    Mine really took off in the third season. I have three plants and they're producing hundreds of berries each right now.
    I have the creamy yellow variety.
    I use worm castings mixed with compost and fish emulsion for fertilizing and cut grass as a mulch to help retain moisture (my summers are hot).
    I also have clover and chives in the same pots. My pots are two feet wide and they're all full. The alpine strawberries take up the most space and outpaced the chives in growth.

    Great video, thank you. You’re right, the seed pack in freezer method gives the highest germination, (I do 4 weeks), I estimate 80-90% will germinate in about 10 days; winter sowing outdoors (in my region) is about 30-50%. One inch soil blocking enables many baby plants in small spaces, plus prevents damping off of seedlings. 🍓

    Thank you, very informative video. I really like all your content, I've recently discovered your channel and I already love it! Especially because I also have a part-shade balcony. Today I bought a packet of Alpine strawberry seeds. Is it too late to put them in the freezer for 3-4 weeks and then sowing them in pots? What is your advice? Thank you and have a lovely day! 🌷

      Thank you so much for your kind words ☺️🙏!!! Oh, how cool that you also have a part-shade balcony! I'm curious what you grow on yours!
      I think it's a great idea to sow your alpine strawberries now! As I mentioned in the video, they are unlikely to bear fruit in the first season, but if you plant them now, they will have plenty of time to grow and next year you will have large enough plants that will bear fruit 🍓

      I grow my Alpine strawberries on the balcony in Mr Stacky( vertical garden). You don't have to do anything to your seeds. Just plant them in early March inside and you will have strawberries in late August.

    Hi thanks for the video
    I read of a variety I think Attila that can trail. I want to fill a large pot with alpines- should I go for a variety like this that will fill in the pot itself or go for the non trailing and just plant multiple plants?
    Thanks 🙏

    • @17m2garden
      @17m2garden  2 роки тому

      I didn't know about this variety but it sounds interesting! I think that both of these would work equally well and fill in the pot eventually ☺️ But maybe the flavor is different so that's also something to consider.

    • @andrewcobra2000
      @andrewcobra2000 10 місяців тому

      Don't waste your time on Attila!!!. Second season and still only a few berries on them.
      Grow Rugia/Rugen, Regina, Baron von solemacher or Yellow Wonder.

      Traditional strawberry won't produce for long, but Alpines will that's why they are so awesome ☺️. It's Chrysanthemum 'Burnt Orange'.

    I just watched your “10 fruits and vegetables “ video and was fascinated by the alpine strawberries so i ordered some. I am in Zone 6 Canada. I just received my order March 13th. Do you think it’s too late in the season start?

    • @17m2garden
      @17m2garden  3 місяці тому

      That's awesome 🙌🏻! I think it doesn't matter much and you can still sow them now, because in the first year they won't bear much fruit anyway, they will develop vegetatively and only next year they will start giving abundant harvests🍓 (it would also be a good idea to protect them from frost in zone 6 especially during their first winter)

    Does alpine strawberries grow and bear fruit in full shade or partial shade or in full sun light

    • @17m2garden
      @17m2garden  Рік тому +1

      Anywhere from full sun to partial shade will suit them. Mine only get 3-4 hours of morning sun and produce profusely.

    Did you water the seed pot everyday until germination?

    • @17m2garden
      @17m2garden  2 роки тому

      Not necessarily everyday, it depends how fast the soil dries out. When you see that the top layer of soil starts to dry out you spray it with water.

    My strawberry plant looks so weak. it leaves are lying on the ground I potted them with little bit red clay soil but I 'am sure the drainage is ok can it will be a problem for the next stage of the plant growth hope u will answer 🍓🌼

    • @17m2garden
      @17m2garden  Рік тому

      Hello! Wilted leaves and weak looking plant could mean many different things. The first thing could be water stress - so either you are giving it too much or not enough water. Water it well and then allow the soil to dry out a bit before you water again, stick your finger into the soil to check if it's dry before you water. Feed your strawberry with a fertilizer for flowering plants when it is actively growing (spring-summer) so that it has energy to grow and produce. Inspect your plant for presence of any pests. And lastly make sure it gets at least a few hours of sun. You can cut the leaves back completely in winter so that it promotes fresh new growth in spring. If you have a traditional strawberry not the alpine type, then something to keep in mind is they only last 3-4 years.

    Do they like a lot of sunlight or more shade

    • @17m2garden
      @17m2garden  Рік тому +2

      In nature, they grow in forests, so they naturally prefer shade or places where they receive filtered sunlight (protected by larger plants). A northern or eastern exposure would be ideal.
