This song really hits you when you’re in your 30’s. Seeing how our “friends” and real friends are after you’ve known them for 20 years. I’ve seen the worst and I have also seen the best. Cherish those young years.
I'm going on 30, and this song definitely feels way different than at 15. People I know from school have been murdered or murdered someone, died in car crashes, become addicts, gone through several marriages and had kids they weren't ready for. It all starts to hit you really hard.
This song only hits me cuz its one of the good songs of my fav band, nothing with the age .....wait , maybe 1 000 000 miles away was good too , but anyway
the most interesting fact is that Dexter Holland did something else after this....In 2017, Holland attained a PhD in molecular biology. it still blows my mind ;)
Wasn’t the biggest offspring fan ... UNTIL... A buddy took me to their concert on their first tour... SOLD!! They rocked from start to finish. Great band.
Bumping with an short story that I used to listen to The Offspring in my ears while doing downhill skeeing in Norway (where I'm from) at the age of 13-15 and seriously it fucking saved my life. Thanks for these reactions yall doing. Skål
I remember listening to this at 16 and I didn't really get it. Now I'm 37 I've got it for quite a while. I didn't really appreciate how fragile people's lives are and how they can change direction so quickly. Of all my friends I was all set to be the big career man in my early 20s and now I'm mediocre... I'm happy though. A couple of friends who made a lot of risky decisions (drugs, drinking, fighting, being stupid) have done REALLY well. Geniuses in college have ended up doing dead end jobs. It's all a big roulette because the situations we're in dictate our decisions we make at the time which in turn affects our future and it can spiral up or down.
I'm 48 now I've never had kids, life just seemed to work out that way for me. Annie reminds me of what it was like to be 14. I truly hope she is enjoying these years they go by so fast.
It’s a good song for a young teen to listen to. There’s a reality to the song that shows that unless you keep pushing yourself for a positive life - it could happen to anyone.
I really appreciate this man and the musical education is trying to convey to her daughter ! And I too, have goosebumps listening to "Master of puppets" or "the kids aren't alright". This song is truly special, with a very deep meaning.
Man this song hits home. I recently reconnected with some friends from when I was 13 going into highschool... it wasn't pretty. Half of them were on drugs, the other half were going nowhere. This is really a great song that I can appreciate now in my 30's looking back on the "good days"
I’ve been binging your videos and it makes me so happy to see you sharing your music with your daughter. If I had a dad, I’d hope that this is what we’d do! Keep up the videos! You both are awesome! 💜
If you have never seen these guys live I would highly recommend it. Maybe even bring her along, their show presence is amazing and very energetic and crowd interaction.
The first time i heard this song was when the album was released in 98, i was 13 and that song hit me like a ton of bricks. Love the reaction vids! All these songs bring me back to a great time in my life. Thanks so much for sharing!
I have an 18yo daughter to listens mainly to mainstream pop, but occasionally likes my “old man music”. Mind you I’m 43 with a severe liking of classic rock. She gets a kick out of little stories and bits of relevant information. I really like when she says “Hey, check this out ...” and it’s a cover from a classic rock or alternative song. When I show her the original, the look on her face is priceless. Congrats on being the coolest dad on UA-cam. Keep it up sir.
this song makes me think of the early 90s (even though it was released in the late 90s) hanging out with my slightly older cousins in the basement listening to tunes and just being one of "those" kids
I love this song and most of The Offspring songs. Disappointed they have had to postpone their concert here in Australia this year was looking forward to it in April
Even though your daughter looks like that maybe she doesn’t get it, once we are not around, she'll appreciate the fact that you let her be near something like this and spent time with you which I'm pretty sure she'll treasure later. Keep this up!
Dexter is his stage name, His first name is Bryan. They were my first concert when I was younger with my Uncle Sean. So They hold a HUGE part of my heart. I own every album thanks to him. 10/10 highly recommend taking her to see them live, they are amazing.
Nice. I've been playing my kids 80s and 90s music since they were in their mom's belly. They are reaching 7 and they are really really into it...Scary good.
This & gone away, maaan. So deep, so real. Amazing band. She'd appreciate what they are saying when she's older... She'll know friends who didn't achieve their dreams and get into drugs and stuff. We all know life's tough as an adult 😅 poor and rich can get in this trap. I was finally going to see them this June at Download festival UK but now who knows if that'll happen because of the virus 😢
I love you guys the show I'm a dad to a daughter that I used to love to share my music with now she's grown so it's not the same anymore but glad you guys are doing it
I find it funny people get upset when a teenager is drinking coffee. Children, prepubescent kids, drink one pop after another. It has caffeine, too. Learn to think, folks. I notice Annie is an introvert. She's very shy on camera, and I suppose this is why she says she gets stressed out during the Q&As, especially when dad is seemingly loud. Not intending to point out a flaw, it's simply the way some people are. I'm an introvert, so I can relate. And very attentive, in many situations. I see her as very different from her dad. She seems introspective instead of a party animal type, the characteristics of her dad. I think this is why many people like her so much. There's a dynamic between the two spectrums of behavior and thought. Very good reaction. Though I don't feel the music video is as well made as others seem to view it. Probably due to my own idea of what it would be like to place images and music together; I'd have chosen a less whacky style of visuals. Still, I enjoy your own thoughts, and your daughter's. Edit: I forgot to ask you and your daughter to react to "Wynonna's Big Brown Beaver" by Primus.
This channel is great, I love the fact that the kids are included, I don't have kids but if I did I'd be doing the exact same thing, probably not on UA-cam though. Please do the prodigy " firestarter " or maybe " breathe " one of the first electronic acts to cross over and win over alternative music fans. They've got a ton of songs to choose from but these two seem to have the biggest impact on a heavy listening audience. Keep up the great work, Love from Australia!
I've been listening to the offspring since the 90's and have always loved their music, my favorite metal band is iron maiden but I like all different types of music, I can totally relate to this song, I've experienced these things and I've had friends die who I grew up with, our life's are very fragile and we could be gone tonight and our friends and loved ones could be gone tonight or tomorrow. Thank you very much for this.
That shirt is awesome! 😂 I watched fast times on monday. Which is probably the 20,000th time I watched it. Also this song is on the "kayak" playlist for when we go kayaking. We always sing the whoa parts while cruising on the water and having a couple brews. Lol
I've lived in Garden Grove almost my whole life, I never knew he was from here. That's pretty sick. All my childhood friends have moved out of here, and some have gotten into trouble as well. this song hits differently now.
Her face in the first 20 seconds of the song was priceless haha. Offspring had some awesome songs, really loved their early stuff. Gone Away would be another great one.
If she likes the 2000's music, I'd love to see a reaction to Saosin I can tell there was an accident here OR Seven years the versions with Anthony Green.
She's super honest it's hilarious went to super tired I agree with you did the song gives me chills every time especially what we're going through right now in America crazy out there
Shawn Wacek She’s super honest, it’s hilarious when she is super tired. I agree with you, this song gives me chills every time. Especially with what we are going through right now in America, it’s crazy out there. * Tried to edit a bit for you
That's the biggest Starbucks drink I have ever seen!! Also I freaking love this song. I remember first listening to the CD when it came out and being surprised by this song. Every other song was light and cheery but this one was my favorite.
This song really hits home the place we would hangout is trashed I took my daughter to show her and it’s like what happened here we used to skate, drink, smoked (not me though) I wasn’t into it and we had a great time
As a high school teacher, if you want to learn just how smart your daughter is, don't tell her anything. Just ask questions that cannot be answered with "yes" or "no." You told her everything to think and then asked her if she would listen to the song (yes) (which would make my dad happy because he likes this song). This could've been a great learning moment (why "yes"?). Otherwise, loved the father/daughter time together and love the song.
I couldn't agree more. I would've loved to see what she would have taken from the song/video,just from her own observations. This is one of my favorite offspring songs. Ive been through this kinda thing. I can relate completely being in my late 30s
I had no idea he was from the same city I'm from, and that makes a lot of sense. I've experienced the same thing as in this song. The only kids who are now "successful" adults are kids who had relatively "healthy" families, and those were few and far between for a lot of us. As kids, we all had dreams but had no idea how poorly we were situated to actually succeed in life because of how our childhoods were. Also, at that time, the city was actually one of the "better" cities in that area with less crime, less poverty, etc. Imagine what adult lives were like for those from the other nearby cities.
My Brother saw them in concert forever ago and, until I bought him Brit Floyd tickets last year, he said it was the best show he'd ever seen. He said Brit Floyd was amazing and nothing can surpass that for him now. The best show I've ever seen was Alice Cooper since I didn't get to see Brit Floyd with him because of my anxiety.
It’s really shows that music connects with individuals and where you’re from. How you can be so connected to this kinda music but say that oasis’s first 2 album’s you weren’t a fan of blows my mind. (But im from England) Love the channel though mate 👍
It's interesting seeing these old videos. The daughter clearly didn't really understand the song but now 4 years ago, who knows, maybe now she gets it XD
You should have also mentioned that the guitarist's name is, Noodles. I'd like to see how Annie would react to "Self-esteem" by The Offspring. Now that's old school. It came out in like 1993-94. Dexter had long hair in braided dreadlocks.
It's rare that you get social realism in American pop culture in general, just because mainstream media is curated by corporate advertisers who want relentless optimism and focus on "aspirational" people. It's something built into Punk as a genre, because of the roots and history of Punk as a counter culture, anti-system movement, but of cpurse you also get gritty realism in rap and reggae and country (sometimes). But out of music of white origin, as it were, its the most consistently critical genre that's willing to dwell among poorer people's lives and experiences. And this song in particular - impressive all around.
Love the song. A little sad because it is so true to life. I can relate. Keep the videos coming. She would listen to this again but not Anthrax and Run DMC? 😮 Frank Turner - The Road or Four Simple Words or The Next Storm 😁
Hey, just started watching some of your reaction videos and they're very entertaining. It also seems like like you have a great family. BTW, The lead singer, Dexter Holland, is technically Dr. Dexter Holland now...he got his PhD in molecular biology in 2017. In an interview in 1995, he had said that he'd rather be a professor than play music (although, he would have got way less chicks! 😁)
"Rise Above It" from I Prevail ft. Justin Stone from the album Trauma. It's like a combination of rock, rap and dubstep. Epic masterpiece of a song! Insane lyrics. Can highly recommend for a review.
Just for the aspect of coffee.... I'm from Brazil, more specifically from the very very south. We drink Mate(has caffeine) since the moment we open our eyes, my mother gave us milk and coffee as breakfest, even public schools give you milk and coffee. Our standtards are based at max on the borders of our knowledge, and to continental self isolated countries like ours is normal to know just it. But relax, I know we kinda need to justify it to the main audiance and stuff, but it's all good. All brazilian are healthy drinking coffee since young age, It's amazing experience all types of music. But experience the cultural differences is absolutely mindblowing and amazing. Cheers man!
I can relate to this song different names but the same deal. Many from my hood did well but not without pain. They dug themselves out from heroin and cocaine addiction. And they were the lucky ones. I have 98 dead friends from alcohol and drugs.
For a comedy based kick y’all should listen and react to some Bowling for Soup!!! Think Annie might get a laugh out of it!!! By the way awesome job keep it up!!!
This song really hits you when you’re in your 30’s. Seeing how our “friends” and real friends are after you’ve known them for 20 years. I’ve seen the worst and I have also seen the best. Cherish those young years.
Clint Logan Well said! Makes me remember the ones I’ve lost along the way and also the ones who are still here thriving with me.
Yea it also hits when you had zero friends
I'm going on 30, and this song definitely feels way different than at 15. People I know from school have been murdered or murdered someone, died in car crashes, become addicts, gone through several marriages and had kids they weren't ready for. It all starts to hit you really hard.
Totally hits you later in life. Im in my 40s and I have a handful of my highschool friends.
This song only hits me cuz its one of the good songs of my fav band, nothing with the age .....wait , maybe 1 000 000 miles away was good too , but anyway

They rocked from start to finish. Great band.
This is a cool father, shows his daughter real music. Well done sir.
Amen!
@@discolightsavings he has a son too, why not show him? All thus music he's trying to show her is more dude music.
Ted Febo he does, look at his other videos
but this band is horrible. lol
Captain Hook you obviously have bad taste in music

100%
The offspring is great at doing upbeat music over real lyrics. It's one of the things I love about their music!
I'm 48 now I've never had kids, life just seemed to work out that way for me. Annie reminds me of what it was like to be 14. I truly hope she is enjoying these years they go by so fast.

Please show her Corey Taylors Acoustic live version of Snuff
And maybe the original before and make it one video?
No thanks
Yes!!! Definitely!! 🤘🤘
I would love that because that song is the opposite of what the majority of the Slipknot songs sound like
Or bother from the same concert both are amazing
I know that you've already reviewed it on your own but you should show her "Gone Away".
I grew up with this songs 90's and early 2000's. Thank you for reminding me how good it was sir. Thank you.
Heart shaped box reaction. Its an interesting video. Love to see pokey faces reaction to that.
Lol, pokey face

Agreed
Damn, the special effects in this video have stood up over time. This still looks great.
this song makes me think of the early 90s (even though it was released in the late 90s) hanging out with my slightly older cousins in the basement listening to tunes and just being one of "those" kids

She will revisit it when she needs to, I have done the same with my mothers music she recommended
Love the Mike Damone shirt... fast times is one of the best 80s movies.... love the offspring too
Lol, nice, I love it when I get call outs on my fun shirts.
I was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else picked up on it! That is bad ass.
Dexter is his stage name, His first name is Bryan. They were my first concert when I was younger with my Uncle Sean. So They hold a HUGE part of my heart. I own every album thanks to him. 10/10 highly recommend taking her to see them live, they are amazing.
I’ve herd this song 100 time and never really listened to the story in it. Rings so true with people become adults.
Nice. I've been playing my kids 80s and 90s music since they were in their mom's belly. They are reaching 7 and they are really really into it...Scary good.
The cruelest dream, reality.
Dang.
Dang I just realized I was about Annie's age when this song came out. It still doesn't seem like it was that long ago. Where has time gone?

Hey, my first and only Offspring show was 3 weeks before I turned 14, Oct 29, 2004. I’ve loved this band since I was 9
Great song! So many memories with The Offspring =)
You and Annie should react to the video of Bloodhound gang - The Bad touch! =D
This channel is great, I love the fact that the kids are included, I don't have kids but if I did I'd be doing the exact same thing, probably not on UA-cam though.

Nice; yah, that song gives me goosebumps too - a lot of their music does. I still keep coming back to the Smash album.
4:04 if anyone wanted to skip the talking
Yeah... not sure why he described the whole video to her... it ruins the experience and the message for a first time listener.
Goo Annie 😄 you can ask her a 20 min long question and she say ...yeah 😂😂😂😂 great songand reaction guys!hugs and stay healthy / safe ✌🏻
One of the best rock songs ever, have it on a playlist and listen to it often
I really like Annie. She seems like such a cool kid. I was quiet at her age, so I can relate. I hope she's enjoying the music. :)
Let's hope she understands what these moments mean when she gets older. She's really having precious moments with her dad.
@@OscarVargas I think so. She doesn't need to value it now, but later she will definetly. We all were the same more or less. ^^

That shirt is awesome! 😂 I watched fast times on monday. Which is probably the 20,000th time I watched it. Also this song is on the "kayak" playlist for when we go kayaking. We always sing the whoa parts while cruising on the water and having a couple brews. Lol
Always loved this song never saw the video ... In fact didn't even know they had a video for this song ... Equally as awesome video with this song
This is my all my years as a teem, in the form of one song. Such a great message!
Saw them live last year..just as energetic and sounded amazing.
Love your passion for the old stuff . Rock on !
Don't comment much, but awesome channel and during this time its needed more than ever.
Best wishes to you and your family.
Love the t shirt lol.
If she likes the 2000's music, I'd love to see a reaction to Saosin I can tell there was an accident here OR Seven years the versions with Anthony Green.
You guys make a great team. I hope you continue with the regular videos.
She's super honest it's hilarious went to super tired I agree with you did the song gives me chills every time especially what we're going through right now in America crazy out there

One of my favourite bands of all time, Great reaction guys! cheers and rock ya later.
I love that song. Gives me the chills also. Glad she liked it🤘🇦🇺🇦🇺
This song was the theme song for Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show.
Loved this album!! Still do, listened to it the other day. :)
It's only a 3 minute or so song, but that did stop a little short of the end.
Love this song and the entire album it’s on.
That's the biggest Starbucks drink I have ever seen!! Also I freaking love this song. I remember first listening to the CD when it came out and being surprised by this song. Every other song was light and cheery but this one was my favorite.

Good for you pops. Teaching Annie how start & run a business with her Patreon involvement. 🏆
Another gem. Takes me straight back to those golden childhood years..
A song about how the neighborhood is broken and all these kids grew up to have sucky lives.
Great tune, love the shirt. New to your channel. Fun times!
I had no idea he was from the same city I'm from, and that makes a lot of sense. I've experienced the same thing as in this song. It's interesting seeing these old videos. The daughter clearly didn't really understand the song but now 4 years ago, who knows, maybe now she gets it XD
Amazing those songs and current relevance. Thanks 2020 :(
This song is my life so I feel every emotion from this video I'm sorry I couldn't finish.. But it hurts to much...
I hear you.. This song always destroys me.. I can't stop tho
My 18-yo daughter absolutely loves this Offspring song. I think she uses it as motivation honestly.
Sure brought some mems back. Oh boy. Love it. Cheers dudes.
Dad tested , Annie approved 👍
great song and nice explanation you gave her cause a lot of music is saying real stuff. and better to drink a coffee then a energy drink so thumbs up.
I like Iceland in the background 🇮🇸😍
and your reaction too 👍
I to love The Offspring! And this video is just killer!!!
Saw them live twice. Awesome show
You should have also mentioned that the guitarist's name is, Noodles. I'd like to see how Annie would react to "Self-esteem" by The Offspring. Now that's old school. It came out in like 1993-94. Dexter had long hair in braided dreadlocks.

Frank Turner - The Road or Four Simple Words or The Next Storm 😁
90s had awesome music!
Hey, just started watching some of your reaction videos and they're very entertaining. It also seems like like you have a great family. In an interview in 1995, he had said that he'd rather be a professor than play music (although, he would have got way less chicks! 😁)
Dude that shirt rocks!! Totally love fast times!!
"Rise Above It" from I Prevail ft. Justin Stone from the album Trauma. It's like a combination of rock, rap and dubstep. Epic masterpiece of a song! Insane lyrics. Can highly recommend for a review.
One of the greatest music videos of all time.
Having your kids out so early is a proper "Glitch in the Matrix" ;)
This is one of my fav offspring songs.
She’ll probly like come out and play and self esteem
Cheers man!
Bad habit
I can relate to this song different names but the same deal. Many from my hood did well but not without pain. They dug themselves out from heroin and cocaine addiction. And they were the lucky ones. I have 98 dead friends from alcohol and drugs.
