The 5.4L 2vs are fine, they have the same issue with the 4.6 of blowing out spark plugs but it's not a piece of junk like the 2004-2009 5.4 3vs.
Seriously a underrated channel, great content and insight!
Thank you! We appreciate it!
5.4 2v is basically the same exact engine as the 4.6 2v lol.
Both extremely reliable.
Picked up 09 f250 4x4 before auction got it and paid $4000. Had new michelins .Had a shell and pretty much brand new sensata inverter. Been driving it for about 5 yrs. It was my buddies that worked at Jones Lang Lasalle and only driven to different apt complexes for routine maintenance. He took real good care of it.
i have 2005 chevy avalanche has 239000 took 800 mile round trip to gulf coast. ran flawless at 19 mpg on hwy. love it
Great as always!
I love my '91 F-250s and my '95 F-250s, 4.9 and two 7.5s, regular cab and two supercabs. Reliable, okay gas mileage, stout being a 3/4 ton, comfortable, and stylish. Super reliable. I would recommend a 3/4 ton over a half ton any day of the week.
i bought a 1994 f-150 4x4 reg cab SB 5.0 5 speed with 106k miles 3k. i had to repaint the drivers door and there are a few rust spots by the fenders but it runs and drives perfect! I shift at 2200 rpm's and i averave 19mpg! its all in how you drive them!
I logged into UA-cam to give this vid a like. Thank you! Great vid. So many of these top anything reviews don’t go into any pros and cons. You clearly know what you’re talking about.
Clean intro man
Sometimes when a truck is parked, it's because it's broken, Ford, Chevy, Dodge.....I have an 1988 f150 XL, 4x4 5 speed md05, it's beautiful 😊
I've got an 04 Avalanche with 240k. It lives up north so it is rusty as hell. Chunks of body, rockers, gas tanks straps, ...etc. fall off regularly. If you are buying one that has been up north, check that frame and the entire braking system. Once one line goes, the rest are close behind. Ditto for the translines.
I bought a 1983 F250 with a flatbed hydraulic bale spears 4x4 3500 and runs like a champ!
You can get 87-91 F250s in 4x4 that have litteraly zero rust in BC for like 3k
I got a 2995 Chevy 1500 with the 4.8 nothing fancy just an old work truck with 211,xxx miles I love it it has been very reliable stock motor and stock transmission
Love my Tacoma, but grew up on Ford/Chevy trucks.Great video, even if Dodge didn’t make the list!😂😂👍
Just stumbled on your channel; you are the 3rd YT mech, two I watch on regular basis, that have the same Chevy and ford recommended years. I am in the market for a “newer” truck and have been making sure for a Ford it’s something with a 4.6 2V, in Chevy/GMC- 5.3 ‘99-03, or Ford F250 ‘11-13 with 6.2 Gas.
My favorite channel keep it up
Thanks for the support!
This video was posted on my birthday.
5.4L 2V is fine. So many people mistake it for the 3V
My 1995 F250 7.3 PowerStroke is great.
I had a 99 F150 with the 4.6 I should’ve kept. I would say some things to lookout for is the intake manifolds, they are leak prone. Also the heater cores can be an issue and it’s a process for sure. Never go with an aftermarket core either pay more for the Motorcraft.
My dad has a Chevy Silverado 2500hd 6.0L 2002 crew cab with 348,444 miles at 346,000 fix the all of the engine leaks seals of oil no check engine and no leaks anywhere. Everything is original. Everything is OEM.
I'm a ford guy but also have had and loved Chevy's, and couldn't agree more.
I have 3 trucks from your list and live them all.
1. 3.0 V6 Ranger 02
2. 4.6 V8 Expedition 04
3. 4.9 i6 f150 straight piped with all the democrat parts deleted (smog/egr...)
I beat on them and they just keep running.
Stumbled across your channel and am loving it so far. Scored myself a 2006 Silverado VortecMax with the MaxTow package a few years back. 6.0 4L70 with 14 bolt axle. Been pretty solid other than the typical northern rust including brake lines and ball joints.
@@zxr-me6dk Vmax was 1500 only. 345hp/365tq. Same engine as the Escalade/Denali
@@colebertils7359 ah I was not to sure ik 2500s had 6.0s but not sure on the max part
@@colebertils7359 I’ve only seen one 6.0 max and the kid was drifting the roundabout by my house like a g
Glad to have you in the Grumpy family!
could you do one for under 10K or 15k I would love to see that list Great video btw
Idk if there’s issues calculating MPGs but the numbers I hear you say in your videos seem pretty inflated. 18-20mpg on a full size v8 of older trucks maybe on the highway, not going against wind flow, on a day that’s not needing air conditioning, and going downhill 😂
Most full size trucks are normally anywhere from 10-16mpg average depending how heavy or not your foot is I think.
The 99 to 2006 Silverado is a really good truck. The 4l60 is okay. I'm at 260k on mine and it's still going strong. Just change the fluid and it will keep going.
I've had a few minor interior issues, but nothing that couldn't be fixed. I was able to do it myself.
The engine has needed nothing in the 10 years I've owned it.
All i've changed is basic items.
There’s decent Nissan Titans out there, clean but with high miles
Agreed on both top 2 pics. I have a 2000 f150 4.6 2wd and paid $400 for it cause it needed a transmission, ac wasnt working and cruise control. Paid roughly $1300 to get that all fixed (used expedition transmission) and other then cosmetics, recently after two years of ownership needing a radiator and thermostat, its been a workhorse. 239k miles and going. My dad has an 01 silverado 2500hd 6.0 and that is arguably a nicer truck, but my dad prefers the way my f150 rides. Regardless, for the pricepoint, they are reliable. That being said, i thought the 2v 5.4 was a good engine too?
Please do a top 5 full sized trucks for under $10k video
Are the used Nissan Titans any good for a cheap reliable daily work truck?
Gmc 305 not bad mileage l have 98 230 horse power I paid 4500 for it good truck
Bought a 2008 4.8 Silverado w/ 100k miles in 2012 just got rid of that truck in the beginning of 2023 and it had probably 3-4 oil changes throughout its entire life in my possession. I turned it in with 225k miles and still had life left.
WHY did you only do 3-4 oil changes in 125,000 miles ???
Great video. The starter in the v8 tundras can go fly a kite…
Surprised you didn't include the 02-07 Ford Falcon. Though hard to get one with low mileage the straight six just keeps on going which explains why Ford says the Barra was the best engine it ever made. Shame about the gearbox which is known for failures around 180k and cost $3500 for a new one. So that's something too watch out for. Also watch out for rust as these were often left out in the weather and not washed.
this video is about trucks dummy
@@laillahilaallah001 And what do you think the Ford Falcon Cab Chassis is? A 2 door coupe with a tub\tray with a 1t carrying capacity? Actually that would be interesting. So a Tacoma you don't call a truck, that's interesting. So what do you call a truck? The Tacoma is about the same size as the Falcon.
@@2DogsVlogs hahahah good one!!
What do you think about the first gen titan
The starter placement makes me homicidal. The transmission is worse than any other full size truck and I'm not sure if it or the 94-01 rams have the most busted dash of all time, it's a close tie
Was looking at a 10th-12th F150 gen but i know I'll shoot myself in the foot if i dont use it for work.
I’d love to sit here and defend my moods but I can’t lie, I do see a lot of them listed with “replaced engine at xx,xxx miles” lol
How does the Ford 4.6 compare to the Chevy 5.3 in terms of mpg?
I have a 4.6 in an expedition and get about 17
honda ridgeline ?
Change out the back bank of spark plugs and let us know.
@@ricecakeFTW hm, what's problem with that?)
So no dodge? Not shocked lol
He must be kin to Scotty Kilmer. Never a good thing to say about a Dodge. I own nothing but Mopars and have had better service from them than any other brand.
Well if it's all you know, sure. I encourage you to try a Toyota!
@@GrumpyMonkeyGarage Been there, done that. And Honda, Ford, GMs etc. I'm 57. Not some wet the behind the ears kid. I encourage others to buy whatever they like, but they usually need to borrow one of mine when theirs lay down. The ones that I will lend, anyway.
@@jamesallison300 GM, Ford, and Dodge have all made good and bad trucks. I like the 2nd gen dodge rams, obs Chevy, cateyes, obs Fords, rangers etc. However I will say the weak point for dodges isn't the motor, but the transmission. The 318 and the 360 are reliable motors imo. Hemis however can be problematic, depending on the year.
I really think Ram made huge strides by utilizing the ZF 8 speed. The Chrysler transmissions are garbage, I can’t argue that. The 4th generation hemi trucks with the 8 speeds are really reliable and perform far better than most trucks. I will say that the GM 6.2/10 speed will out perform the ram set up, but you’ll pay for that. And you still won’t get a 3.92 gear.
those tundras has BAD FRAMES!!!!!!!! $3,000,000,000 class action lawsuit
We are in the south where the only rust is from all the New Yorkers that moved in and drove the property prices up. Ain't no Toyotas rusting down here. But this comment is accurate for those of you living in rust belt states, always check for rust!
