The old guy laughing while crying "oh no" is such a complex reaction; it's a mix of disassociation and grief. Everyone else laughs because they are so broken they use humor as a cooping mechanism. I feel like I’ve been listening to music for a thousand years. Every five or ten years everyone goes mad saying someone is an absolute genius who has managed by chance to put their finger on the zeitgeist of their moment. This guys finger is never on his moment, it spans a universality that has to mean something to everyone who listens and ought to compel them to be better or answer should they feel they can’t. Imagine if he had been painting chapel ceilings in the renaissance! They’d have hidden shapes of anatomical discoveries amongst subversive images that contradict the orthodoxy of the person that commissioned the painting. Genuine genius holds a mirror to us (the zeitgeist touchers) while also showing us a route from the past to a more reasonable future. That’s why there are so few geniuses as most gifted people can’t do both. I hate agreeing with people and I almost exclusively like punk music but people need to watch this person and listen to his words.
Choreographer is Shay Latukolan, one of the best pop and lockers out there. Director is Hiro Murai, DG's long time collaborator since the 3005 music vid. This man can dance, sing, act, rap, write, do comedy, produce... A literal LEGEND
And has a solid stand-up career
It is commendable and impressive to do all the things. Not a huge fan of his thoughts, but can't deny the work ethic and improvements!
Man’s been a legend
A real modern day renaissance man
Wdym in the making
I don’t think the world’s gonna realize how intelligent and creative Childish Gambino is until 10-20 years from now.
He is a frackin genius
I hope it doesn't take that long
this song sounds straight up like paper planes by MIA…
He's a more subtle version of ye!
@@snuffkinzzand the record for worlds longest reach goes too..
Channeling his inner Cab Calloway.
The whole song from the 1st 5 seconds to the dogs barking and howling to the end is saying "we still doing it." Don't miss this message. Word for word.. scene to scene!!!
another story where someone's art supernaturally protects them from gun violence. i love this message. the old man laughing while also wincing out a "no" is highly relatable.

@@EPiQ_cR OH SHIT I just now realized from reading your comment that he's the dude that tells that white kid to spell n**f** in that old sketch. Maybe at some point I knew that but forgot? LOL if so who can blame me I mean the man's had so many phases of differing categories.
@@steveandhishobbies Look up Jerry from Derrick Comedy (same sketch troupe). It's so gross but young Donald's acting is so impeccable in this skit.
And me over here just wanting him to reunite with Abed.
Song Nr. 1 so far. The last decade😘
The most captivating man in music. Genius.
I can’t get over how beautiful the videography and lighting are. The entire team did a great job to get the gritty, charged film noir atmosphere. Childish always steals any scene he is in. I love how he uses his background as a comedic actor to deliver his art. It would be so cool to see behind the scenes of this MV
right?! cinematically good
Just the words I was preparing to write. Spot on.
The old guy laughing while crying "oh no" is such a complex reaction; it's a mix of disassociation and grief. Everyone else laughs because they are so broken they use humor as a cooping mechanism. Which Is the underlying message of the song; children forced to normalize the traumatic loss of a father and just expecting them to move past it.

Refuse to enjoy life till something bad happens, then when bad things happen, we act like it didn't and seek an immediate distraction from the subject.
Donald Glover is one of the few people who doesn't need to constantly be dropping content to stay relevant. He comes, gives us art, leaves and everything is good. Such a talent.
When I say “bring back music videos”, this what I’m talkin bout 🔥
Hello. Have you accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?
what you mean is bring back creativity. bring back time and effort. only a few seems to want to do that.
a music video used to be revelatory. glad to see some artists still feel that feel. #respect
YES
The rkelly and isley brother videos!! ❤😂
This man used to be a rapper. Now he is some kind of prophet or oracle or something.

He’s more than just a rapper. He’s a true artist 🫡
he always was a crazy talented musician. calling him just a rapper feels insulting
One of the dumbest comment I've ever seen
Chill bro
not a song that i’d listen to over & over but this masterpiece absolutely blew me away. such a powerful message.. Thank you, Donald.
New Kendrick music, new childish gambino music, it’s a good year.
New Drake music too. I know yall hate him for some reason now but his music is tough

Choreographer is Shay Latukolan, one of the best pop and lockers out there. Director is Hiro Murai, DG's long time collaborator since the 3005 music vid. I'm always intrigued at the way Gambino performs. His dancing and facial expressions make it hard to look away.

Representative of the evolution of black American music. Misinterpreted and misunderstood by the masses. The death of the ignorant. The acceptance and beautification of an art form. And the eventual modernization. This is awesome

The black mirror of hip hop…poetic
It's not that deep
love this analogy ❤
I feel like he's just blatantly calling out the rap community for glamorizing the ghetto, the struggle, being criminals, and trying to turn that into entertainment and an identity. "You could literally kill people but people will dance to it if the bars hit hard enough and if you aint bein violent, they dont care for it, they dont wanna talk about it"
Facts❤
the fact that they started liking the same song they weren't fucking with, because of something completely unrelated to it
is it the rap community or is it American ? because the police and the military are the biggest celebrities when it comes to violence being celebrated
Yea, I liked how he hit that message home with the featuring deepthroating line at the end. SO DEEP
Then you are 25% right? Congratulations 🎉?
CG writing yet another metabanger with critiques of the industry, its history, & the audience. Damn.
I loved this so much, the aesthetic and vibe gave me Idlewild type vibes. If only more black artists were like this. He mixed the perfect balance between old and new. Out standing! 👏
I don't have the mental capacity to really appreciate this dude's music/art.
All good bro, just enjoy it and dance it out. 🎉
This is so real, I’m here scrolling through the comments because I wanna get it so bad but I also just don’t know how to think like that
I don’t think it’s about mental capacity. I think it’s more about how this song is trash as fuck. It ends there. I appreciate redbone all the time. There’s a difference.
Saying that alone opens the door to new understandings.
Keep studying
Moral lesson: people like violence, more than a straight, clean performance but as we know childish gambino there is obviously alot of meanings to this one
People went to a bar with entertainment because they enjoy violence more than entertainment? That's probably as fucking stupid as the actual message intended from the black actor turned "rapper" with the white wife and mixed kids that bitches about white people in the media.
Exactly.
This definitely what I took from it, brought back the vibe from "This is America" 😵💫
Oh yes. There is so much meaning to derive from this. This means you’re just a little bit stupid. If you look at this as much more than a catchy tune, a cash grab and push for more fame, with a bit of aesthetically pleasing videography then 🤷♂️

Actually they started giving energy when he was moving like a Sambo in the 2nd verse, then they really came alive when the guy got shot. If you notice the man who started the uproar of joy was kind of reminiscent of Samuel L's character in Django Unchained - "Steven"
