The VW ID.3 is the most fun electric car right now and this video shows how it works, what it does and how it drives... check out the full review: ua-cam.com/video/_5gcamOmz_8/v-deo.html
Great video with plenty of info we have just ordered ours and fingers crossed will be with us early next year. Now I know how the infotainment system works, very much appreciated.
Great video. I personally would have liked a more thorough view of things. So when you change settings, you could have showed what they did. For example, you mentioned the car recognized you when you walked toward it. There were two settings in the menu. But you didn’t show either one. That kind of stuff. You easily could have made this 30-45 min long and I would have eaten it all up. The ambient lighting also. I saw the blue. But you mentioned the red and I saw no red so I don’t know what that setting did.
Thanks for the feedback! I didn't have time to film everything I wanted as I made two videos in a few hours. If you look at my review of the car you can maybe see it unlocked as I approach.
A very well informed video. I’m amazed at the response of the touchscreen. I have a golf 8 and my screen is very laggy. Do you have any suggestions by any chance.?
Check for any software updates. If not take it to the dealer and see if they can update it. Lastly you could reset the settings to see if that improves it. However all infotainment systems can be slower than you would expect compared to your phone. Have a look at my Golf 8 videos and compare the speed on those to see if it’s as normal or something is wrong.
Loved this video as there's no jargon involved or 'brochure language'! What I'd like to know is can you play films etc. if they're stored on your phone or on a USB? I know you can in the Ioniq.
There is no way right now to do that on this car that I am aware but I didn't try playing video back and there is no video playing app on the system but VW do update this car OTA. They could add something like this down the line.
Very interesting. I have just buy my new id3! I have some problems with Android auto, and related apps. I.e I can't view Spotify on id's screen, I would like manage it from car. Which version of Android do you have? Which model of mobile phone? Thanks!
If Android Auto is working for you then Spotify should work. My recommendation would be the obvious first step which is turn your phone on and off. If that doesn't work check you have the latest app updates but I imagine just turning off the phone will solve the problem. Android Auto just like any software on your phone can crash and then not load unless the phone is turned off and on.
Unfortunately you showed many things but explained very few. Like, it's obvious that I can set "Light assistance" to "Comfort", but what does that actually *do*?
All new cars do this - they turn on the assistance settings. The only way to stop this would be using something like OBDeleven (check out my video) but it isn’t dealer supported.
Would love the car but hear so many complaints that it is not great on distance only getting around 200 miles not anywhere near the stated miles otherwise would get one
I can't comment first hand on range BUT I think people don't realise that weather and how you drive effects range. Batteries hold charge better in warm weather so it would be expected that range is less in the winter than the summer. Is that something that should bother you? I guess that depends on where your driving and how far everyday.
@@TechInTheCar I currently have a kia e soul which is great in winter as well as summer I can easily get 240 miles in winter and have pushed 300 in summer but seen videos stating under 200 for the ID3 which is a shame
I can’t speak first hand to the range but is it worth getting a better spec car (if it is compared to your Kia) with more tech and losing a bit of range? If your hitting that range regularly then I understand but if your not?
Using the VW system? I would suggest plugging in your phone and using Android Auto or CarPlay as in car navigation isn't as good as Google Maps or Waze. I would use the in car navigation only for directions to charging stations (although Google does also show that). However to answer your question it should let you touch the screen to choose the route as it may calculate more than one for you.
The id3 navigation gives me usually 3 routes and says “choose route”. I’ve tried clicking on the route I’d like but it then leads me to wherever I’ve clicked as a destination and deletes the rest of the route . I’m stumped. Any ideas? I really want to use this and not resort to my trusty Tomtom.
You should plug your Android or iPhone in - trust me this is so much easier and it is built into your new car. And the directions are significantly better as Google Maps has better mapping data and traffic. It may be that your ID.3 has a software glitch. It may need an update - I would suggest visiting your dealer if this is happening.
You can see the version number in the video towards the end of it when I go into the settings. I know however it has been updated. I would check in your settings for a software update as if it is available to you then you should definitely get it downloaded and installed.
Only the 0783 software version (also known as 2.0) has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the home button on the right. VW will be rolling out 2.1 software to all cars shortly, which will include the same functions (and more)
Hey I just got my golf last week and havnt used infotainment like this before. I can't seem to get the wireless android auto working.. iv managed to get it working once but it requires a WiFi connection, which seems pointless as your phone then has no connection and can't really be used. Am I doing something wrong ? Thanks
I have two videos on the Golf 8 Infotainment system - check out my VW playlist or just search on my channel. As for your question; the reason why wireless Android Auto needs WiFi is to connect to the car. It uses WiFi to connect to the system. It is not using it to connect to your internet. As long as you’re using your mobile data connection it will work. If your trying to tether then it won’t. It depends on how your playing music etc on your phone when driving. If you are tethering then you will have to use wired Android Auto. If your using the data connection and your getting issues then I would recommend the old “turn the phone off, and on” again as there can be some bugs with wireless AA and CarPlay. If it still doesn’t work I would suggest resetting the settings for AA on your phone and deleting it from the car and setting it up again as new. Let me know how it goes and also it is good news that the Golf has the update now for wireless AA and CP as it didn’t get released with it.
@@TechInTheCar iv had a look thru your videos and can't find anything about how to set up android auto to use wirelessly. Can you send me a link to the one you are meaning please ? Thanks
If your Golf 8 has had the update to enable it (and if it worked before then it has) then it is just a case of plugging it in and getting it working with the wire; then unplugging it from the wire. Then going back into the settings and clicking it will automatically connect it wirelessly (if it didn’t stay connected). I removed the set up part from the video I did on the BMW M5 (which is called Wireless Android Auto) because it just stayed connected when I plugged it in and so there wasn’t anything to show. Likewise with the ID.3 when I unplugged it after setting it up wired it just stayed connected.
But when your connected you can't use the phone as It requires a WiFi connection to work wirelessly. Being connected they WiFi means your phone then has no date connection ? Is this the way it should be ?
The phone will work with your mobile data connection even though WiFi is on - the phone knows that it is using WiFi for the wireless Android Auto. If your phone isn’t working when connected wirelessly then it sounds like either you have bad signal where your driving (which is where you can download songs to Spotify for example) or that your phone is having issues and it is a phone setting. What phone do you have? Have you tried turning it on and off? I know thats super obvious but often that fixes any problems.
Thanks! It is a very fun car to drive and has lots of cool features. If you like the look then you should check it out in person when dealers reopen if your in the U.K.

Thanks for a concise, to the point no frills explanation of the Infotainment System. Much appreciated.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks!
I have just ordered this car and you video was very clear. I think you have saved me a lot of time understanding the infotainment. Thank you.

Glad it was helpful! Let me know when you get it or if you have any questions.
As I have very small garage entrance is it possible to close in the wing mirrors whilst driving /parking the same as the VW Polo operation please.
Thank you, waiting for my car. This really helped
Great to hear! Any questions let me know, Thanks
Thank you so much for this comprehensive review!!
You are so welcome! Please consider subscribing if you haven’t and let me know if you have any questions! thanks.
You did not mention the top-down swipe FAVORITES/shortcuts. Or did I miss them somehow. 🤔
Useless when the problem is that infotainment system just does not activate
Nice and complete informations ! Was so useful! Appreciate your time ! 👍
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching & consider subscribing as that really helps me.

How to change the language of the infotainment system?
Have a look in the system settings - not the car settings.

This must be the updated software as my ID.3 does not have android and apple car play, and Hi ID is pretty useless whilst your version is much better.

No, there is no space in the front. Only the rear unlike other larger electric cars.
Foolish stearing wheel on the wrong side
there's always one.
