Fire Genasi with an Efreeti Pasha Daddy. Problem is, he always wants to rope me into the 'family business'. In the case of Efreeti nobility, that just happens to be slavery. Well, crap.
I play a fire Genasi Genie warlock, but went against the archetype with the patron - she's a Djinni, and they only signed a pact because it's part of the deal of the Warlock's organization with the elemental plane of Air rulership. Their relationship can be described as "professionally courteous animosity".
Not going to lie, switching to Genie Warlock in AL completely changed how I play. For one: Instant Panic room, which I've filled with a bathtub, 2 weeks' worth of supplies, fresh clothes, some books, and a Gnome Ceromorph laser pistol with 50 shots. Second: Using the vessel as a means for swift entry/exit from a situation or urgent healing. EG: Bamfing into the Vessal (a ring in this case) and allowing the Monk to carry me away while I heal from 1 HP. While a GenieLock can do a lot of damage, I find it a much better support caster, more so if you take a dip into Bard. That, and I've got this idea now for a Soul Knife Rogue/Genie Warlock (Pact of Chain) build where you infiltrate, exterminate and escape by your familiar carrying your vessel away...
Pact of the chain 'lock with voice of the chain master invocation and imp familiar. Get in your vessel, have the imp pick it up and become invisble, and you can remote control it while inside your vessel.
A dwarf who dug too deep under their hold; and accidentally entered a small portal into the elemental Plane of Earth...right into a dao's palace. A tiefling who made a deal with an efreeti slaver...the tiefling gets their freedom, but becomes that efreeti's sponsor, inflating their reputation and power (basically, that efreeti wants godhood). A sailor's boat is destroyed by pirates; they are only saved by the intervention of a marid. Natural storytellers, they form a decent relationship where the sailor will periodically tell stories of their travels to the marid in exchange for power to use against the pirates that sunk them. An entertainer who impressed a wealthy noble so much that they offered them a job to be their own personal musician. The noble, turns out, was a djinn...who bamfed the entertainer to their sky palace. After an elaborate escape, the entertainer must now ironically keep a low-profile to evade their #1 fan.
You also don't need to limit yourself to getting their powers consensually you could be sapping the life force of a marid that was terrorizing the beaches near your hometown having trapped it with a ring given to you by tritons who knew it wouldn't have let them near
A human that promised an efreeti riches in exchange for power. He handed the genie a golden nugget that turned out to be a golden wrapped chocolate. The genie was offended until he tried the candy. They make a pact that relies on the human providing sweets regularly.
The best warlock, genie warlock allows the character to excel where the warlock is at its weakest. Getting access to wish just breaks warlock. Not a bad thing mind you. Wish-simulacrum is amazing for high level warlock play. Tier one they get some extra damage where it counts. Tier two they get access to fly and improved invis which they can do at the same time O.o. Tier three short rest mechanics to give more spell slots and limited wish is just awesome. Tier four as I said wish equals power.
I love the level one features from Genie Warlock so much I now think about level dipping into it every time I start a new character. It's just so awesome having a mini pocket plane, even if it is once per long rest you can access it.
A Fire Genasi Genie Warlock (Efreeti Patron) seems wonderfully flavored, especially with the added rule on Page 7, allowing you to switch your racial stat buffs. This gives people an alternative option to playing with Fireball, as opposed to being forced to play a Pact of the Fiend Warlock in order to have access to that, and other, powerful AOE spells early on.
Ever since the Genie got updated to its current version, I had fallen in love with the subclass, and am jonesing to play one of my own whenever the opportunity arises. One question I did have though is in regards to the choice of default Genie spells - specifically the 2nd and 4th level spells of *phantasmal force* and *phantasmal killer* over *enlarge/reduce* and *polymorph*. Were the latter two considered too much as short-rest spells? I know all four spells were originally on the Noble Genie list when the subclass was first introduced in the UA, but I'm wondering why the phantasmal spells and not the more unique options were chosen.
Fire Genasi Genie Warlock. Inherited the pact through his mother, who was a Genie Warlock who fell in love with her patron. Basically I'm carrying my father in an oil lamp.
I never considered playing warlocks before because many of them tend to be edgelord rp wise (warlock sold their soul to Asmodeus and is trying to get it back). But the genie pact has given me some new ideas about how to play a warlock. A dao noble genie is completely focused on gaining wealth. So why wouldn’t a warlock literally buy his powers? Might be quadruple want a pre med student has to pay in student loans but the warlock could theoretically pay off their debt over time.
Couldn't agree more. I have some homebrew with an "Elemental Empire" that has Genies at the top of the pyramid, Genasi as the nobility/mercantile classes, and lowly Humans as the labor classes.
In my most recent campaign I was actually going that route because I was playing an air Genasi and I said my father was a Djinn and me and my DM had finally gotten my backstory together but in our last session my dumbass decided to pull the last 3 cards in our deck of many things and now my soul may or may not be in the 9 hells with a demigorgon who may or may not be our bbeg so now I have to create a new character 😅
If you have an imp familiar can you go into your vessel and have the imp carry you around invisible to sneak into somewhere? I think my main question is can you communicate with the familiar from within the vessel
So Limited Wish says "up to 6th level" meaning it could be a lower spell level. My question is would a lower level spell cast using this feature be upcast to 6th level?
Have your familiar always wear your vesicle. Then have it be a imp or sprite and sit on your shoulder. (do the ring). Finally whenever you want to vanish put your hand up to your shoulder... XD you vanish without a trace like you teleported.
So the vessel is the focus right? Can I cast spells from it as a point of origin with out touching it? Example using it to cast Eldrich blast around corners (assuming I can see them) or armor of Agathyst on a party member holding it?
Does anyone know where to find the spell descriptions for the genie? I know I can just google it and find it but where is the description of the spells in the book('s)?
I want to play a Genielock that’s basically just a Genasi version of Zagreus from Hades who’s escaped from their father’s elemental plane and they’re constantly trying to convince the character to stop being so foolish and come home
can we talk about how you can become a pseudo genie and you never get a bigger living space than a 20ft cylinder? My only complaint with the class love the rest of it I just can't wrap my head around the tiny living space for someone who is say lv 20 in this class...
@@jeewjitsu Well it is given to you by your patron genie. Maybe you can do something to get better or larger accommodations..though I'm sure it will cost you..Genies are notoriously greedy.
@@jeewjitsu In fact, I would probably rule it as: for the gold cost of a portable hole you could expand the size by that of the portable hole. You give up the ease of access of a portable hole but dont have to worry about losing it.
Not possible, sadly. The conditions for limited wish are 'max. 6th level' and 'takes an action to cast'. Heroe's Feast keeps you casting for 10 minutes...

Kind of want too play a Genasi with this class and just RP That I am straight up Genie.

@@Mazurecki56 So like working in a restaurant, when you're both GMs but one of you had worked under the other before.

She's on a quest to find out who her dad is tho

You also got some bath salts, so you can really get all the tension out while you lay low while the dragon eats the rest of the party?
I do that every time I take major damage! I spent the last few combats just in the ring putting up various mounted heads we found!

@@Numokai That is, truly, a great warlock-patron relationship.
It almost sounds like a fairy tale.
Ifrit: Fire Summon for Final Fantasy fans. Now I wanna make a warlock with a genie
I would have really liked to have seen Mephits being an option for familiars, if you took Pact of The Chain with this patron option.
I would allow it if one of my players wanted to have a mephit familiar. This is a really cool idea.

I think my main question is can you communicate with the familiar from within the vessel
You should be able to. You're within 100 feet.
Fill this thing with glyphs of warding
So Limited Wish says "up to 6th level" meaning it could be a lower spell level. My question is would a lower level spell cast using this feature be upcast to 6th level?
I would assume so. If you cast a 1st level spell at 6th level, it is a 6th level spell for all intents and purposes.
This is gonna be great, I’m looking into putting a fire based cult in my game and an efreeti warlock will certainly be useful.
Can you catapult your vessel when your team is in it? Like you send your entire team to the enemy's face
That would be fun. Imagine doing this so you could quickly transport your party across a room or a across a large pool of lava
Just used my water skin vessel to steal 3 large barrels of beer from a brewery.

There's some real potential in that concept.
Limited wish is finally in 5e... sort of...

I'd be using the vessel to hide from/ambush foes.
so the genie is the only one that don't get bonus dmg once per turn?
