    MY BOUNDARIES (IMPORTANT)
stop asking me to make videos about ever after high. same with the winx club. no ifs, ands, or buts about it. i have said numerous times i dont care to watch, so quit trying to change my mind.
i make it clear what my niche is. literally say what it is in the beginning of my videos: nostalgia, family, and children’s entertainment. When i say nostalgia, that means nothing in the older demographic past the year of 2015 (because that is nostalgic for me)
so stop asking me to review these live action teen series on netflix like ginny and georgia, outer banks, and never have a ever.
yes, every once and a while i talk about something outside of my niche if i really want to, but i mainly put that content on my patreon.
i don’t do this all the time because i don't want to take away from the focus on my channel. like i did when i talked about don't toy with me miss nagatoro, and when cassie howard pissed me off and i included her in that white women tears videos. when i make these videos you guys keep getting on me to talk about things outside my niche.
and no, i will not make a second channel to talk about these things.

oh PLEASE if women "graduated" from animation there wouldn't be any women working in animation. You wouldn't have the LARGE amount of teen girls and women hyping up stuff like Amphibia and Owl House. And that's the thing
If Hollywood made more animated stuff FOR women BY women then the audience for animation would only grow stronger.
Really sick of these executives who have no idea what they're doing

girls don't "graduate" from animation. we were constantly belittled for liking it, while boys were not. a show about talking magical ponies is "for babies" but a show about alien robots who transform into vehicles is "cool". all the media meant for us, animated or not, is brushed off and seen as "lesser than" simply because it's not meant for male audiences. all the male singers and boy bands we loved as kids? always hated. joked at. called names. their female fans get belittled and made fun of for BEING fans of them and seen as obsessive fangirls. all the "girl movies" we watched? completely ignored, dismissed, and barely come out nowadays. shoujo and josei manga are barely adapted into anime anymore, and the anime scene is LITTERED with battle shonen, shonen romance, harems, and male oriented isekais.
so no, girls don't "graduate" from animation. the entertainment industry as a whole just doesn't care about us anymore.

Additionally, when girls are also fans of animated media designated “for boys,” we get made fun of for liking those media. These insecure fanboys would often try to do shit such as “quizzing” us in order to embarrass us (that happened to me in high school when I said I’m a huge fan of Transformers, told the boy to piss off since I don’t need to validate what I like). Fangirls just can’t catch a break.

On movies… So, Titanic is my favourite movie ever, and in having to know EVERYTHING about it, I found out that when it was first being advertised, there was a struggle to figure out HOW to advertise it, in part because of the fictional love story. There was this thought that the male audience wouldn’t show up if that was front and centre in marketing. Explains the font on most of the 90s advertising and the weird slogans it was given. Granted, it’s a weird film in terms of being half disaster movie, but the point is that they were afraid of losing the male audience who loved that shit. And despite it being so popular (shit was a cultural reset), because it appealed so much to teen girls and women in the late 90s, it was shit on. (YES, there are other reasons people don’t like it and they’re entitled to think so, I just know that “girls like the thing so it’s bad” had been thrown around at the time).

I'm sick of it! Us girls can't do anything without getting ridiculed or thrown under the bus. I'm glad we're getting vocal about this and seeing women in animation also speak up on that dumb mindset. The executives have to admit that they don't care and uses this as an excuse to cover up for their shows performing poorly or canceling shows that had potential. Either way, it's frustrating but I'm not going to stop watching animation. Even when I'm old and gray, I'll still be watching cartoons.

I can't imagine the frustration that female cartoon network employees felt towards the higher ups when they said that "girls graduate from animation." It's even more frustrating because the higher up who said that was a woman, so it's obvious that she doesn't know what she's talking about. Imagine being a higher up for an animation company and not knowing your target audience.

And when animation does appeal to boys/men, there is a tendency for toxic boys/men to harass girls/women to try to drive them out of the fandom because God forbid they admit that they like "a girls'" show.

It all reeks of how girls are taught to grow up faster instead of letting them be kids, putting away the fact that cartoons are for all ages and not just kids, a lot of girls are pressured into leaving cartoons and other stuff for kids earlier than boys. Hell, I bet a lot of people still remember how twelve year olds were watching stuff like Vampire Diaries or Pretty Little Liars like...
And it all comes down to toys, they do not want to make stuff for girls because they "do not buy toys" that is why superhero stuff gets cancelled, because girls also love superheroes, they love Starfire, Raven, Artemis but they do not like that girls are also watching those shows... we all remember what happened to Tower Prep... like, how hard it is to market to girls? To just consider them for one second? And even anime sins of this with how a lot of Shoujo now is jumping to being live action, leaving animation to Shonen like... do girls do not deserve shows now?

I would say from age 8-12 I had a really hard time as a girl finding other girls my age who liked cartoons. I saw the girls in my class gravitating toward shows like Hannah Montana and Zoey 101 and developed a bit of resentment toward live action sitcoms because of it. I knew a couple other girls I bonded with around that time who liked animation, but it really did feel like no one else understood us.
That being said I think the reason girls were more interested in sitcoms was pretty obvious. The shows were actually being marketed toward them, often having female leads and whatnot. There just weren't a lot of cartoons made for a female demographic.
I've seen a lot of animation fans wondering where Cartoon Network execs got this idea from, and it's pretty obvious to me they are looking at the numbers. They're looking at a correlation and speculating the cause is that girls just decide they're 'too mature' for animation. I'll give them some benefit of the doubt. 10-year-old me speculated this was the reason other girls would give me weird looks when I talked about cartoons instead of live-action. It's easy to assume when you are looking at animation and live-action as isolated variables, but there are other differences, in the types of stories being told, the characters who are being represented, in the style of humor, etc.

Their statement implies so many falsehoods:
1)That only kids watch anime, when teens are the main demographic.
2)That girls do not like action/adventure shows, shounen/seinen anime, or shows with male protagonists. Especially untrue for Fujoshis.
3)That adults who watch cartoons are developmentally challenged.
4)Girls don't buy merchandise & toys. (& yet they do believe that all women are shopaholics at the same time).
5)They're completely ignoring how big of a failure CN Real was.
6)That adult animation is juvenile... Okay, this one is kind of true half of the time, at least with western animation.

The fact that they said that only reinforces the sexist undertones of the animation industry, women grow out of animation yet guys can continue to nerd out over it all the want for as long as they want. This only further excludes women and girls from the conversation about animation, there are plenty of talented, skilled and wise women in the animation industry and who talk about animation (yourself included Captain). Their comment wreaks of sexist double standards and outdated thinking. Thanks again for adding your 2 cents to this topic Captain, I eagerly await what you make next

Oh boy that Cartoon Network lady is gonna be real shocked to find out how much of my public school years were spent watching animaion probably more than live action things, and that for my hs graduation a few weeks ago I literally had a Kiki's Delivery Service themed cap. In 7th grade for a career project we did I chose animator because of the grip anime and western shows like Steven Universe and Gravity Falls had on me, and even though I let that specific dream go because I'm not a great artist I still wanna work in animation/media in some capacity because my love for the medium is so huge. I just came back from Disneyland (where I cried when meeting Winnie the Pooh, a fictional but mostly animated character) and I can't tell you how many pre-teen/teenage girls I saw wearing My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer shirts, with most of them being poc too (also recently ran into a grown woman in the bathroom at a restaurant wearing a JJK shirt, guess she didn't "graduate animation" either). At this point I just don't understand how execs for companies who mostly make animated content STILL DON'T GET that girls and women love animation, and considering how profitable that demographic is you'd think they'd wanna capitalize on it instead of insulting their audience and the women who used to/are working in animation currently. I'm so sick of garbage takes like this

Thank you for speaking up about this. I know all of girls who are born before the 2000s/2010s can relate to being judged by society for watching/liking cartoons, because when we do, we're not seen as "mature", "lady-like", and people tried babying us too. I got judged by my mom the other day for spending my income on video games and dolls😒 Like, hello, my childhood has been robbed because of you mom, cause I was forced to grow up at a young age, that's why that now I'm in my 20s, I'm collecting dolls I keep in my doll boxes. It's so hard that some of us girls are forced to grow up, and forced to wear revealing clothes and wear makeup by our mothers or mother figures when some us girls don't like fashion or talk about boys (like me)🙄. Maybe not all girls would want to watch live action sitcoms that's targeted towards female demographics like Zoey 101 and That's so Raven for example because it's real life stuff and we prefer to watch cartoons as "escape from reality" because cartoon characters can easily fix their problems with their supernatural abilities and we envision ourselves living in the cartoon world and prefer to live in that kind of world than here.

Because they get shut down my those constantly saying no to them. Mothers are the ones taking their kids to the movies most of the time, and can find fondness for them as well as their children. Most of the time, I think it's too simple to say that they are writing specifically for a male audience. It's more like the men writing the show think that their way of storytelling is universal, and that simply having female characters in the show is enough to appeal to women and girls.

On the topic of little girls watching anime more when I was little the westernized Glitter Force was my favorite thing every (and Sailor Moon but I watched that closer to middle school) I LOVED them and I saw myself in the characters. This is not to say that Japanese anime doesn't have this, but there is more variety where you have more choices.
Teen Titans gained more attention from girls and this was actually why Cartoon Network cancelled it and rebooted it because they felt like the demographic they desired didn't draw it to it (boys).

It’s kind of funny how those boys didn’t like the Powerpuff Girls because of the female lead but the creator of the Powerpuff Girls is a man Craig McCracken

As a woman who grew up with animation (both Western and anime) such as Disney movies since before I even started preschool and basically watched animation all my life, I never knew that animation was popularly deemed male-oriented until recently. What made me never knew of this sexist misconception that all girls apparently by nature hate animation is I’ve been around other girls who love animations and most other girls I know love animations.
And looking back at the times when I heard ppl keep assuming anime is supposedly only for boys…
    …now i see…
Western animation is also popularly misconstrued to be male-oriented and I’m not surprised tbh.
No wonder when foreign female-oriented animations get exported to the USA back in the 90s and 00s, they would try to make it male-oriented as much possible. Oh yeah I do remember in the Cardcaptor Sakura dub, they tried to make it shonen when it’s shojo and retitled it “Cardcaptors”
Sailor Moon is misconstrued to be a shonen anime bc when it first came to the USA, it was mostly watched by college guys.
Btw contrary to foreign popular belief, shonen, shojo, josei, and seinen are NOT genres, they’re gender demographics. Shonen=boys
    Shojo=girls
    Seinen=men
    Josei=women
All 4 of these demographics can fall into any genre.

When you think about it, most of the CN shows were all mainly boy leads than girl leads, and the only girl leads that was popular was PPG, the only "cartoon for girls" show successful (yes, I quote that because idk what/how else to describe the show because I'm aware boy audiences watched it), any other cartoon shows with girl leads were failures on CN. Yet, most of its audience are girls watching "said boy shows".
Honestly, I'm sure a lot of us are done watching Cartoon Network and hate the network, because of how sexist the company is. That company has been sexist for a really long time, so I'm not surprised they made that kind of statement. I figured they were sexist during my early high school years and I think that's why many girls in my area stopped watching CN. I've stopped watching Cartoon Network like 6 or 7 years ago since I'm mainly into streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and Paramount+.

I have never heard about that until this video (I don't have much social media) and I am honestly so offended by that statement. I have always loved animation and the process of animation since I was a child and it remains one of my main passions. Cartoons like Animaniacs, Gravity Falls, and My Life as a Teenage Robot for example have helped to shape a lot of who I am today. In general, it seems like literally anything that women like are often belittled and not taken seriously by society at large, instead being looked at as a dumb excuse to "fangirl" and look at hot guys, or just having little to no artistic value (not saying that some of these things don't deserve criticism, but people were critical of stuff like Twilight for all the wrong reasons).
Also I'm shocked that they want to go the live action route again. They tried that before and it nearly bankrupted the entire company. If I were them, I would literally never consider anything live action unless it's something like Roger Rabbit or TAWOG.

I don't know who thinks that considering girls mostly watch all of the action and other cartoons that come out like I know there were a lot of girls who watched Ben 10 when it came out and there were a lot of girls watching Young Justice when it came out even now that young justice is season 4 just ended and the main majority of people I see talking about it on Twitter and other social media are women a lot of other people do talk about it but I've mainly seen women talking about it or reviewing it here and there on certain sites
For most people I've seen on anime Twitter have been mainly men but I've seen like a lot more females on their two talking more about anime and stuff so I don't know who thinks this but a lot of women do still watch animation I don't know I seen it where some men even though anime and stuff has become more popular don't really still talk about it openly how about how they watch anime and stuff because a lot of men still sometimes get made fun of for watching anime and animated shows but when women do it they just see it as a hobby I guess I don't know

Trying to project their misguided views onto us, it’s so dumb! I’m a trans man so it’s a bit different but I know what it was like to be a little “girl” who was interested in animation, there was hardly anything! Even now one of my favourite shows The Owl House is being cancelled cause of it and I’m sick of it! Though that might also be bc of the lgbtq+ stuff in it y’know how Disney is unfortunately.
My point still stands though! When I was a little baby I wanted to be just like Rapunzel cause of Tangled and I loved the things like Disney princesses and stuff, I even dressed up as Ariel to go to Disneyland Paris as a baby it was very cute. I loved animation and still do even if now I’m a boy I grew up a girl with no good role models in the things I like (couldn’t even reach over to anime cause I was too young at the time)
I think they’re doing this to put us into more boxes to “appeal” to us all better. Split us up so they don’t gotta make things that include everyone (and maybe make it so the people who are “different” can be discriminated against easier because kids won’t be able to see these other things as normal and such but that’s just a theory from a dumb 15 yo so take it with a grain of salt). It sucks to all hell and I hate it and I just wanna enjoy things and have things not be severely cut down or whatever to appeal to boys more
(Sorry for the little mini rant I just feel very strongly about sociopolitical issues)

They ruined themselves not girls. Always blaming everyone else. They settled with any #1 franchise they had and ran with it.
The woman who said it Amy Friedman has seen their shows not doing good but not asked why. Instead they want to rely on sitcoms and dramas like Disney and Nick.
She needs vets that had successes with the medium to come in and plan. So they could also get the tie-in media to be successful.
Also they should definitely hire many people that are on Instagram, UA-cam and TikTok. People are around CN, hire them.

"Girls graduate from animation" will go down as the worst hot take of the year.
Check out the SLAYERS anime. Line is not very sexualized & she is badass OP without being a Mary Sue.
I personally preferred cartoons that didn't have girls in it. They just got in the way of my gay ships, & I don't need to empathize with "someone like me."

NO! Westrin animation is trying to be woke as hell, but anime as a whole don't give af so they (Japan) puts out content that they like.
