    ** What's with the necklaces?
    Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
    See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
    Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
    **A Whisk(e)y school?
    Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
    ** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
    Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
    Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
    It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
    ** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
    Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
    The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
    ** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
    There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
    Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
    There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
    Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

      Glen Livet 12 is the green bottle and not the newer Double Oak. The green bottle Glen Livet 12 appears to be harder to find as it seems to be in the process of being replaced by GL12 Double Oak. Store websites show both the double oak and the green bottle as interchangeable so careful.

    I just mixed some Nikka Yoichi Single Malt with some Maker's Mark. It turned out pretty good. The sweetness of the MM balanced out the Yoichi's smokiness nicely. The end product was quite smooth and joyful.

    Another blend idea for you guys. Expand it between regions. Take scotch and blend it with bourbon, etc.
    For example, everyone always talks about how much they love Monkey Shoulder. So i just went and got my second bottle of it. I greatly disliked my first bottle i had about 3 years ago. Cracked open the new one and im still not a fan. (Its weird because i like Glenfiddich and Glenlivet so there isnt a reason i should dislike Monkey Shoulder.)
    Now i have a bottle of something i dont really want to drink... but i also dont want to waste perfectly good whisky.
    So i just went 50/50 with Monkey Shoulder and a little bit of Larceny bourbon i had left over. Holy shit its amazing now.
    Im almost out of Larceny, so i might have to use my Maker’s Mark moving forward.
    Anyways, do a fun blend for me by actually mixing regions. Blend an Irish with a Rye, or a Canadian a Japanese.
    Get weird with it.

    • @acturner8
      @acturner8 6 років тому

      There are 50 others I would buy again before buying another Monkey Shoulder. It was just okay, and not what I expected with so many people ranting and raving about it - I am not a fan of blended Scotch anyway, but I also got the hint of puke. I'm not a fan of vomit!

    • @JC-fj7oo
      @JC-fj7oo 6 років тому

      IDK but I think the vomit flavor aka butyric acid usually comes from improper storage. I didn't care for it because I found it to be bland. I usually mix a couple drops of laphroaig into it to make it taste like anything. It may be psychological because something about it triggers a memory of a time you over-did it and puked?

    • @tarinindell8217
      @tarinindell8217 6 років тому

      Jeremy C
      Nope. Even on those rare occasions when its happened (and its been over a decade since the last time) nothing ever really sticks with me like that.
      Even things that have gotten me sick, im able to go back and have them again, and im fine.
      Plus, i tend to not get any psychological triggers for nauseua- when i was younger i used to watch Fear Factor while eating dinner almost every night of the week.
      Its just... something about this specific whisky that i dislike. And this is the ONLY whisky that i have this problem with.
      Which sucks, because its supposedly everything i like in a whisky- smooth, sweet, and affordable.
      If you guys have any suggestions for something similar, id be sure to check it out (doesnt have to be scotch, i enjoy stuff from every region)
      (Also one or twice a year i do love the more agressive stuff like Lagavulin, but normally i drink to simply enjoy myself. Its why my favorite bourbon is Makers Mark.)

    • @tarinindell8217
      @tarinindell8217 6 років тому

      Glad to hear im not the only weirdo out there.
      And i do enjoy most Irish whiskies, but i do find many of them too bland for my taste.
      The one im currently enjoying is the IPA version of the Jamesson Caskmates.
      And the absolute best one i have had is the Tullamore DEW Trilogy. Triple distilled, malted plus unmalted plus gain whiskies, and its finished in golden runs casks.
      It blew me away.

    So I'm pretty new to this channel but I've binge watched a shit-ton of these videos. I love these guys,. I'm fascinated by their lives and how they got their and I'm using the info they give me ( I just bought my first Islay, in the form of Lagavulin) as over the past year I've been buying a bottle of Scotch at time trying to find the one I love. I'd be more than happy to share my small list and give opinions if anyone is curious about what a new SCOTCH drinker thought, as I've been a Bourbon guy since I'm a teenager.
    All that being said, I've noticed on the newer videos particularly one or two of the latest there seems to be a divide between these two. Daniel is coming off legitimately annoyed or pissed off at Rex. I noticed it pretty strong in a video he other day and then I watch this one and I'm almost sure if it. There is a legit animosity coming off Daniel. Anyone else think so? Reasons for it maybe?

    Is it possible to speed up aging of a barrel by artificially creating climate? Say if you had a warehouse that you could make really hot for a week like a texas summer and then cold for a week like a really cold Scottish winter, and you did that for 24 to 30 weeks, would it allow enough transfer in and out of the barrel wood to begin to recreate a aged whiskey?

    • @JC-fj7oo
      @JC-fj7oo 6 років тому

      No. If you've ever tried cooking a roast in a pressure cooker vs cooking it in a crock-pot all day you get the idea. Changing the climate rapidly would move the alcohol into the wood slightly faster but there is no replacement for the time it takes for certain chemical reactions to occur. If you just want more barrel absorption you would be better off using smaller barrels, or adding toasted oak chips/cubes. They discussed in another video that Texas style whiskey is very strongly flavored after only a few years and tastes "like a big middle finger" because the constant dry heat makes those chemical reactions happen very quickly while the high dollar smooth scotches are stored in a cool humid rackhouse for much longer. Meanwhile Daniels and Beam turn out millions of gallons of mediocrity by quick aging in Tennessee with hot summers and freezing winters.

    I'm 2:20 into the video and paused it to say that while I love scotch, and I'm VERY thankful for you two introducing me to scotch, I personally hate Glenlivet and your suggestion initially made me cringe...then it dawned on me that this blend might turn into something I actually like, which would help me get rid of that godawful bottle of Glenlivet 12 I so foolishly bought as my first scotch and nearly abandoned trying any other scotch (the other culprit was the 2nd bottle of scotch I bought, which was a port cask finished Glen Moray, which was even worse than the Glenlivet 12)...I'm now going to unpause the video and put my faith in you two chucklefucks to do your best to help expunge that horrible whiskey from my collection with a wondrous elixir of magnificence...no pressure...
