When Liu Kang grabs his shoulder, the timing on his "The fuck?" was absolutely bloody brilliant.
Agreed. One of the best moments easily.
As a aussie let me help you with this phase, is pronounce "Da fuck!?" 😂. It such a classic mannerism of a outback aussie, usually followed with "Da fuck you doing dickhead!?"
His comedic timing is perfect.

I watched the movie out of boredom and I’m so glad I did. I laughed so hard at that part I woke up the house. Some of the best comedic timing I’ve ever seen. 😆😆😆
Kano instantly became my favorite regardless he was a villain. Never liked him, but the actor gained my strong vote. And yes he carried the entire movie.

I just played this on background yesterday, but as soon as Kano came in to play, I started watching properly. He was just so entertaining as a character... and I don't even know much about MK lore.
It's a "Captain Boomerang" situation where they're the greatest thing about their lame movies.
You can in fact watch Mortal Kombat in Australia all you need is an eyepatch, a wooden leg and the right attitude

Saw a meme saying that Josh Lawson was "hospitalized with back pain after carrying the whole movie". And after watching the movie, I can believe that. Hahaha
The guy playing scorpion did an OK job with what they gave him, but Josh Lawson really did go above and beyond. Definitely a more interesting character than the rest of the ‘hero’ team, and all of the ‘villain’ team as well.
Could it be because he partly wrote this piece of shit and he gave himself a huge part in it?

ah i love it. "literal plot armor". I fucking hate the fact only thing that made me really going in the entire thing was Kano and Hanzo. I didnt like Cole, i didnt like Sonya, i didnt like Raiden or Tseng Tsung, and i especially cringed at Liu Kang. I think movie would be a complete bust without Kano.
Yea and of-course that made up puss Cole guy has to be American too...there’s literally no way to do that to an Aussie character especially one like Kano lol.

So Kano became widely Australian after the 1995 movie where he was portrayed as such by Trevor Goddard. It was a widely loved portrayal so he adopted that accent even in the games.

I watched an interview of Josh about Kano and originally he did have scripts and lines but the director found his improvisations quite good. They ended up choosing mostly his improv lines for the movie :)

Seriously Kano deserves his own movie or three. If these guys knew anything about what fans really want they’d feature him and eliminate half of the rest of the baddies.

Kano literally made the first hour of the film entertaining.
Kano single-handedly carried that entire movie. Best bits of that movie all contained kano. I kept laughing everytime that dude opened his mouth.
agreed, the action was ok and Kano carried it for sure, the rest of the acting in the movie was garbage.
@@hairtrigger8317 garbage maybe it's a bit harsh. I mean, no oscars will be handed out or anything but, the other actors were serviceable. Finding a dynamic, good looking ( this is hollywood), star that can actually make fighting choreography look good is a rare combo. Often you get two of the attributes and flub the third... Most often their ability to act.

@@mattsully2238 That's fine man I think most of the acting was terrible especially Sonya. If it hadn't been for Kano my wife and I would have turned that shit off. Seems odd to go to the effort to have good choreography, special effects, a decent story and then have pretty shit acting. Kano had us cracking up though and really was the movies saving grace.

I genuinely think Australians appreciate Kano on a level that 99% of the people who see the movie wont understand. The delivery on a lot his lines I reckon went straight over the heads of most of the world.

Got a good laugh in the cinema here in NZ.
I saw it opening day in the theater here in the US and Kano was killing it. Whole theater was laughing at the shit he said/did. Though it helps to know the language to understand well written lines, I find good comedic delivery to be universal.
I think more people can appreciate it than you think.
Ozzy is great for being so kind hearted about others whom ask that he doesn’t post something because of how embarrassing it was, and happily does so. Definitely a great person, a fair dinkum fella.
I thought the exact same about Kano. He was the perfect voice of reason in such a ridiculous scenario as a "Mortal Kombat", which says a looot.
I think what I love most about this movie is, the Aussie isn't the "American version" of an Aussie. thats legit. ike, we all know someone who's totally like that. its so good!

IIRC, Kano was originally half-Chinese, half-American. After the first live Mortal Kombat movie, and Kano's portrayal by Australian actor Trevor Goddard (R.I.P.) the creators actually retconned Kano to be Australian with a full accent in game as a nod of respect and tribute to his performance and it's stuck around to this day. :-)

I swear i never loved an Austrailian character more than Crocodile Dundy, but Kano is a real contender.
I've known many people from Ausy, most sound british. People with the "dundee" accent is comparable to the southern draw in the US.

When they're talking about the dragon markings and Cole asks where Sonjas is at and she says she doesn't have one. In the background you can hear Kano say, "wamp wamp" I laughed pretty good

His delivery of the jokes is realistic Aussie hot headed sarcasm.
Glad I’m not the only one who thought, “this guy really reminds of Ozzy Man”, every time Kano talked. It’s more than just the Australian accent, too. Like his voice and mannerisms are so similar. Like, if I hadn’t actually seen your face before, I would’ve been like, “Is that ozzy man?”
Every time I heard kanos voice I was reminded of ozzyman... And it put a smile on my face

I mean depression gets medication and means your broken. beleiveing your an attack helicopter gets a parade and public praise these days. Depression comes from being told you have all these freedoms that reality shows we do not have. Current generations in a debt trap for over 100 years of industrialized damages none of us reaped any reward from. Kind of hard not to feel depressed when you take life realistically.

I've had aussie friends in addition to watching many australian movies and none of them sound like Ozzy Man. Like seriously they've all had much gentler laid back speaking tones even if they cuss up a storm like Ozzy Man (it's why I prefer the australian accent over british accents, they sound less...stiff). But Josh lawson as Kano sounded nearly identical to Ozzy Man in most of the movie, so I do think he may have been inspired by Ozzy man's gruff, excited, manner of speaking. Having an Australian accent doesn't mean every australian sounds like Ozzy Man🙄 smh
I know zero about Mortal Kombat anything, but I went to see this with my boyfriend and his brother. Kano 100% kept me interested in everything that was going on and had me laughing the whole time. Josh Lawson is brilliant and he was the perfect casting choice for Kano. Loved your reactions and thanks for telling us more about the actor :)

Kano was one of the only people who looked like they were payed to act. The rest of the movie looked like stand ins and people who have never acted before. I guess it keeps the MK movie legacy alive in that respect.
