Don't confuse technique and mastery of scales ,chords etc with uniqueness . Santana has been wrongly thrown into the virtuoso world when it's his individual unique sound that is important it doesn't matter if he can shred with guys that can fly up and down the neck at lighting speed while tapping simultaneously . Santana is great because he's ,well,,, Santana and everyone else isn't . remember when sound/music enters the ear canal and is imprinted on the brain it becomes 100% subjective . people like what they like and that's that .

It's not about the guitar player or the bass, the keys, or the drummer, ect. It's about how they work together as a band. I totally agree! Eric Clapton sucks and so does Santana for sure! Peter Frampton is overrated as ever too! The only thing he had different was that voice box! You know! The device that Bon Jovi stole!
I saw Frampton in cobcert, & in Ringos band. Guy plays anything & sounds incredible. If anything he is under rated as a guitar player because of the effecy he had on the greater culture. John Fogerty is underated too.
Wow... Just wow... That was truly awful. I was expecting to see people like, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Bob Dylan etc... who really are overrated in their skills, not Legends like Santana and Eric Clapton with their tasteful mastery of the guitar. Sounds more like jealousy to me. Overrated is pretty subjective I suppose.
If by "over rated" you are looking only at parameters such as technique and speed, then some of the people you classify as over rated, well yeah I can see your point, sort of. But you forget a very important factor - emotional connection. Eric is not the best technical player and although he's no slouch speed wise , even as he approaches 80, there are now many others who would run rings around him today on those two criteria. BUT - for emotional connection in a modern player (i.e. electric as opposed to classical or acoustic) EC is head and shoulders above the sorts of guys who front up the big flashy, noisy bands. That he is still going strong 60 years later and has sold millions, has been inducted three times into the R&R HoF, won numerous Grammies, fills the Royal Albert Hall every year for weeks on end, tells you he's doing something right. And he's also not the only guy to make a good living out of the minor pentatonic. Music is meant to communicate something and Eric puts his heart and soul into every performance, putting his feelings out there through his finger tips. I will take that over somebody who can play a thousand notes a minute every day of the week. But it's your opinion, your channel and it's a free world. Although you did miss out the two Jimmies (Page and Hendrix). Santana is past his best and has become a little generic, but when he came on the scene with Abraxas and Caravanserai, they were ground breaking albums.
