On Audrey Bourgeois with racism-it felt icky when Audrey called Alya a beggar and complained about having to sit next to her. I guess it could be classism
A black woman can be a Karen what makes up a Karen is the aggressive actions a woman takes in public. just cause men looked at her weirdly or if their food is 2 mins late getting to their table the term is mainly used for white women who are white. simply cause there aren’t any black women who are named Karen hell at least I’ve never met any that have the name this statement is like saying blacks can’t be racist simply cause were not oppressing anything but in Layman’s terms all a Karen is a woman who is entitled and stuck up an making a scene in public

I think that's what most people view as a Karen nowadays. I believe what harriyannas point was that the word Karen was originally used to critique white women who get away with shitty behavior due to race, this overuse of the word just waters it down to "asshole" and defeats the whole point of why the word Karen was created
Black people literally created the term for what it is used as today. The term Karen is used to describe a white woman who annoyingly picks problems with Black people who are doing no wrong. That is what it started as before other people co-opt that term and started to use it and called anybody a Karen. It’s annoying to me that you people would take terms made by Black people and then use it against them.
I’m from a European country and it’s honestly cringe seeing people using these terms especially as it makes no sense. Firstly we have our terms and had them for years, like Mary and Bridie would be the gossiping old ladies. Mary would be more naïve and Bridie be more the vicious type. Secondly, Karen isn’t actually really an exclusively White or Mid-age name. It is reasonably popular among girls born in the 90s and 00s and Black Women called Karen do exist (e.g British fashion Vlogger KarenBritchic) and until this Meme form of the name took off, it was not seen as a White or Black name as often POC parents will choose a “local” name as they believe this gives their child a better chance fitting in society or the parents come from a country that has colonial links to Europe so the names have been long established their home country anyway. It’s not that unusual in Europe for non-White people to have what Americans deem “very White” names because the dynamics are different. Karen is simply direct translation of Catherine in much of Northern Europe, so it’s a pretty generic traditional name. So besides white people using it wrong, it’s simply contextually doesn’t fit in either which is why I believe it just ended up as a way to be mean to random women every time you disagree with them & people missing out WOC can’t be Karen’s
@@whoknows9085 Sorry if I didn’t write in a way that conveyed it clearly but I was talking about perception of the name not people literally thinking there isn’t Black women called Karen. Hope that clears it up, for you?

A while back a black person at a fast food restaurant pepper sprayed one of the workers because they were upset. I did not hear about this on the internet or from someone else. I was actually there and some of the spray was in my eyes
THIS. ALL OF THIS. Candace Owens is black and that doesn't stop Candace from acting like that!
@@dotcombabytm4644 the only thing I hate more than black people acting like the worst stereotypes is watching them stab each other in the back
Nope, they are still not Karen’s
They are bitches, and they are entitled but not a Karen
Even if they have money or some sort of status, they do not have the social power to put your life at risk by calling the police on you, and you alone
And when I say “you alone” I mean if the police came, their lives would be put on risk, whether they know it or stupidly not
Karen’s are White women because not only are they aware that their status as white women puts them above everyone else but white men, they know that the police are more obligated to help them
So what do they do everytime they don’t get their way? Sure complain to the manager, but that’s the best case scenario. Worst case is that they call the police on you, and even a child because they didn’t get their way
You’ll meet entitled people in general, no matter the race. But white supremacy as a system gives these people a toxic ego
@@whoknows9085 sure white supremacy is a problem. I'm not arguing against that. My point is if you act like a Karen, you're a Karen no matter the ethnicity. And cops don't always get involved when people act like toxic bitches
@@crazylizze98
Notice how you just ignored every point from the video and my comment to an extreme
Sure you can repeat a word whenever someone makes a point, but you don’t actually connect them together from what I’m seeing
I mean white women doing Karen shit also get kicked out, nobody likes them that’s the point. The incidents u described wouldn’t make anyone a Karen bc they are standing up for themselves, however if someone is being rude and acting entitled, even a black woman, they can be a Karen
Nope, Karen’s entitlement is unique because it stems from white supremacy allowing them to get away with most things and/or get a slap on the hand as a punishment
That is why they are very comfortable calling the police on Black children for picking flowers or accidentally bumping into them
@@whoknows9085 but anyone can have a sense of entitlement, if a person is doing the exact same actions of a Karen, then they are a Karen yes it does originate from that, but anyone can exhibit the same traits

Yes anyone can have a sense of entitlement. We just call them entitled people

i had to deal with terfs on tumblr.god it’s a cesspit
@@skylerk126 divesters were like miniature Candace Owens -- obsessed with denigrating black men and fetishizing white and nonblack men, hating light skinned black women and mixed black women and pitting them and monoracial black women and dark skinned black women against each other, a lot of gender role essentialism that catered to white male gaze and devilish white supremacist cisheteropatriarchal culture norms, transphobic and attacking any black woman that didn't agree with divester culture norms, being quick to call us mammies, pick-mes, etc. That time was just....whew chile, a mess.
Well they already subscribe to white supremacist rhetoric, so ofc they are going to steal aave as they did for “woke”
Damn I didn't actually know what a Becky was, I thought for the longest time it was an incel term for women who were of lower value who got high value men. But yeah I definitely have some Becky traits, that is something I need to work on.
Also STICKERS YAAAAAY!!!!!!!! MORE FOR MY SKETCHBOOK!!!!!
When have you EVER heard men you deem incels (how do you even know their sex lives like that?) call a type of woman "Becky"?
It’s also a term for misandrist women and women who hate all men.
@@christopherbrown5409 It's rare, but I actually heard it myself in a contrapoints video talking about Incels. Also, charecters named Becky don't always look the most attractive..
@@seraphim108 true to your second point, but it's only Black women I hear or read talking about Beckies
My think is that if there are Latina Karen's, they are that way to their community
Entitled/narcissistic latinas exists, but it's kinda different. These latinas tend to be boomer moms who share versicles on their status on social media, are closed minded and they think that we world revolves around themselves. It's a different archetype and it comes from a different place... I call them Yolanda
And also, they're just like that with other latinos, they would never get away with that attitude around white people
Mayor Bourgeois is the mayor of Paris. You can't be a mayor of the whole country of France, they do have a president of the country, currently Emmanuel Macron.
Also so many of y’all are missing the point. Yes black people can be assholes. Anyone can be an asshole. But karen as a term was meant to criticize WHITE WOMEN. It was never meant for black people. there is a REASON we use the name karen specifically, and it’s because it’s supposed to conjure the idea of a white woman. It refers to white women.
if a black person is being an asshole you are aware that you can just call them an asshole right? If they’re being entitled you can use the word entitled. We have words in many many languages that mean jerk, asshole, selfish, rude, and entitled etc. you can use those, in fact I promise that we’ll understand what your mean even better if you do.
So...its a racist slur?
@@afanwithtoomuchtime4375
If you say it towards black people and aren’t black
@@whoknows9085

@@afanwithtoomuchtime4375
Exactly, so if you tell it to Black people then it is a slur
@@whoknows9085
How? Its not a word which implies only black people. Does it?
On Audrey Bourgeois with racism-it felt icky when Audrey called Alya a beggar and complained about having to sit next to her. I guess it could be classism
A black woman can be a Karen what makes up a Karen is the aggressive actions a woman takes in public. just cause men looked at her weirdly or if their food is 2 mins late getting to their table the term is mainly used for white women who are white. simply cause there aren’t any black women who are named Karen hell at least I’ve never met any that have the name this statement is like saying blacks can’t be racist simply cause were not oppressing anything but in Layman’s terms all a Karen is a woman who is entitled and stuck up an making a scene in public
yeah that’s my take too… like if you’re someone of any race who is being rude and entitled in public you’re being a karen… it’s honestly dehumanizing in a way to put women of color on a pedestal and say they can’t be karens just because they’re not white, being oppressed doesn’t give you the right to be an asshole without consequence
I think that's what most people view as a Karen nowadays. I believe what harriyannas point was that the word Karen was originally used to critique white women who get away with shitty behavior due to race,
this overuse of the word just waters it down to "asshole" and defeats the whole point of why the word Karen was created
Also Black people cannot be racist unless it’s against other PoC. Spare me with the “black people can be racist to white people too” bs
@@seraphim108 exactly, these ppl are purposefully ignoring that point. They always take our terms and use them against us
Great video!!
Did you think we didn’t know Black people are named Karen?
@@whoknows9085 Sorry if I didn’t write in a way that conveyed it clearly but I was talking about perception of the name not people literally thinking there isn’t Black women called Karen. Hope that clears it up, for you?

Not really, but I will say the reason it got taken out of context was because white people didn’t like it so they decided to call everyone that
I was right about Lindsay but I thought that Heather would've been the Karen😆
Heather is Asian and despite her personality, she doesn't have Karen traits. Blainely is way more likely to threaten to call the manager and police than Heather is.

the word karen is a stupid insult in general
Yeah using a woman’s name as an insult has never sat right with me. Especially cuz it’s like, are these “Karens” doing anything that men haven’t? No? Like I get that women of color have specific experiences with racist white women, which was probably where the term came from, but ever since men (esp white men) got ahold of it, it just reeks of misogyny. Where I live people be calling women Karens for having any complaints or standing up for themselves at all. It’s exhausting.

SAY IT LOUDER
Haven't seen all of the video yet, but so far I disagree. The vast majority of the time I've heard Karen thrown around, online and offline, was to point out when someone (often a white woman, but not exclusively) is being super entitled and/or having a problem with someone for no apparent reason. Think people berating customer service or retail workers. And if we want a specific example involving race, think to the dog walking incident. Often times she's called the racist karen, for good reason of course
Thats literally the same case as most words that started in the black community
White people steal them, change the context to suit their own needs, give it a few months on TikTok or whatever and bam: no longer black, it’s just “internet talk”
@@whoknows9085
"White people" don't steal words. Americans by and large speak English. Karen is an insult in the English language. There is no white people committee or organisation that determines what words will be stolen from the black community, or how. Its just people speaking a living language.
