2.Recently the Princess has been acknowledged for her contribution to Norway, amongst others her quiet diplomacy towards President Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor, which lead to his speech: Look to Norway, a tribute to the Norwegian war effort with its enormous ship tonnage.
The song, here sung by Ingebjørg Bratland, is a very well known and loved Norwegian lullaby written by the poet Per Sivle (1857- 1904) , called "Den fyrste song" (The First Song). Verse 1 is like this: "Den fyrste song eg høyra fekk, var mor sin song ved vogga, dei mjuke ord til hjarta gjekk, dei kunne gråten stogga." And freely translated into English: The first song I ever heard When in my cradle lying Was mother's heartfelt lullaby Which ended all my crying. King Harald's mother, Crown Princess Märtha of Norway, died from cancer when he was only 17.
1. King Harald, his two sisters and their mother, the Swedish born Crown princess Martha, lived during WW II in USA. The American opinion was that Norway had given in to easy to Nazi-Germany. The Norwegian opinion after the war was that the Crown princess had done little good for Norway. Shortly after the war, Martha fell severely ill and died in 1954. Therefore, King Haralds main memories of his mother is from their stay in US.
3. «If there is anyone who still wonders why this war is being fought, let him look to Norway. If there is anyone who has any delusions that this war could have been averted, let him look to Norway; and if there is anyone who doubts the democratic will to win, again I say, let him look to Norway.» The King had unveiled a similar statue outside the Norwegian Embassy in Washington. His feeling now was that of a son who had brought his mommy’s legacy back from exile. “She had come home.”
then tell me what does the king and the queen do fore the goverment. note that i am speaking only of the norwegian ones in case u are thinking of other places.
I got a real jobb and i pay taxes. the king is only walking on red carpets and showing statues and shit like that.. i dont know how much money the goverment is using on him and his family every year but its got to be a lot. at least i serve the goverment instead of living on it.
His Majesty said in an interview that he was very moved by this song, it was indeed apreciated!
What a beautiful song and tribute to the King on his birthday. Such a thoughtful and touching gift.
For en fantastisk sang! Kongen kunne ikke ha fått en flottere sang til minne om slik en anledning! Lenge leve kongen!

This is a good ol' traditional song, Den Fyrste Song, but it went well with this unveiling. It's about 50 years or so old i think.

What is the song about?
This is a traditional song. Called Den Fyrst Song.
This is not a traditonal folk song, the lyrics is by Per Sivle published in 1877, not 50 years ago.
Music by Lars Søraas
