Let's just admit. Nobody can play bass like Peter Hook.
Mostly cuz they ain't......Peter Hook!
I'll second that
You can try.... you can get close but the essence is in the man’s DNA! Thank you Hooky. You changed my life.
Absolutely!
Well he was the one who really pushed the bounderies of what bass can do on records. I love the way he plays bass.
The bassline is absolutely genius
Bassline
Bass Hook Master!
Based.
Still watching in 2023. Can’t get enough of this song.
AMO ESSA MUSICA❤ VIAJO NO TEMPO OUVINDO!!! VOCES SÃO DE MAIS!!! PARABÉNS 👏👏👏
Dear Peter Hook, since the 1980s , I have listened to Perfect Kiss more than I have any other song. You created perfection
Me too!
Me too
Me too,
Hooky looks good and healthy, hopefully many years ahead to keep the spirit of the Factory era JD/ NO alive.
I love how he plays the bass like the lead guitar.
Goes right back to his Joy Division days, the melody in so many of those songs comes from the bass
Because New Order’s actual guitarist was, and still is, incompetent.
The perfect version of the Perfect Kiss, far superior to the version played by the current NO lineup.
Sadly, I agree
When I first heard this in high school in 1984, it opened up the world of alternative music. I didn't fully realize it at the time, but I learned the importance of following your own path. For me, this song represented everything that was possible. It was the definition of cool.
Can't be 1984, "The Perfect Kiss" was released in 1985...! From the excellent album "Low Life" (one of my New Order's best album)... Saw the band live twice (Roskilde Festival, Denmark, July 1st, 1984 and Reading Festival, August 25 th, 1989)... Saw "Peter Hook and the Light" in Montpellier, France, on May 4 th, 2019.
Peter Hook was the heartbeat of New Order.
He’s the KING. You just can’t erase
him from New Order’s history.
Nothing compares to hooky, NO is not a new order without him.
The final three minutes of this is just an absolute clinic
Hooky's son looks so much like him. Must be amazing to play with Dad on stage to some real classics.
"Now that's how you play the fucking Perfect Kiss" Thanks so much Hook and company!
Best new order song of all time IMO
It's sad Peter Hook and the rest of New Order are enemies. But I must say, this vocalist is damn good!!!!!!!!!
That's Pottsy (David Potts), the other half of the band Monaco with Peter Hook, a great musician & friend of mine
QUE PASO?
@@fridgeman2008 Its funny people used to hammer pottsy for sounding too much like barney back in the day, now they are applauding him for doing new order better than NO are these days. NO put a concert video of this song up and a lot of the comments were how "pottsy sings this better".
This is the best version I have ever heard of this song. Top marks guys.
Holy fuck! this might be best version of this song I've heard!!!
You would not be alone in your thinking. It would be easy to think that Peter Hook and the Light might be some lightweight Joy Division / New Order covers band, but they absolutely nail the songs time after time. This is another great example, and I would agree with you, it's the best version I've heard.
@@NoxiousRob i also refuse to see new order live with out hooky in the lineup.
@@NoxiousRob my favorite version is the one from the Demme video, but they did a great job here!
Hooky’s bass riffs are just unique
It is literally my favorite song of all time.
Peter Hook creates the sound of New Order that my ears crave to hear. I can't describe it exactly but the last 2 1/2 minutes of this song sums it up pretty much.
Hooky and son, simply the best bass playing ever.
Forever peter Hook (joy division). 🤘🏴☠️🤩🤩
Wow David sounds so much like Bernard
Yeah pottsy has a great voice. Saw them a week ago, amazing gig, when he took lead it was like watching new order.
I love the song but 6:12 it gives me chills when they kick it into high gear!! Love love. I can only imagine how euphoric it is to play this song!!
Needs more cowbell.... ;)
No, seriously, the last 3 minutes of Perfect Kiss are probably my favourite piece of music ever.
Agreed. Hooky's solo is simply pure epicness.
Sounds just as crisp as the original version!
I've always seen The Perfect Kiss as the definitive dance-rock song.
Though, im biased, as New Order is my absolute favorite band ever
There is no New Order without Peter. Love this version. Well done all.
I totally agreee!!!!!!
In love with the "Poland" Keyboard...
Great version and Hook jammin/dancing. Yes I'll have another 👍👍
What a song!!! Makes me miss the good old days before COVID ❤️
The ratio of that high bass note on the 4th string, and the low to the ground playing of Hooky is the largest in the history of recorded music. I salute you, sir, and can’t wait to hearing you play this live again.
When the Hookys Bass comes in..... ❤️❤️❤️
My favourite song by New Order. Hands up
I saw Peter Hook and the Light in Atlanta, probably about 8 years ago. The ticket was like $25, figured eh, if its disappointing, no great loss. Well, no need to worry, they played the entire Substance dual CD + some Joy Division, 3+hours all with a Hooky edge to it. Absolutely epic. I'd fly back there to see them again in a heart beat. They were that good.
US dates in September… www.peterhookandthelight.live
This is so amazing. I saw New Order a month ago and They so need Peter Hook. You can't continue like this - Joy Division/New Order really represented all the music of my life.
Sadly Barney & Phil play like hired guns who don’t really care
when new order played this song, back at 'the pier' in New York, in 1986, i had pretty good tickets. Luckily, the guys infront of me had already passed out by the time new order came on stage. it was truly amazing watching and listening to these kids and the sounds they made with their instruments (machines?) and voices. The music was loud and you couldnt help it be blown away . . . . i want it, i want it, thats why i'm here right now. i want that moment.... and peter hook just took me there!
Since the 1980s until today I probably listen to the song once a day because there is no other bass guitar solo like it
GOD OF BASS!
Just watched about 10 different versions of this record and had to come back to this one as the best!
Hooky & Potts are miles clear!
Happy birthday legend
What can you say? Nailed it. Tremendous version. Total surprise to find Pottsy on vocal. The dual vocal sounded ace. Top, top drumming and utterly sublime overall.
I see Peter Hook is still playing his bass on his knees. He was almost down to his ankles near the end there.
New Order and Joy Division, The soundtrack to my life 👌
I cant wait till we have live concerts again..
wow greatest 3 min of bass EVER starting at 6:10
The king of bass gritar, the one, Mr. Peter Hook!
Who needs Bernard when you've got Pottsy! Go on lad!😉
Yep, and who needs a lead guitarist when you've got Pete!
My heart with #HOOKY all the way 💓
Actually, my Mancunian holy Trinity consists of ~
HooKY
Johnny MaRR
LiAM
❗❗❗❗❗
I have been listening to this since 1985, and I must have heard it thousands of times. This is the best version ever. Pure genius.
same to me.
hooky the bass player that is and ever will be.................................. brilliant live version
Was able to see New Order play this live in the mid 80's this is by far the best version. Thank you.
haha 1:18 look at how high he is playing the notes.
I've never seen that before.
I like seeing the bass guitars emphasised on these songs. it really is one of the defining aspects of NO and JD music.
hooky's self-taught punk-origin 100% bad-ass sound :D
Thank you for bringing me THE LIGHT at the end of a very dark tunnel .
honest< talented, humble, the soul of the new order, long life mr. hook.
I just keep coming back to this, an absolutely stunning rendition of a brilliant New Order song.
It is criminal for UA-cam to interrupt this music midway to hawk Disney. Criminal.
I would probably had cursed so loud my neighbors could hear me if that had happened to me
Just played it again on a Bose and it is utterly ridiculous. Running out of superlatives; the crescendo when Hooky comes back in is visceral and pummelling. Always my favourite New Order tune, just ! This version rivals the original 12 inch- marvellous !
it's like.. okay, yeah I can play the notes ... how about 4 in that same space too? holy mackerel.
Read your comment before realising it was you! This is a tour de force!
I do not even feel worthy enough to experience this!! 🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺
This is the ultimate song ever
Great song. Always been one of those songs you just don’t ever want it to end.
Mr Hooke was smart to buy the rights to his own songs as new Order.
cant believe they dont have an array of live frogs to come in in the middle!
I missed the disco doo-doo-doo sounds too
Fkin absolutely blinding, one of my fave tracks. Cheers 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Sweet! This was always one of my favorite NO songs. Loved the video too. This takes me back for sure.
Who are the knobs who downvoted 56 times?
This is the best version I have ever heard. New/Old Order tried but couldn't.
Who cares!
@@PeterHookAndTheLight Yeah. Fook 'em! (From Australia with love)

@@PeterHookAndTheLight Flawless 💪
Wow!! I completely agree! Peter Hook best bass player of all times! " Love The Perfect Kiss" takes me back to incredible memories....Huge Kiss Peter Hook.
I am amazed he can bend down like that to play his bass at his age. Fit fella. Hahaha.
Thank you Peter and The Light - as I mentioned on twitter earlier - this is the song and baseline that made me a fan for the last 35 years. Bass forward and the perfect song.
Great vocals from Potts
Leave it to Peter to bring it home on the bass😘 Perfect💋
Its so fucking epic to see Jack performing this hooky riff!!
Absolutely brilliant, saw them live in New Zealand 2014. One of the best live bands to see. Character, 🇬🇧 Legends of the music industry. Totally iconic tunes. A feel good gig that leaves you charged up.. Guitar's were so powerful on stage..Can't wait to them live again..
❤️🇬🇧💣💥
With all due respect to those other guys... it ain't New Order without Hooky... Also, love that his keyboard player is using a "Poland". :)
Keyboard bloke is the keyboardist for Doves. Recognized him precisely because of the Poland keyboard.
i come back to this at least once or twice a week it’s near perfect. can’t wait to see PH&TL when life goes back to normal
Incredible version of this song by Hook. A damn Masterpiece
Incredible bass playing. Didn’t even know a bass could make those sounds. Nice to see it up close. He stil has the fingers to make it happen.
Best base driven song ever !!
The perfection of a bass line
Hookys a legend, 😎👍
This is a phenomenon performance. It blows away the official New Order video which I thought was great until carefully compared the two.
Brilliant advert for the band, socially distanced and yet still playing as tight as gnats arse. I was a bit snooty about The Light (as they're not "really" Order), but after seeing their various performances on here, I'd be hard pushed to say which is the better live band. Not a huge fan of Hooky's singing, but David Potts is excellent.
Way to go, Peter Hook. Amazing Bass. Peter Hook bends low to play the highest bass notes there are.
I didn't know that Pete Hook played that part on the bass, thought it was a synth!
Me too!
Beast of a performance, esp that Bass at the end!
Yeah, amazing 2 and-a-half minute bass outro
That bass is his soul❤️
Thank you for playing songs true to the way the were recorded. New Order has drowned out the synths with Barney’s random plucking and the bass is non existent. Thanks for doing right by my favorite New Order song.
Amen.
I've been a NO/JD fan for 25 years but these lockdown videos are helping me rediscover these songs again...and they're really far superior! :) Currently watching way too many Hooky videos as a result!
Brilliant - absolutely brilliant. David Pott's vocals are superb! Only thing missing was the sampled car crash (twice) and COWBELLS. The world needs more cowbells!
But the frogs remained !
Thats how you play the fooking perfect kiss !!
Nailed it, indeed. Very uplifting.
This sounds much better than the recent New Order live versions. Cheers Hooky. David Potts does a great job
long live Peter Hook!!
6:13 Best part is Peter's Bass
One of the most epic last two minutes of the song in the music history. You killed it, just like that memorable night at the Grand Central in downtown Miami back in April 2015. Thank you Hooky x
It's almost like this is New Order. I've seen NO dozens of times and they don't hold a candle to this. So glad Peter is out there doing this song beat for beat just like it is on the album (minus the Frogs) Oh and Peter, you killed it in Toronto in 85. The video is on youtube.
The frogs are right there Kevin. Have another listen…
Hope to see you again in Toronto in August. www.peterhookandthelight.live
@@PeterHookAndTheLight Lol indeed friend. 5:30, not sure how I missed them the first time around.
OH MY GOD, always loved this song and this is an amazing rendition with the incredible talent Peter Hook. Kudos to 'The Light too'. Made my day guys!!!
Perfect version! One of the best NO bass lines
Thank you for the music. Thank you for the memories. New Order, the soundtrack of my life!
Best Bass ever
The excitement, flair and sheer joy of playing Hooky brings is outperforming the New Order 3/4s band at the moment.
A masterpiece indeed….been a NO fan since the beginning……the 80s was the greatest decade for music without a doubt…….this music gives me life…
