I like watching you guys because you present exercises regular busy people can do at home everyday with very little time to do it. Not big complicated plans that take forever and exercises that only totally fit people would be doing. Keep up the good work!
I am 54 and I weigh 235 (I graduated High school at 225), I Squat, Deadlift, Clean and Jerk and Bench Press...1715 pound totals. I do interval sprints 4 times a week for 30 minutes (warmup is 8 minutes) getting my HR as high as 186 BPM. My energy is through the roof after my sprints. I have been sprinting for the past 20 years and feel great. No aches, no pain and zero injuries.
I don't know if you have ever done HIIT in a gym but in my experience they do not just let you burst for 20sec. At home I do it on the bike, but in HIIT they definitely push out the workout part more than the resting part in my experience.
The gym's I have been working out in don't want people to do HITT, they like members to stand around doing weights & making the place look full. And spending time with classes and paying extra for personal training sessions. Beginner's need it, then you can do your own program of HITT in the gym. I attended a gym for 16 years, now I have kettle bells and a stepper machine in the garage with a weight bench, punch bag and an assortment of other stuff collected over the years. Everyone needs to understand that when they get older, they need to keep moving and have strong muscles. People in care homes get lazy and let the staff do more for them, then they no longer are able to move for themselves, ending up being hoisted to the toilet and rolled in bet to have their pad changed. So please everyone, keep strength training and keep moving.
@@BobandBrad During quarantine we may not be able to run as may be recommended. If we were to replace running with mountain climbers or burpees how many would we need to do to reach a half mile in running?

Intermittent work is also beneficial in folks coping with osteoarthritis of the knee as it gives time for hyaluronic acid to seep into the joint. I love this, because they remind me of my gym teachers in school. Before technology took over our lives it seemed that physical activity was the way of life. We moved our bodies when we were bored and we were fit because we walked everywhere. I miss that.
Yeah, me too I miss the old times when we weren't so lazy and fat and stupid, when we didn't spend all the time watching stupid clips on UA-cam and writing idiotic comments. I wish smartphones were never invented so we can walk outside and practice sports instead of social media dumbing us down.
I gotta thank you guys for this. I always equated interval training with sprints and every time I tried it I would pop a hammy (bad enough that you could almost *HEAR* it pop!) within two weeks. Stopped altogether after the third time it happened. I never thought to try something something less ballistic! Thanks! You guys are the best!!
I’m a runner and cyclist who for more than two years of experience side pains, lower back pains and lower abdominal pains. Your videos showed me how important stretching is and how stupid I was to this fact. Being over 50 years of age and running three times a week, cycling almost every day and thinking I’m just as fit as a 21 year old. I living in a fantasy world. After two months of implementing your exercises or better integrating them into my daily routine the pain has disappeared. I really appreciate the information that you have made available and would like to thank you.
Some people are just in denial about age, feeling younger because of diet, exercise doesn't mean we're, age is not just a number, it's a reality and you have to adapt to it.
When i was in my late 40's i was doing HIIT training on my bike for 25-30 minutes a session. my doctor said i STILL had an elite athletes engine. This training kicks your ass,but it works!

Sharing with a friend who also is looking for a excersise routine. I think we can do 9 min!! Thank you. You guys sure helped me when my shoulder froze!! God bless you!!
I do something similar on the treadmill called a time ladder. I'm sure it would work for biking, as well. I lost 60 pounds in under a year just doing this two times per week. I modified the times as I got in better shape, but you get the gist. Warm up (5:00) 1:00 fast :30 slow 2:00 fast 1:00 slow 3:00 fast 1:30 slow 4:00 fast 2:00 slow 3:00 fast 1:30 slow 2:00 fast 1:00 slow 1:00 fast Cool down (5:00)
Not sure why this is getting recommended so many years later, but one should be careful with the information being (mis)represented. While HIIT training does have benefits, the study has a few issues that limit how the results should be interpreted: 1. it only had 27 people, of which only 19 were outside the control group 2. it only looked at men 3. the men were all sedentary and "generally deemed inactive based on an International Physical Activity Questionnaire score of less than 600 MET-minutes per week" 4. it was on bikes, not running. You can't extrapolate those two exercises as being equal. 5. the "all-out" was based on Subjective feeling and not on an Objective measure, while the longer biking was based on an Objective measure (70% "max" heart rate) and not a Subjective one. Using two different measuring techniques can give disparate results. 6. given the participants were inactive prior to the study, their relative exertion will be lower than those who are regularly active (one example would be those in shape are more easily able to push themselves to their limit or hold a steady pace than a person who is not, and they are more likely to match their subjective feeling of exertion with an objective measure). 7. training high intensity vs endurance will cause differential development of muscles and cardiovascular health (e.g., sprinters' bodies adapt to the toll of sprinting, while endurance runners' bodies adapt to the toll of endurance running). 8. sprinting and endurance have differing tolls on the body regarding calories, sodium, magnesium, and the like Again, this is not to say that HIIT is not effective; I am merely stating that this video is taking the study a bit out of context and is overstating the actual results and efficacy.
Dear Bob and Brad. I thank God that I found your channel on UA-cam. Thank you for displaying the most important quality of being kind and giving to others…empathy for all people. God bless you and your families for your willingness to make a difference. ❤️
They are not doctors. They are physical therapists. Chiropractors can call themselves doctors, but physical therapists cannot... unless they have a doctorate in physical therapy( DPT). My husband retired after 48 years as a physical therapist. He tried hard to clarify this very important distinction to people who called him doctor. Also, he never wanted to be confused for a chiropractor!
Bob and Brad, your cheesy humour reminds me of my dad, you guys are the best in a dad-joke kind of way! And with so much negativity on the internet, you guys rock!! ❤
Yes mitochondria increased. This isn’t just for time savings, it also saves wear and tear on the body- pounding the pavement for 45min for your heart when you could just jump rope or use a stationary cycle for 9 is an obvious benefit as well. Sprinting bad idea for bone health unless you’re a kid!
Interval training certainly been part of my training regime, for a number of years. Reap those benefits. Resting and recovery heart rate much better than without. Cheers gents keep up the great work. From the UK.

Dear Bob and Brad. Thanks for highlighting this study on your channel. I am realizing cardio and weight loss results in using it everyday for two weeks. I’m not sure what variables on this study were found, but I usually add an additional HIT cycle or two. Using a spinning bike I also have to add more friction on the 20 second intervals. Thanks! Much appreciated. Steve

Has an infomercial vibe haha
All B&B’s videos are this good!
ILLUSTRATION????
It's basically Birdman
Hi Bob and Brad, recently my back pain got very untolerable and I came across your channel. It's been a week trying to do your advices on back pain related videos and I am feeling a significant relief already. It's amazing to be pain free. Thank you very much.
Any updates on your pain? Caus mine's gonna kill me it seems
These videos have been immeasurably helpful to me over the years. I also share them with grateful friends.
Its called "Interval Training" and has been used for decades by many athletes.
I luv when Brad makes comments like "gettin the wife all excited" and then gets in trouble with Bob...so fun to watch!
This is amaaaazing lol
I was walking everyday for years, until I developed bursitis in my hips, and could no longer do it. I started doing strethes these guys demonstrated, and viola! No more bursitis.
I'm going to add this to my daily walking now. I did "Insanity" before, but it became too much. This is doable. Thanks, guys!
I taught this format in my aqua fit class this morning! It was so hard, but they all loved it! I will keep this in my weekly rotation. Thanks!!!
Omg I miss aqua fit so much. It felt like amazing exercise (I was always knackered afterwards!) but we used to laugh so much. I should see if it’s restarted after Covid restricts eased..
Wondering how it is all going now?
Thanks!
OMG that's crazy! Thank you very much! Positive vibes sent your way!!
Bob
Thank you for not being misleading in the title. I can't wait to go jogging on my bike tomorrow for one minute of nine minutes exercise.
Love this. 9 minutes is so doable and I love choosing my own movements. Thanks!!
It’s called HIIT (high intensity interval training)
That is correct!
I did HIIT at Orange Theory Fitness and got myself in the best shape of my life UNTIL I got sciatica along with torn rotator cuffs from the rowing machine.
I had suffered from sciatica and flat feet for years. I've been playing football since I was 4 till I was 18 at a large gridiron southern school. Now I'm in the process of becoming a Marine and Bob and Brad have been life savers! I can run 5 miles nonstop without feeling like my ankles are gonna snap off!
Thank you for your service..Stay safe.
@@janc8199 We're not drafted anymore, but much appreciation. I leave November 8th. I'm running 8 miles now so boot camp won't be horrific for me lol
I hope your dreams of becoming a marine are coming true. Good luck and thank you
@@donnalawrence9054 Thank you so much, my dreams in fact are coming true. In all honesty I hope to become a Marine Raider once I become a Sgt
That was the 1st time I heard that intro song, and I truly love it! I appreciate the content and guidance that you provide. Thank you!
As a retired physiotherapist (in Canada, eh/!) I completely understand your need to be liked. Thanks for sharing this interesting study. Intermittent work is also beneficial in folks coping with osteoarthritis of the knee as it gives time for hyaluronic acid to seep into the joint. Well that's my theory as the greatest retired therapist responding to this UA-cam. Thanks for sharing guys. It's good to cry about the rejection complex. Another example of the value of viscous secretions.
The "bed burpee" modification might actually get me doing burpees again. Thanks!
Thanks for supporting my music career 🎶 I'm so greatful and I hope you never stop being a fans,I would like to honour you by giving you my other private email address if that's ok by you🥰
they reminded me of Bert and Ernie... They added some humor to this which was fun to watch and yes great exercise when you're home bound in the winter during a snowy day... Great video thank you
Bert and Ernie, ha ha ha! How about Big Bird, and Osker the grouch!
I love this, because they remind me of my gym teachers in school. Before technology took over our lives it seemed that physical activity was the way of life. We moved our bodies when we were bored and we were fit because we walked everywhere. I miss that.
So true!

Yes exactly. Everyone is so lazy now unfortunately and everyone is complaining they are not able to lose weight 😂😂🙊🤷♀️
i'm really curious about WHY you cant do it now, drop your stupid phone and do it.
Yeah, me too I miss the old times when we weren't so lazy and fat and stupid, when we didn't spend all the time watching stupid clips on UA-cam and writing idiotic comments. I wish smartphones were never invented so we can walk outside and practice sports instead of social media dumbing us down.
"'Fartleks' I never really understood it"
"I never really understood it either"
😂😂😂😂
You guys work good together; you're both very informative, and the ad-libbed humor is an added bonus. Thanks for the video/information.
Still today your videos are helping people ! They have helped me so much ! Thank you !
When i was in my late 40's i was doing HIIT training on my bike for 25-30 minutes a session. my doctor said i STILL had an elite athletes engine. This training kicks your ass,but it works!
I believe it. I'm an inconsistent POS and high intensity stuff makes my blood pressure and everything very athlete level.
I was at my fittest at 42/43...Dr had trouble finding my BP as my resting heart rate was like an elite athelete she said lol...
Cool beans! Im disabled and have bad feet. So walking is out. I think I can try this, Il start out easy, and try to build up. Im glad to find this.

How can you not click the ‘like’ button?
Not sure why this is getting recommended so many years later, but one should be careful with the information being (mis)represented. While HIIT training does have benefits, the study has a few issues that limit how the results should be interpreted:
1. it only had 27 people, of which only 19 were outside the control group
2. it only looked at men
3. the men were all sedentary and "generally deemed inactive based on an International Physical Activity Questionnaire score of less than 600 MET-minutes per week"
4. it was on bikes, not running.
8. sprinting and endurance have differing tolls on the body regarding calories, sodium, magnesium, and the like
Again, this is not to say that HIIT is not effective; I am merely stating that this video is taking the study a bit out of context and is overstating the actual results and efficacy.
That intro is a meme waiting to be born
Make one and send it to us on Instagram:) OfficialBobandBrad. If we like it we will share it:)
It's very cool that low impact and easy exercise can be as effective as high intensity!
I really like hints of short time exercises that bring good results. Time is precious, thank you for showing this technique.
Fantastic🎉🎉🎉, 10 minutes, my max workout limit.❤❤❤
Dear Bob and Brad.
I thank God that I found your channel on UA-cam. Thank you for displaying the most important quality of being kind and giving to others…empathy for all people. God bless you and your families for your willingness to make a difference. ❤️
Appreciate learning how to do age appropriate exercises from these two doctors. They are knowledgeable and concerned for folks.
Age appropriate exercises? Lmfaooooo
Lovely duo. The light conversations n the high info backed with scientific study. Loved the energy n the video n the info. Thank u guys😊
Great illustration! I’ve been using HIIT training for several years and it is a game changer. Great stuff! Thanks
Bob and Brad, your cheesy humour reminds me of my dad, you guys are the best in a dad-joke kind of way! And with so much negativity on the internet, you guys rock!! ❤
I can't put my finger on it but you guys are so damn funny! I love watching your videos 🙏 Thanks 😊
The Seinfeld episode is "The Airport" from season 4. I also think of that whenever I lift my knees 😂
Sprinting is bad for your bones???
@@jarrettpierce5626
For knees, yes.
sprinting is good for your bones,.....if your worried about your knees ,wear a heavily paded running shoe,.....and run on the grass.
Lol it's like watching an SNL skit 😂. Good information though!
It is actually fairly endearing just how dorky you guys are while providing reasonably good advice.
“Brad! It’s a family show” 😂 these guys are funny.
I subbed for the intro song alone, seeing somebody's dads exercise was just a bonus
Somebody else’s dads 😂🤣
wow, first 1:14 seconds I subscribed. This being my first time ever seeing or hearing of these two gents.
"Brad it's a family show!" I LOL'ed at that, you guys are the best!

OR IS ITTTTTT????
I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to find these two, they are absolute gems! Great info, down to earth and great rapport.
Interval training certainly been part of my training regime, for a number of years. Reap those benefits. Resting and recovery heart rate much better than without. Cheers gents keep up the great work. From the UK.
This was the most awkward thing I have ever watched on youtube........ I'll subscribe!
Ryan Proulx 🤣
Right!!😂🤣🤣
Me too.
You lot are funny!!😊😉💙
I would have hurt myself ages ago if it weren’t for your videos! Thank you for all your guidance! Appreciate both of you so much! 🙏🏽
Lol that was funny before bed 🤣 family show.. you guys are great 👍
I started watching your videos because of your theme song alone. ☺️😂
ok, these guys are my latest UA-cam faves! These guys give good info and make me laugh. Blows my mind that they can do all those exercises and still chit chat l like they are sitting down chillin'!!
Why do you look like the great value version of kris Jenner
I love these guys... Brad, "Oh yeah" LOL.
They ARE my inner nerdy self, love it all!
First time watcher...not only is that one of the funniest intros (thought this was a parody show) but your insights are incredible. Thanks.
Steve
*Brad:* "...And get my wife all excited..."
*Bob:* "Brad! It's a family show."
😂😂😂
"BRAD ITS A FAMILY SHOW!!" lmao
You two are my most FAVORITE physical therapists on the internet! You are my GO TO GUYS!
Watching all this and I'm still on my bed :D
Ding Ding m
Do not worry. i shall shut down the laptop for you.
Energy saving for you.

Cacti me too
"We can just fix about anything..... except a broken heart" Wow guys im a L5-S1 case. U gave me back my confidence....
Good to know
Same problem here
Reminds me of the 60 120s when I was in the military. Full on sprint for 60 seconds light jog for 120 seconds. Rinse and repeat as many rounds per stamina levels :)
This two are amazing I found their channel just on the last few years . Breaks my heart 💔 to see how things declined for Bob in such a short time 😢. Now Bob is working behind the camera 🎥. God Bless Bob for all he’s going through and still keeps on working to stay strong and not letting his healthy challenges beat down his attitude towards straying strong and staying positive. I have much love and respect for you Bob 🙏🏼😢🙏🏼. ♥️🙏🏼♥️
Delightful to watch them having fun exercising - makes a change from all those muscly guys fitness fanatics videos - I watched this slurping my coffee with cake and cookies - Haha
Like the Tabata training: 20 second max-10 seconds rest; repeat 5 sets. whatever exeercise you are doing. Short Tabata time equates to long workout
You don’t burn that many calories though 🤔
32 and i just started doing interval sprinting again for the first time since highschool. im in pretty good shape from lifting and cycling, resting heart rate is in the 50s sometimes 40s but even still sprinting is a whole different thing. the intensity is insane. ive only been doing it once a week and ive only done it 3 times and already noticed drastic improvement in leaning out and the performance when i do the intervale sprinting.
I'm so glad this video was still on, thank you. I'm learning a whole lot of bad things I've been doing wrong all my life.
Landed on you guys looking at relief with the rib pain (costochondritis). Now I've watched several videos. You guys are a hoot. With great info. And a Good Doctor is a great show. Subscribed!
You guys are awesome thanks so much. I’m in my 60s now and from years of football, weight training and martial arts I’ve got some bad knees so walking or doing the treadmill is really hard. Doing this on a bicycle is excellent! I tried it once and I’m hooked. Keep up the great work guys, thank you so much.
“ I didn’t read the studies so I don’t know what they had” 🤣
There's dad jokes, dad dancing and now dad exercising! Very interesting video. Thank you.
I have spinal stenosis (thanks to my physical therapist, Bob, & Brad, I am doing well) and I am *so impressed* at how well Brad does the mountain climbers! You are an inspirtation!
thanks for making all these videos. it has helped with my back pain using exercises you've shown in past.
