Bought the SuperCap 1 a couple years ago and it was fantastic. Gave it used to one of my sons for his birthday and he said it was a "LIFE SAVER." Only negative thing about the Cap 1 was that it didn't have a case; whereas, the Cap 2 does and a nice one at that. The SuperCap Lite is just as efficient as the Cap 1 & 2.
I have the original autowit and it has worked most of the time, like in this video, if the battery is completely dead, even the autowit is fully charged, it will not do anything. It happened to my 4runner and recently my tacoma that was accidentallu left running the ac while engine was off. I don't know why it's lile that, I think the conventional jump starters with battery are better, or maybe a combinatoon of both.
@@nokianx400 cool, I think I'm going with the NOCO. The only con for the lithium ion battery packs like the NOCO is that the power may drain after a couple months, so I have to check it every 3-4 months, then I guess I should be good

I bought one because I have several riding mowers, two pickups and one car. One of my trucks is a Dodge 3500 with a Cummins 6.7 engine. It has two completely dead batteries. I think if my batteries weren't so dead it probably would have cranked it but it wouldn't turn it over. I haven't cranked this truck in over a year so I figured it would be a good test for the Cap 2. The lights turned on in the cab but the starter only clicked. I guess it's not made for this size engine. I have used it on one of my riding mowers and it really spins it over. I'm sure I'll use it many times in the future.
The science is sound. Capacitors excel at charging and discharging a lot of energy very rapidly. Exactly what the starter needs to turn over the engine
Won't work on totally dead battery or very weak battery and takes too long too charge if you happen to have a power bank or if your battery is weak and if it doesn't work the first time you have to wait for it to charge again to try and jump start your car again. Just get a regular compact jump starter that hold a good charge for over a year and just remember to check it every few months and recharge it if necessary.
I have a battery based jump pack that's degraded and won't have any chance of starting a car due to its high internal resistance. It's otherwise useless, but it's good to use in conjunction with the super cap starter though, because it's perfectly able to deliver the small charge current needed.

About your video title, I was going to tell you that how is it possible to charge a dead or bad battery using a Supercapacitor Autowit, until you said this at 4:24. My autowit manual book said that the battery must have some current in order to charge it up using a Supercapacitor. Nice video, take care :)
An interesting idea, but not very practical, I'll stick with my lithium battery booster. Used it dozen of times no problem. Hook it up and it starts right away, plus it's a battery bank to charge my phone and even has a flashlight.
I think the main point of these are about the speed of charging the caps I am kind suspicious about the quality of the caps in these I could see these easily blowing caps and this becomes completely worthless

I think dewalt or makita should make one that you can plug a drill battery into. Or do you know would a 18 or 20 volt battery charge it without hurting it or putting storing more than the 13 volts. I guess you could make a drill Battery socket they sale connect to a cig lighter outlet.
I started my diesel engine with a pre-charged Autowit without battery connected. So if the car battery is totally dead, disconnect one terminal and start engine with the pre-charge Autowit, then reconnect battery terminal while engine is running.
It will start a motor with a dead battery if it is full but the only problem I has was when the autowit wasn’t completely full when first connecting it then it would not kick on to work but should because it will kick on at a lower voltage on multiple try’s. I showed this in the video if that makes sense.
Only time will tell I guess- I have just 3 years on the first one I got, and I haven't noticed any issues yet. It'd be interesting to know what the oldest Lithium jump pack in operation is with the original cells for comparison.
I’m not really sure but a few weeks ago I took it to work because one of our F550s had to be jumpstarted every morning and I was curious if this would start it and it actually did ! Needless to say me and my boss we’re both impressed.
What if the cars battery is draining power (since its probably shorted with that low voltage). I'm thinking you can try first disconnect the batery, then plug the autowit directly to the car, start the engine and only then, plug the battery
The autowit 2 was frustrating for me. It takes way longer than 3 minutes to charge up. It took almost an hour last time i tried it, and while the percentage went up over time, in the end it failed. And still have about 7 volts left in my battery initially. I don't understand why it failed. So, in the end, I charged using my powerbank to get it to 100%. It worked that way.
Bought one 3 years ago after my battery died and had to take a Lyft to go to work. After searching for the jumper, found Autowit on UA-cam, purchased one…the first series, costed me $35 at the time. My battery died again today, this Autowit Super Capacitor saved me. I used it for the first time today, it worked like a charm. When people ask me for a jump Autowit is the first device I pull out to give them a jump. If the device is low on power it takes less than an hour to fully charge it.
If you had enough of them! Any DC source at 5v or above will charge the Autowit, but it's not just the voltage, it's also the available Amp/hour (Ah) capacity of the source battery. One PP3 wouldn't do it, but...... If you have a box full of them! You can charge the Autowit from a 6v motorcycle battery. How long it would take would depend on the available Ah of the source battery. Whether the battery could fully charge the Autowit would depend on how good the battery was. You could of course keep the motorcycle engine running during the charge, so that's a bonus. Similarly, you could charge it from your lawnmower! You can charge the Autowit from a phone charger - I tried it on a 700mA charger, and it took just shy of two hours! I wouldn't go there unless it's a dire emergency. A 2A charger would do better, of course, but I didn't fancy the risk of burning it up for an unnecessary experiment.
It wouldn't work. It'd start trying to draw more current than the 9V battery can put out. Where the 9v battery comes in handy is to get it to switch on the output in the absence of a minimum voltage, if you precharged the capacitors and override the safety.

I Keep both a Gooloo 4000s and an Autowit in my vehicle. It sounds like overkill but if you run across someone with a diesel Engine where you have warm up the glow plugs first then the Autowit will not work in that case either.
My buddy got one a while back and he has a 3 cylinder diesel zero turn mower and the battery was dead on it one day And went to use it and it wouldn’t even crank it hardly like 3 cranks and it was done he tryed it 3 times and still wouldn’t I wouldn’t mind having one to play around and try but don’t want to pay that much for one with out Playing around with one to see what it can do
Diesel.... Probably glow plugs. The super capacitors can't sustain a charge long enough to energize the glow plugs and start it. Any large drain before starting will reduce the chance of success. This is a known limitation of starting by super capacitors. I would recommend them for gasoline engines but case-by-case for diesel.
The original Autowit did allow the output to be enabled in the absence of a connected battery, but they needed to make it more fool proof for the 2nd version because they're so many. I like the first gen except for the poorly thought out plastic cover for the cable connection. For the next gen they got rid of the separate output switching control box, which is tidier.

That would explain why the last 3 were never "reported back" as useful when it was their (Autowit) time to shine! I raved about how good and safe they were when I gave them away as a Christmas gift, but no one was able use it to start their car when their battery was too low! Without some way to bypass their safety feature, when needed, these things are really next to useless in an emergency! The very specific set of conditions that have to be met before it will work is very unrealistic in real-world emergency conditions! As a result, NONE of my friends were able to use their Autowit when the time arrived!!! With the 1st version that I purchased, I was able to "trick it" to start my car without a battery, but I was unable to do so with the newer version. I thought I was doing something wrong. Now I wish I could get a refund for the last 3 that I've purchased!
@@InLikeTech you can bypass the safety if you carry a 9V battery with it, and after getting it to full charge using some other donor battery, connect the leads to it. Initiate the start sequence and when it actually powers on, you can switch the connection to the dead car. It then allows a limited time for boost before the output shuts down again. The new version is like Apple, with the original being a PC. I like the original better because I could actually run a long discharge test on it, while the new design cuts it off before the caps actually discharge.
It uses the remaining energy in your NEARLY dead battery to store enough energy to produce a pulse of energy at 12 volts and high amperage to turn the starter motor.

If you have a small 12V gel cell you can keep it in hand to do the precharge, if that's something you find you need to do frequently. It'll charge up the caps quicker than using the auto cord or USB input.
@@JeremiahMcintosh It won't charge at all. I have to connect it to the 12v outlet in another vehicle to get it to charge up. When I attach it to the posts, nothing happens. Zero connection.

So what you are saying after it is 100% charged if you hook it to a vehicle with a dead battery and whenever you press the power button, it never starts counting down and sends power out if the battery is completely dead?
If the vehicle requires extended cranking to start due to poor condition or needing to prime the fuel system, then the limited crank time capability would probably not be suitable. Then the standard alternatives like jumper cables or regular battery jump packs might be needed.
This thing they should design it and install it in the new cars engine bay and have its instruments on the dashboard ...since it can last for years ,i mean its just a capacitor 😊...
lol u can make ur own version of this for like 30$ in parts off aliexpress and actually put the right sized caps inside so its not running the 2.7v caps at 3v and wont burn itself out after a few dozen discharges... the fact that they want over 100$ for something that someone in guangzhou skimmed off 5$ in parts to double their margins. no thanks. the reason it doesnt crank no matter what is coz lead batteries tend to explode when u do stupid stuff like that
I left my lights on in my car yesterday, tried this to jump start it. It didn't work. But, it had been sitting in my trunk for months without any charging.
It doesn’t hold a charge you have to charge it with the remaining power left in the battery but if you left your lights on your battery could’ve been 100% dead which wouldn’t work. You could have charged it up quickly from someone else’s battery and then jumped your car with it.
Not really a fair example of this unit because you charged the capacitor before jump starting. Most people are going to just leave it in their car and it’s NOT going to be charged because it loses its charge anyway after a few days! So, what, you’re going to charge this thing 2-3 times a week, every week, forever? Just in case your car doesn’t start one day??

And on the mustang you said you charged the capacitor from the lawnmower before trying to jumpstart it. I like the unit and will probably get one… but I think the point is to try and demonstrate its capabilities when it isn’t pre charged, because you know we’re all going to leave it in our vehicle and nobody is going to pre charge the thing every week just in case their car dies.
Too finicky. Just get a regular jump starter with good reviews and keep it charged. Most now can be charged by your vehicle's phone charger(when it's running), anyway.

The majority of the time when a battery goes bad and doesn’t have enough juice to start your car this works perfect , I’ve already used mine at least 3 to 4 times out and about and it has worked flawlessly. Now, yes if you leave your lights on by accident and drain it completely to nothing, then it won’t work unless you charge it off of someone else’s battery. That being said I love mine and would love to get another one.

Yes, if your battery is 100% completely dead with zero voltage, it will not be enough juice to recharge the capacitors.

If it can start up an old farm dead battery tractor then it most definitely can start an all of a sudden low car battery. Nice !!
A very believable video!! FYI, my 06 Altima's battery was dead last week, hooked up the Autowit I bought last year, and car started right up.

So far every test I have watched on these has been the same.they really work.

Yeah, that's how we'll know. Mine that Lithium batteries are more than 3 years old and still work fine.

@@InLikeTech you can bypass the safety if you carry a 9V battery with it, and after getting it to full charge using some other donor battery, connect the leads to it. Initiate the start sequence and when it actually powers on, you can switch the connection to the dead car.
It then allows a limited time for boost before the output shuts down again.
The new version is like Apple, with the original being a PC. I like the original better because I could actually run a long discharge test on it, while the new design cuts it off before the caps actually discharge.

How does temperature outside effect it? If it is winter and I try to start my diesel tractor will.it work

It uses the remaining energy in your NEARLY dead battery to store enough energy to produce a pulse of energy at 12 volts and high amperage to turn the starter motor.

Darn I charged mines with a 13 Watt solar panel in 10 to 15 minutes.

Yes you can charge it from another vehicle either with the 12v cigarette lighter outlet or their battery.

How do you charge this unit from electric outlet at home?
There is a micro USB port on the side and you can charge it through that but it does take longer. .

Yes with any 5v charging brick like for charging cell phones.
You can charge the Autowit from a phone charger - I tried it on a 700mA charger, and it took just shy of two hours! I wouldn't go there unless it's a dire emergency. A 2A charger would do better, of course, but I didn't fancy the risk of burning mine up for an unnecessary experiment.
If you have a small 12V gel cell you can keep it in hand to do the precharge, if that's something you find you need to do frequently.
It'll charge up the caps quicker than using the auto cord or USB input.
Do any retail stores sell these?
I have never seen them for sale in any retail stores not sure.

Did you wait after connecting to make sure it was at 100% first. As you can see in my video when it’s lower than 100 it won’t kick it on.

Contact the manufacturer or where you purchased it. Sounds like a logic control problem.

@@JeremiahMcintosh It won't charge at all. I have to connect it to the 12v outlet in another vehicle to get it to charge up. When I attach it to the posts, nothing happens. Zero connection.

The new version of these Autowits NO LONGER WORKS AS DESCRIBED in these old review videos! You shouldn't buy one until they fix the problem! "Your (uncontrollable) emergency condition" has to satisfy a very specific set of criterias before they will work!!! YOU CAN NO LONGER START A CAR WITH A DEAD, OR NO, BATTERY, as described in this and other old videos! Your "dead" battery can not be at a level lower than just being able to turn your motor over once. If you only hear clicks when you turn your key (which is the norm), these newer Autowits will not work for you!!! Until they allow you to bypass its new safety feature, when needed, it is unrealistic to rely on an Autowit in real-world emergency conditions!

So what you are saying after it is 100% charged if you hook it to a vehicle with a dead battery and whenever you press the power button, it never starts counting down and sends power out if the battery is completely dead?
The old tractor and quad sure stared quickly and ran smoothly for sitting there for such a long time. I don't know, seems kind of suspicious.
If the vehicle requires extended cranking to start due to poor condition or needing to prime the fuel system, then the limited crank time capability would probably not be suitable.
Then the standard alternatives like jumper cables or regular battery jump packs might be needed.
This thing they should design it and install it in the new cars engine bay and have its instruments on the dashboard ...since it can last for years ,i mean its just a capacitor 😊...

lol u can make ur own version of this for like 30$ in parts off aliexpress and actually put the right sized caps inside so its not running the 2.7v caps at 3v and wont burn itself out after a few dozen discharges... the fact that they want over 100$ for something that someone in guangzhou skimmed off 5$ in parts to double their margins. no thanks.

It does not have a battery, but it does need some sort of power to charge up the super capacitors.

I left my lights on in my car yesterday, tried this to jump start it. It didn't work. But, it had been sitting in my trunk for months without any charging.
It doesn’t hold a charge you have to charge it with the remaining power left in the battery but if you left your lights on your battery could’ve been 100% dead which wouldn’t work. You could have charged it up quickly from someone else’s battery and then jumped your car with it.
Not really a fair example of this unit because you charged the capacitor before jump starting. Most people are going to just leave it in their car and it’s NOT going to be charged because it loses its charge anyway after a few days! So, what, you’re going to charge this thing 2-3 times a week, every week, forever? Just in case your car doesn’t start one day??

I like the unit and will probably get one… but I think the point is to try and demonstrate its capabilities when it isn’t pre charged, because you know we’re all going to leave it in our vehicle and nobody is going to pre charge the thing every week just in case their car dies.
That’s because the mustang has 0 volts in the battery and it needed to be charged from something else which I mentioned in the video.

That's cheating. You charged the starter with another source before using it on the dead tractor.

Too finicky. Just get a regular jump starter with good reviews and keep it charged. Most now can be charged by your vehicle's phone charger(when it's running), anyway.

Reading reviews on line bout this item it doesn't work if battery is completely dead, it has to have certain amount of juice in the battery in order for it to work, waste of money rather buy unit that has a battery in it not having to worry bout a junky unit that only works if battery not completely dead how many batteries are completely dead when trying to start a vehicle it's 99% of the time complete waste of money invest in a battery power unit best for the money & especially emergency not having to worry bout this junk this guy is trying to pawn off..
The majority of the time when a battery goes bad and doesn’t have enough juice to start your car this works perfect , I’ve already used mine at least 3 to 4 times out and about and it has worked flawlessly. Now, yes if you leave your lights on by accident and drain it completely to nothing, then it won’t work unless you charge it off of someone else’s battery. That being said I love mine and would love to get another one.
