    My favorite thing about Peter's death is the sinister six failed in killing him. 6 of his enemies got together and they all lost against a dying child. It perfectly show how far Peter has gotten in being Spiderman. At end Peter was able to defeat them all before the Punisher's bullet did its job.

    The ultimate Spider-Man comics were the first comics that I read the entire run for (till Peter died I stopped there, never read the miles part) and it will always hold a special place in my heart, I’m pretty sure I read all 160ish issues over the course of 3 days, I would get Home from school at 4pm and then read until 3am in the morning, there was just something about it that kept me hooked. Needless to say I cried when I read death of Spider-Man at 3 in the morning

I have a ton of appreciation on the amount of work you put in to your videos. These types of videos helps me as a fan of Spider-Man making my choices easier on which comic to read or get a physical copy of it, wanting to get into particular parts of a character's comic & not knowing if it's absolutely horrendous or amazing is really hard to know. One thing I've picked up on is to look out for comics with the author/artist (that I know I've enjoyed their pervious work) that has been involved with a issue run or a separate comic story on it's own, Like Michael Bendis or Geoff Loeb for example.
    At least that's how I feel with Marvel's and DC's comics.

On the topic of Miles, I pay huge respect to Bendis for inventing him, but his run is actually by far the worst Miles run in my opinion. Ultimate Spider-Man is the closest we’ll get to a Netflix series cause that’s honestly how it feels! The writing, stories, and characters feel very relevant to stories that are being told nowadays 23 years after it’s initial release. It’s honestly one of if not my favorite versions of the character and world around him. Things are hard for him, but he still jokes. When he gives up, you completely understand where he’s coming from. And you can’t make the complaint that he’s a man child cause he is a child here, yet he’s very adult for his age. Not to mention, MJ isn’t annoying and doesn’t hold him back, sure he saves her a few times here and there but it’s not an everyday thing. If you haven’t read this series, you are missing out, and that’s coming from someone who isn’t much of a comics reader.

Felt like a return to form, and a "thank god we have some fresh blood in here" because it really just felt like Bendis' heart wasn't in it anymore. Maybe he stretched himself thin, I don't know. Those first 60 or so issues of Ultimate are some of the best comic books, period. But the series reallllllly dives off the rails, despite continuing to have good stories from time to time.

      He absolutely stretched himself thin. I just think it's a pattern. He gives us gold for a good long while. Then, at some point, he loses interest in the wonderful characters he created and just stops caring. It's painfully evident in both Peter and Miles. Just happened faster with Miles since I think he was just "done" with Spider-man and felt he needed to move on to other things.

    Honestly, I love that Peter being a prick before the bite.
    To me, Spider-Man is the man Uncle Ben wanted Peter to be, and that's a guy fundamentally different from what Peter wanted to do when he first got powers. The chip-on-his-shoulder, antisocial Peter WASN'T good enough, he HAD to change who he was to live up to the father he failed (kind of why I like him having no friends at the start and only developing a social circle after he became Spider-Man, becoming a more sociable and kind person). It's kind of a harsh lesson, but I like it.

  • @amirgarcia547
    @amirgarcia547 Рік тому +10

    Honestly as someone who grew up reading Ultimate Spider-Man, it always felt like such a great, grounded and human approach to Peter in an era where his current comics run was really struggling (kind of like how it is nowadays, huh?) And while the Ultimate universe as a whole eventually ended up imploding due to plenty of questionable creative decisions, in the end both those comics and the Raimi movies shaped a large reason as to why both Peter Parker and Spider-Man ended up becoming my favorite superhero. And Miles is both a great and worthwhile addition that, while he started out pretty generic and barely had any rogues gallery of his own, his later appearances and especially his role in the Spiderverse movies and Insomniac games have fleshed him out as a great character that can stand strong alongside Peter. And so if there’s anything amazing the Ultimate universe did, it was give us both this spectacular new version of Peter Parker along with a great new character who took up the mantle when he no longer could.

    Great video as always! As you were discussing the Ultimatum event, it reminded me of how Ms. Marvel's story was interwoven with crossover events during the original run. That's what makes her character in the comics so foundational for modern readers, especially when the current Spider-Man comics are increasingly tied to an outmoded status quo. Anyways, keep up the fantastic work!

Like, y’know his “Uncle Ben” moment was when he failed to save his universe’s Peter, right?” The only time Peter and Miles existing in the same universe together fully worked was in Spider-Man’s life story where Miles was being trained by Peter to replace him as Spider-Man so Peter could retire as he was an old man at the time.

    Ultimate Spider-Man volumes were all over my school and public libraries when I really became a comics fan as a middle schooler way back in the mid 2000s. I loved it as a contrast to the 616 and collected editions of the JMS works and Peter as a grown adult changing career paths. Teacher Peter with MJ and eventually Mayday being born would have been great but then Civil War and OMD happened. I remember being so upset and confused at the time as a 14yr old. But the Ultimate comics were so easily digestible and I can easily see how this line of comics are what helped solidify a new generation of Spider-Man fans. They had Amazing Friends in the 80's and the Stern run of comics. Millennials had the 90's show, the '02 film, and a fresh line of Spider-Man stories updated for modern sensibilities. Ultimate Spider-Man came out at the perfect time, and I wish Ultimate X-Men was remembered as fondly

    I just finished Peter's story in the Ultimate Universe, and I'm about to start reading it again before reading Miles Morales. The biggest complaint that I have with it is just how sudden stuff like his death or the Ultimatum event are. I loved the Spider-Man Ultimatum stories, but then going to the next issue and the timeskip and his fling with Gwen just really threw me off (Not complaining about the style change though, I LOVED that artstyle). I just wish Bendis was given/had taken more time to let Peter grow up just a bit. Give us some new stories with him going to college or something, but that's not what we got. Now with his ressurection and immortality, I don't even want to get that far into the Miles story, I mostly want to see what happens with Jessica, Gwen, MJ, and Aunt May. Either way, the original run is my favorite version of Peter, and I'm going to read the Spectacular run next.

    I hated how they handled the Gwen carnage incident. Its so dumb when writers kill the original character but replace them so its as if they never left but still that character isn't the real one and that death still lingers. The only time I have been somewhat okay with it was with Gaurdians of the Galaxy in Groot and thats because thats his son but they dont state that in the films which annoys me because then everyone isn't aware and then I thought Gamora was handled amazingly as they made her her one character so it wasn't full replacement.
    Btw no one talks about how Gwen is almost just as screwed over in any iteration like Peter like they never get a full happy ending together and when they get close some green freak comes in wheather Goblin or Jackal (or the one time Parker was a lizard) to ruin it.

    Fun fact: When Marvel faced bankruptcy back in the 90’s, ToyBiz bought Marvel and actually worked with them to create the Ultimate Universe. One of the members of Toybiz pointed out that Marvel has very iconic characters and that comic sales should’ve been up and he believed that it was hard for new readers to jump on because they had decades worth of continuity to read through and current readers needed something fresh to get them invested after the 90’s really made a mess of comics and burnt them out like when DC and Marvel were chasing the success of Image Comic and only looked at the stylish and edgy character designs. When the Ultimate Universe became a hit it also lead to ToyBiz to create a whole new line of Marvel figures that really took off and lead to Hasbro making their line of homage figures Marvel Legends.

My mom, being the magnificent person she is, paid for a mail-sub through Midtown Comics that I had been following uninterrupted since around issue 80 (with the big Barnes & Noble omni that ran through the Venom arcs and trades for everything else). This is around 2008 or so, social media isn't really a thing, smart tech isn't around, and I wasn't dialed into any of the forums or magazines. I was dead-ass convinced this was the end of the series that really got me into comics, and I was CRUSHED. It was when I was ~16 that I rediscovered that Ultimate was still going, just relaunched, and then they announced that the Death of Spider-Man was actually coming LOL. I, personally, think Ultimate MJ was a terrible character. She never get over her jealousy. She jealous when Peter finds Gwen attractive, she's jealous and beakes up with him when she moves into his house, she get really jealous of Kitty and Peter during the Morbious arc, like, MJ! he broke up with you! Get over it!. I don't think Peter realized how much of an a**hole MJ is. Sured, Peter might not be much better, but Kitty still loved him throughout the entire sereies. She never once left his side nor stopped loving him. The one time MJ seems to get over her jealousy is when she thinks Peter and Kitty are getting back together. I found Ultimate MJ insanly annoying and a jealous a**hole. She seemed to care about Peter, but was jelaous no matter what the situation was. I didn't like Ultimate MJ and she really brought the series down for me. I'm able to look past all the MJ stuff, though. I still think Ultimate Spider-Man is the best comic run and maybe the best comic series I've read from Marvel. I mean, it was the only reason Ultimate Marvel lasted as long as it did.
