    Hey Sofie! Your tutorials are helping me a lot. Although I'm skating over wheels, the phisycs is quite similar and there aren't as much tutorials for roller as there are for ice skating. Your videos are soo well-explained that it gets easier to do it! I'm kinda old for a starter (17), but I hope to be good enough to compete around here- and the flexibility tutorials are soooo useful!
    Such a shame there're no ice rinks where I live.. Cheers from Brazil! ♡ and thank you once again!

      I must admit that I also like your video ! also a rollerskater ! :-) I have been struggling with backwards cross overs for a long time. And finally I have been able to manage it. And from your clips I can learn even more :-) I am going to check more of your videos !

    Started lessons in September and I'm addicted.
    It took me forever to get my backwards crossovers, but we usually do them by lifting the foot as it seems easier for begginners.
    I would add, for the back crossover, stand like you're on an invisible chair, and skate with the middle-front of your blade. Intant regret when you lay on the back.
    I still struggle with spins: can't stand straight enough and stay on the ball of foot. I end up with an ugly turn thingy on the toe picks >_

      For two foot spin, it really helps if you're imagining yourself being pulled up, right and left (well, you literally try to pull urself right and left by stretching your hands :3) that really helps get your balance!
      I just started two foot spin myself and this really helps :D

    You're very good at anticipating questions, I was going to ask where you put the weight during the spin, but you answered that right at the end of the video. Not the first thing you addressed just 2 seconds after I thought it.

    Thank you so much!!! I'm finally on my right side splits (and very close to my left side), and I can do a quite nice dancer's pose (I don't have enough shoulder mobility for a full Biellman yet) and it's mostly thanks to you!! I'm very glad you're doing ice skating tutorials as well. I'd love it if you could do a simple jumps tutorial (I'm on working on toe and salchow, my waltz jump is decent, but any kind of jumps help would be great). I seem to not be able to get rid of the fear of jumping backwards... I know it's super silly!
    Thank you very much any way!! I could watch you do even just those half crossovers for hours, you make them so elegant!!

    • @Sofabar
      @Sofabar  6 років тому

      So glad to hear that my videos have been helpful to you! I will definitely get on the jump videos :) And no I don't think it's silly! I completely understand your fear, but for me it was jumping forward into the double Axel jump. I lost my double Axel for two years, but now it's stronger than ever! :) Just takes time and faith in yourself!

    This is a great video ^_^ I was wondering if you could possibly make a video on tips for a scratch spin and lay back spin? I can get the general feel for it but my body seems to seize up (like I might not have the strength possibly) when trying to get my leg to cross over for a scratch spin

    • @Sofabar
      @Sofabar  6 років тому +1

      I will definitely do a video on the scratch spin soon, and for the layback probably a bit later :) Your leg probably just needs more strength, maybe try to go a bit slower and also do some legs exercises off ice :)

    For the two foot spin should I have my weight equally distributed on both my skates? When I do it my weight is on both of my rockers on both skates but I end up wobbling or stopping after two revolutions?

    Where did you get your skates from?
    I'm trying to get some skates and I have no idea where to start. People say never buy online because its hard to find a good fit, but there's very little resources where I live to actually buy good skates or any at all. And if I buy it online then I'll have to put it together and I have NO idea how to do that

    • @Sofabar
      @Sofabar  6 років тому

      Graf! I buy mine online, but my trainer puts them together. Is there no hockey/skating shop near you? Maybe they can do it for you?

    • @KassieJane
      @KassieJane 6 років тому

      Online. It is hard to gauge the fitting, but if there's no store near you, you don't really have a choice. Ladies adult skates sometimes run a tiny bit bigger than normal shoes. So if you normally wear a 7.5 for example, you'll probably fit a 7. I recommend Riedell, they've got good options for beginners at doable prices. Check the size charts carefully. Usually you can buy them with the blade attached, and if not, then there is probably a service at your rink that can do it.

    • @paulasfigureskating5612
      @paulasfigureskating5612 5 років тому

      Emo FanGirl, I have Riedell 910 Flair boots, and my coach attached Coronation Ace blades. If you buy Riedell boots, make sure to get them heat molded at your local pro shop so that you will have a custom fit.

  • @jurottluff2364
    @jurottluff2364 6 років тому

    How do you gain enough momentum for the spin? I can't really spin more than 3-4 rotations until I stop.

    • @Sofabar
      @Sofabar  6 років тому +3

      Try to push more at the beginning. Also you may be pulling your arms into the rotation too quickly, which will send the center off. So try pulling a little bit more gradually :)

    • @CV39497
      @CV39497 6 років тому

      Yes, try bending your knee deeper when doing the entrance, then coming up on the knee as you spin! Pulling the arms in will also make you go faster, but make sure you are centered first.

    haha I tend to look like one of those weeble wobble toys when I try 2 foot spins xD but I have a sensory disorder than includes a lot of balance problems, so I've got a bit to fight against when it comes to figure skating. (and being a toe walker means on ice I tend to always lean too far forward cause I'm used to walking on my toes a lot for sensory reasons xD) just started FS last Fall, and we tackled forward crossovers, but I'm so awful with backwards stuff we never got to backwards crossovers...your tutorials are easy to follow, so I may try them some on my own time outside of lessons, I think! :D
