Black oil seeds are one of the best investments you can make. We just got some laying hens this year but we've been growing sunflowers for a long while. I have some sprouting now as you showed here, and we also plan to just give some of the whole sunflower heads to our chickens; a lot of people say they love that. Growing sunflowers helps break up our heavy clay soil, so we plant them wherever we want to put a new bed next year. Sometimes the local native songbirds eat most of the seeds before we harvest them, but I'm fine with that. And neighbors have commented they like seeing the pretty sunflowers here and there when they drive past our property, so that's nice too.
Fantastic! I bought about 40lbs of BLack oil Sunflowers seeds and my birds were killed by a critter. Left with all these seeds I tried growing them as sprouts/ micro greens and they’re doing great!
Thanks for video Debbie, I got four more chooks today at point of lay. It has been a bit windy here in UK lately so glad to be getting on with the birds, will be ordering BOSS today. Good luck.
Hello Debbiedoos, let's connect. I made wheat sprouts and my chicken love it. If I get hold of sunflower seeds I will make sprouts for them. Thanks for sharing
I bought that same 40 lb bag of black oil sunflower seeds yesterday for $29.99. Prices sure have gone up. I soaked the seeds last night and they are in a jar now. I feed quail that visit my front yard. I thought the sprouts would be nice due to the fact that Arizona has very few green plants.

I’m so sorry for your loss!
Something murdered my flock, too. It is disgusting after you work so hard. I never found out what it was, and I had a fortress, too.

🐤 💕 sunflower 🌻 😆
Cool! Just subbed.
Do you need to rinse the seeds everyday to prevent mold? I sprout sunflower seeds for my girls too and they grow moldy sometimes.
yes I do rinse them 2 or 3 times a day with cool water because they are so dirty.
@@debbiedooshomesteading7027 this helps, thank you.
If you use non chlorinated water and let it sit longer will ferment the seed which is healthy
Plant a few of them and you won't need to buy any more.
where do you get them?
You can get them at tractor supply.Or walmart or Online
