Now we need a "Comitatenses vs. Roman infantry roster"
Thanks for the comment. Released tomorrow ;)
@@qualityoldgames7721 ahh yeeah
I like how you can combine BI units with the vanilla game units! I've always wondered about their fights but had no way of testing them!
Thanks for the comment. Yea, imo these tests are rather interesting :)
Just noticed how much worse Comitatenses morale is compared to that of legionary cohort, and their missile attack seems less effective as well, so despite their Urban Cohort-beating defense they look rather handicapped in other ways.
Thanks for the comment. Yea, the morale is an issue for most of the BI Roman units :)
Well for starters...
The roman empire isn't in its prime anymore. Thus the lower morale 😢
If Rome was in it's peak I'd be freakin have max morale stats
@@micalangenburg1706by this time the level of discipline of a Roman soldier had gradually been declining for a while.
@@camulodunon Rome had an image of invincibility back then, the last time Rome almost got destroyed was from the great General Hannibal, and later its image of invincibility was also affected with the destruction of the legions at Teutoburg forest (leading to years long wars with the Germanic tribe, who kept challenging Rome).
Rome isn't "Rome" anymore after decades of corrupt emperors and internal infighting, so people no longer look up to the leaders they had, no Caesar, no Aurelian.. So even these elite units doesn't have that trust to their commanders either when things go sour, unlike the Legion of old, who kept fighting even when surrounded or outnumbered.
Comes aren't as good as vanilla Roman infantry, but this is a game balance decision on CA's part and has nothing to do with history. There's no evidence that the Roman military after Constantine's reforms was any worse than the military of Augustus' day. This is an outdated view in the historiography perhaps best expressed by Gibbon who wrote in the 1700s. Our knowledge of late antiquity is much more complete today.
2:45 that 1v1 was the most tense fight
Indeed :) Thanks for the comment.
The Romans really comitatenselves!
:D Thanks for the comment.
I think every player who is familiar with rome from RTW gets the shock of their lives at how fragile comitatenses are morale wise when they start a BI playthrough. On paper they have pretty good stats but their morale is equal to that of HASTATI. if i recall, in Rome 2 Atila, Comitatenses even have 'poor morale' as a trait
Гастаты 6,у этих 8 , для ванилы от 8 -высокий боевой дух
Thanks for the comment. Yea, the Comitatenses breaking in my WRE campaigns have been really annoying :)
The first group actually took the most damage due to them managed to side flank the Spartan Hoplites, the 2nd group coulda won in slight chance if they follow the same. Glad that Comitatenses able to withstand alot due to much higher DEF +1 then the Urban Cohort at Vanilla.
мне кажется чисто технически их общая защищенность чуть хуже чем у урбанов , ведь у них на 2 доспеха меньше , а это самая сильная защита вроде бы , нужны тесты )
That second unit looked really bugged
Yea, they can take quite a beating but it seems they are a bit on the weaker side on delivering it :) Thanks for the comment.
It's funny that Comitatenses fared worse than Legionary Cohort...
Even funnier how they cannot form testudo 🤷
Thanks for the comment. Indeed. It seems the poor morale shows in this one :)
Comitatenses were historically not as professional and drilled as the earlier legionaries. Just food for thought. Rome is still somewhat historically inspired they also used a thereous style shield over the scutum style square shields of the cohort eras thus no ability for testudo
@@hellbringer09 So are you telling me that Ammianus Marcellinus was wrong?
@@Rakiael07 not necessarily wrong he understood the ever expanding cost of the legions so he streamlined it and allowed for even more diverse populations to be mustered for the era. Sorta like how the hellenic cultures also did the same they change from heavily drilled and trained troops of the alexander and phillip the 2nd era. But post alexander the hellenic states and empires on mass switched to weight of numbers and arms over training and allowed for 2nd and 3rd class citizens to be mainline troops instead of just auxiliaries. Rome emulated this and took greece from the declining spartan populations. But post marcelinus reforms the roman troops didnt even get half the training of the legions of the marian era.
Cool! I'd love a mod which lets you recruit BI units as Vanilla Romans, or vice-versa. Just for fun!
Hmm. That would be a nice mod. However, the vanilla game engine seems to have some limitations which makes it difficult :) Thanks for the comment.
Alemanni Berserkers vs Germania Berserkers
Coming next week ;) Thanks for the comment.
Everyone just keeps yammering away about Comitatenses being trash and yet they still took the Spartans down in 4 units which is more than most units would ever get to. Their low Morale is hardly apparent when you take into account their high defense combined with Discipline manages to help them hold on long enough to tire the Spartans out and whittle their numbers down. The fact no one is talking about how they outperformed Early Legionnaires really shows they are missing the Forrest for the Trees.
Thanks for the comment. Agreed, their stats are really solid :)
Having bet on 2 units, I kind of want to throttle that second unit of comitatenses. Eh, but the third unit lost anyway. Looks like the 3-4s have it.
Yea, it seems quite often the second unit does not fare too well :) Thanks for the comment.
The beta Comitatense, the Chad Standard Bearer. I'm confident they where the highest performing in K/D in t his video.
Agreed on that :) Thanks for the comment.
Any point to match units from different expansions (base game and expansion)?
Thanks for the question. I guess not per se but at least imo it is interesting to see and based on the popularity, the viewers think so as well :)
It would have been interesting to do it in a street fight too
Thanks for the comment. It would certainly benefit the phalanxes :)
levy pikemen vs limitanei
Thanks for the suggestion. I will add that to To_Do list :)
I gues it right :)
Well predicted :) Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the comment. Hmm, I guess some settings help in that. Here is a link to a vid where I show which settings I use. I hope it helps :)

Tanky unit
Indeed :) Thanks for the comment.
Typical COMMIEtatentes. Trash morale. If they would've vanilla Rome morale they likely would've only needed 2 units to beat the Spartans.
Hmm. Perhaps. The defense is quite nice :) Thanks for the comment.
