plus there’s much unknown still. FYI, I did not find evade lancing very good so far, but I have more testing to do (might include in my advanced tutorials down the line). When you go to do a back hop, any misinput will trigger short forward steps and stuff like that, and the i-frames even with Evade LV5 seemed inefficient. You can be far more aggressive with a normal lance with guard IMO.
Agreed. Gaijin is one of the most vocal MH veteran out there. Others tends to showcase what everyone can learn by using a weapon for a couple hours. Gaijin however covers every aspect of a weapon. From moves, motion values up to numerical stats.
Man, didn't realize how much i missed these tutorials. I've been playing MH for a decade and pretty much know what I'm doing, but I still learn something everytime I watch your videos. Really great work :)
Seeing so many different "tutorials" from people that are only really showcasing the weapons. From text to vocals, you're consistent and specific EVERY time.
Macen Payne the thing is he’s one of the few that can actually play. All of a sudden “everybody plays mh” some guys play for views but are trash. Gaijin , Team Darkseid and Op are ones who can really play
This is where you really shine. You cover everything so adeptly and make these weapons a lot easier to understand. Also, big props to Capcom for finally giving us a training area to practice our moves!
Great video as always. Slight corrections: -The lance's running charge actually has 2 speed boost stages, with the 2nd boost receiving a larger visual indicator. -You only need to tap R2 in the air to land in a charge. Thanks, and keep making great vids please!
Still the number one place for tutorials on the whole of the internet! Thank you for your time and videos. You have no idea how informative and appreciated they are.
Fearl Been maining lance since mhfu. You never have to stop attacking. You always have an option to stick to the monster. Plus according to the first wyverian it's the least used weapon!
I can only agree. As a former SnS, CB, H and DB user you might be able to tell that lance just felt way to sluggish for me. But against monsters like Diablos, I might try this.
Holy shit. I main lance and i'm HR 48 but i never noticed the super guard. With this things are super easy now. I like it even more than evade lancing in 4U. My DPS has increased drastically. Thanks Gaijin
So it begins. I started being truly into Monster Hunter when I discovered your channel back with MH4U, and your work is truly a blessing for us hunters. I'm a hammer/charge blade user but the lance seems really fun, I'll look more into your video tonight. I'm so happy to see this, haha
As always such a nice guide! Im glad you take your time with these^^ after watching your weapon tutorials i always feel the most informed. Have not really played lance since mh3, now i just have to! This looks so fun!
This is the first big hurdle for hunters. Pro tip: if you press R3 you can change the background. This will give you added visibility when changing features.
I just wanted to say, thank you. I was so turned off by the lance/gunlance due to how slow I moved with it drawn and never gave it a change/saw how mobile it really could be. Went home last night after watching your video, forged me a decent lance and went to town. Its the most fun I had with a weapon since I started playing! The amount of damage Nergigante did to me when I was guarding made me hysterical with laughter, and even more so when I immediately countered and knocked him on his ass. My fights feel slightly longer now that I am not in 100% offense mode, but I play much more loose now not having to worry about so many big hits. Converted Lance main for life!
Well this channel is useful since the time I found it (mh4u era) I try numerous weapons beside ls very recommended channel for new hunters well happy hunting
I've played several monster hunter games before, so once i started world I expected to just gravitate towards my usual options of Switch Axe or Dual Blades, but then I picked up the Lance...100 hours later and I haven't looked back. I just love how invincible you feel when using the Lance
Lance allows you to be aggressive without placing yourself in danger, with guard lance you can negate damage and keep on the monster for an entire fight sometimes, Lance makes it so you don’t have to worry about things. It’s attacks are simple and don’t require any sort of advanced techniques, it lets you guard against most attacks, so you can focus on positioning, no long windups so you can react to the situation and with move or guard attacks. Everything is straightforward, and easy to understand, even the counter, arguably the highest skill technique, is not necessary to be effective. Lance is consistent, each individual attack isn’t necessarily strong, but you can keep attacking, over and over
Gaijin. Just a little tip that i don't think i saw you using in the tutorial, but you can actually sharpen an unsheathed weapon if you use the quick dial. That way you can save the time it'd take to do the sheathing/Unsheathing animation. And another thing about the lance, but if you do the forward charge down a hill, you hit the speed boost a lot faster. These are some things i noticed while playing.
This is fantastic, my dad has never played MonHun before; and he picked up the lance. I thought "Oh I've never actually touched the lance myself" but this guide is so helpful and comprehensive he has benefited greatly and is even enjoying himself.
Wow you really opened my eyes, this whole time I thought lance was the least versatile weapon, and yet you turned my perception on it’s head! I’ve been looking into picking a new weapon in rise and decided to look into lance, trying your techniques out along with it’s new tools in the rise demo, this weapon is amazing!
Not even five minutes in and this tutorial already upped my lance game. Had no idea about the huge back hop you can input after normal hops and attacks. Great stuff, as always Gaijin
Thanks for the tutorial. Idk why but I just love watching your videos. Your the most descriptive and most detailed and everything I know about monster Hunter is from you because of that. Honestly would've dropped the series if it wasn't for your tutorials. Now I main everything but lbg. Keep up the awesome work bro. PS , SA CB GS or SnS next plz
This was a fantastic introduction. Seeing actual practical application of the techniques and attacks in real fights after doing a discussion/tutorial in the testing area is a good way to reiterate how the moves are utilized best and being able to witness the utility and flow firsthand is immensely helpful. Well done. Sub earned.
Just wanted to give a huge thanks! I've been watching countless vids this week learning all weapons and yours was excellent, the best! Can't wait for more!
As a new hunter (this is my first monhun) your channel has been the best find ever! All the info I want, explained clearly! Thank you and keep making these vids! :D
Gaijin Hunter, I became a Lance main after learning how to play it, and this video was paramount in that process! Thank you for the great work you did with this one. I can understand people'e initial distaste for how clunky the weapon can feel, at first. But, when played right, it really becomes the most maneuverable weapon in the game. I am always the first one in my group to get to the monster, I am always the one with the highest up-time (always hitting the monster), and I am rarely the one eating up the party faint counter. Not to mention I'm almost always the one mounting/grounding the monster for my team mates to do their lovely combos.
Sebastian Aw The depth of the weapon play, which isn't readily apparent on the surface until you dive into it, is really the hidden gem of monster hunter to me. It's hard to describe to someone who hasn't just tried.
Glad you’re still doing tutorials for all the newcomers to the series, especially for weapons like the Lance. From experience, they really help out. Still remember when I learned how to use the Greatsword properly because of one of your videos back in 3U. Keep up the good work, Gaijin!
I rarely see any youtuber/steamer using lance in their gameplay I dont know but i love lance so much i have like 1000+ usage on 4U and will continue lancing when MHW come to PC
I agree, not too many pay attention to the lance class weapon but it's one of the best advance weapon in the game. I personally use the Gunlance but similar play style.
Well some people think its clunky and sluggish, but if you get pass those initial impression and actually try to master it, lance strikes a perfect balance between offense, defense, and versatility
I hated lance in 1st to 2nd gen monster hunter, but since i played MH3U i force myself to use it because it is the only viable weapon when fighting underwater, and it ended up being my most used weapon type in the following MH games
I've never been so psyched to try this weapon until this video. Thank you for making this! If all of your other weapon reviews will be as in-depth I can't wait to see them!
Amazing tutorial, I remember watching your videos back at 4U to learn the main combos and basic stuff of the game, now you have done an incredible tuturial of a weapon I didn't even consider to use. You change my mind, keep up the good work sir! kudos to you senpai!
I love GL, but damn does it feel like they've never been able to make it feel half as crazy as the good old Lance. Still love blowing up monsters though, so I still always come back to my mortar lance. . .
I always loved seeing people use the Lance, but never figured out how to properly use it. Now I must learn, thing is more awesome then I thought! Thanks for the vid!
detailed and awesome tutorial as always. As someone who has been playing MH for years, i think lance is a wonderful and solid weapon for the beginners in MHW. Thanks!
This is a good video Here's some stuff I discovered -If you block an attack, you can then press R2+X to go to Power Guard without the need of going to Counter Thrust first, which you can then of course follow up with either the leap thrust or a charged up counter thrust -if there's a mushroom wall, you can run up it, either with a regular sprint(can be used by any weapon) or the sprint attack -the sprint attack stops being a multi-hit attack when sharpness goes to yellow, in which case it bounces off pretty much everything -Pressing X to do a back hop can cancel the ending lag of many of the moves, so you do not need to be vulnerable for so long after attacking -You can chain the leap attack you can do after power guarding with the blocking-dodge-hop and then to another leap attack -the shield bads also cannot be bounced back, it seems
it really impressive when you compare the old lance with this new monster of a weapon. Lance was my first weapon in monster hunter 2 and i hated this weapon back then. this new one is just awesome and slightely OP
It's like you're also the monster and immediately know what they're going to do, you make it look so easy. I'm really excited to see your other videos but this really makes me want to play lance.
"You know they call me The Thrust Because I really love to thrust"¨ tl;dr the punchline is the Count's song but the word "count" is replaced by "thrust"
This was an awesome tutorial! It clearly explained the mechanics behind the weapon and showed why it's fun. After watching, lance has become my main weapon and I've been loving it! Thanks Gaijin for showing me the way of poking things.
"I go a little crazy when I have a lance in my hand" That's what she said 😉 "Once you start thrusting, its really hard to stop" How many kids do you have??? Great tutorial tho :D
I have a brand new PS4 and MHW sitting at home waiting for me. Can't wait to pick up lance again and start a new era of hunting! You definitely kindled my love of lancing with your videos! Thanks for making these great videos!
Thanks for making this video. I am new to the series and am loving lance gameplay. I did not realize that your stam depletion in power-guard stops when you take the hit. Yet another awesome feature.
Lance just keeps getting filthier and filthier every game. 4U, it was great X/Gen/XX, ok the DMG boosting Weapon Art was absolutely disgusting World: JFC
Lance was actually one of the first weapons I picked up back in the PSP days. But I haven’t really used it since then. Definitely gonna pick it up now. Brilliant guide, once again.
Hey man, your videos over the years have always been super helpful, finally picked up Lance this game and your tutorials have taught me so many things!!! (even a seasoned vet like I didn't know) thank you so much!
Ive never seen a weapon tutorial video (for any game) that mixed such a detailed explanation on how to use it AND the enthusiasm to make people want to pick it up and try it. Absolutely fantastic video. Well done!
I don't comment much; but I felt I needed to say that I really enjoyed this video. The tips are helpful of course, but it's made all the more enjoyable by seeing how you really do just enjoy the game, and it makes me want to get off the computer and go right back to it. So... thanks! I look forward to other weapon tutorials in the future!
Been watching friends play since the first MH and playing myself since MHFU and you can never learn enough. I was most excited to lance this game, but ended up back to my old ways with the Bow n Arrow (loving it btw). Just got to High Rank, so I think it’s time to rock the Lance. Can’t wait to tank with the Aggro Mantle online for friends and wreck monster’s worlds! Ty as always for the VERY comprehensive guide Gaijin and hope to hunt with you again in the future!
I knew it! I knew that you would go for Lance tutorial first! Cause deep down, your all time favorite weapon is the Lance! Damn you! Thanks for the video!
Inspiring another generation of players to take Lance! You inspired me back in 4U and i moved into Gunlance in MHW but this video really makes me want to pick up regular lance again. I might do it tonight :)
Excellent guide. It seems like Lance would solve a lot of the problems of reach that I have with Sword and Shield. Something I've tried to get by with Switch Axe (to some limited success, mostly on flyers). But I'm such a button mashing console newb (my first non-PC game in yeeeeeeeeeeeeears), every time I've tried lance, I've gotten the stuffing kicked out of me. Video makes me want to try it again and was very informative. I could see the mistakes I was making. Doesn't mean I won't do them again, but now when I do them, I can be specific with cursing myself out instead of just generally telling myself I suck. :D Big thumbs up and a sub. Thanks for the vid.
Oh man, I just posted a while ago in another video of yours asking when are your weapon guides coming, and then this pops out! THANK YOU SO MUCH, I WAS REALLY PLANNING TO PLAY THIS WEAPON!!

sweet
Basic first, advanced later ^^
Is evasion lancing still viable you didn't touch it at all. Or is that for the advanced video
Can you redirect your jumping thrust to a different angle from the power guard like the counter thrust?
Yasss. Can't wait for the Bow tutorial, I really want my friend to learn just how awesome it is in this game.
This is absolutely the best lance guide on UA-cam for new and old players.

Great video as always.

-You only need to tap R2 in the air to land in a charge.

Dan Charlton Agree! Just waiting for that Hunting Horn tutorial now...
By far the best channel for Monster Hunter (in general).
Really glad i found it!
Arekkz and You are my most reliable sources for MHW. Really appreciate all dem videos senpai.
That fight with Diablos is HOW you play with the lance!

When I first fought him that was the first quest I failed solo...cause I didn't think I could block his dig😅
Roy Ashton u main the lance ?
No wonder why I liked this fight sooo much, when I first faced Diablos.

You really sold me on Lance. I was so off put by it, but it seems really fun.
Fearl Been maining lance since mhfu. You never have to stop attacking. You always have an option to stick to the monster. Plus according to the first wyverian it's the least used weapon!

Gabriel Brindle specially the long sword users
Its mandatory. As the charge is the #1 way for a lancer to close distance and engage the monster
It doesn't even send them flying any more. Just knocks 'em on the ground. :(
I am genuinely happy to hear that soothing voice, spreading knowledge and hype on the lance again.
Tiny move you missed, holding L2 while guarding lets you strafe.
Dang, I'm glad I saw your comment.

UA-cam bug: I can only like his videos once?
This is a good video
Here's some stuff I discovered
-If you block an attack, you can then press R2+X to go to Power Guard without the need of going to Counter Thrust first, which you can then of course follow up with either the leap thrust or a charged up counter thrust
-if there's a mushroom wall, you can run up it, either with a regular sprint(can be used by any weapon) or the sprint attack
-the sprint attack stops being a multi-hit attack when sharpness goes to yellow, in which case it bounces off pretty much everything
-Pressing X to do a back hop can cancel the ending lag of many of the moves, so you do not need to be vulnerable for so long after attacking
-You can chain the leap attack you can do after power guarding with the blocking-dodge-hop and then to another leap attack
-the shield bads also cannot be bounced back, it seems
wow this made me want to play lance for the first ime since the first game

tl;dr the punchline is the Count's song but the word "count" is replaced by "thrust"
This was an awesome tutorial! It clearly explained the mechanics behind the weapon and showed why it's fun. After watching, lance has become my main weapon and I've been loving it! Thanks Gaijin for showing me the way of poking things.
"I go a little crazy when I have a lance in my hand" That's what she said 😉
"Once you start thrusting, its really hard to stop" How many kids do you have???
Great tutorial tho :D
I have a brand new PS4 and MHW sitting at home waiting for me. Can't wait to pick up lance again and start a new era of hunting! You definitely kindled my love of lancing with your videos! Thanks for making these great videos!
Lance master race! The toughest weapon to master since the first MH game and still as gangster as ever.
king0vitrial as a lance main i 100 % concur lance is life life is lance
In my opinion, I'd say charge blade is more complex to master. But I agree the lance is deep, badass, and OG since it has been around since the start.
Thanks for making this video. I am new to the series and am loving lance gameplay. I did not realize that your stam depletion in power-guard stops when you take the hit. Yet another awesome feature.
Lance just keeps getting filthier and filthier every game.
4U, it was great
X/Gen/XX, ok the DMG boosting Weapon Art was absolutely disgusting
World: JFC
Lance was actually one of the first weapons I picked up back in the PSP days. But I haven’t really used it since then. Definitely gonna pick it up now. Brilliant guide, once again.
I’m a lance main and I like to think I’m extremely proficient with it and I learned something new from this vid so thank you for it.
I want to try lance after this tutorial 0.0
Hey man, your videos over the years have always been super helpful, finally picked up Lance this game and your tutorials have taught me so many things!!! (even a seasoned vet like I didn't know) thank you so much!
"Once you start thrusting, it's really hard to stop."
I think I've heard a rapist use this as a defence in court.
Ive never seen a weapon tutorial video (for any game) that mixed such a detailed explanation on how to use it AND the enthusiasm to make people want to pick it up and try it. Absolutely fantastic video. Well done!
Gaijan Hunter loves lance.
I've been waiting so long for a good weapon tutorial in general good work gaijin hunter.
I decide to try the lance on this game (never used it before) I was waiting for your tutorials, great video! keep it coming
Been playing since f2 and dropped my greatsword since 4u and became a lance user because of your videos. Amazing work as always!
Listening to your unbridled joy whilst using the lance has convinced me that I need to give it a try!
I love your tutorials. Been following them since MH4! Keep up the great work!
Every time I watch one of your videos I realize I'm not fully utilizing a weapon I'm using. So thanks for all the advice!
I was JUST thinking of finally giving lance a shot this game yesterday. Thank you so much for this!
Big thumbs up and a sub. Thanks for the vid.
Nice job. Every hunter thinking about the lance should watch this.
Woot! First MH World weapon tutorial! Can't wait for you to pump out more of these.
Wow this a great tutorial. Very good instruction and a comprehensive tone. Your mastery of the lance is impressive as well. Thanks!
Oh man, I just posted a while ago in another video of yours asking when are your weapon guides coming, and then this pops out! THANK YOU SO MUCH, I WAS REALLY PLANNING TO PLAY THIS WEAPON!!
