Already almost 20 years since this classic came out! I remember when it was released and bought the CD. The symphonic part blew me away. Nice contrast with the other, faster stuff. Usually I started my cd at the symphonic track and let it go from that to the blastbeats :) How time flies....I was still in my teens then :) This EP is certainly one of my all time favourites. Brings back many good memories of times long past.
One of the few enhanced cd ep's that I bought as soon as it was released and keep listening and enjoying entirely: cover, songs, arrangements, lyrics..
Keine CD, eine EP, schickten uns Emperor Mitte der 90er aus dem hohen Norden Europas, auf die Menschheit. Das 93er Debüt, war schon frostig, und 96 hielt die Kälte noch an. Auch diese Band, nicht mehr in originaler Besetzung, aber diese EP, hat alles, was man für kalten BM braucht, Stimme, Sound, Produktion, einfach eine Gruppe, die viel für die heutige Szene, getan hat.
As awesome as anthems is, I have to say I might prefer this version of loss and curse of reverence. The production by the time they hit anthems massively changed. This version sounds like it leans closer to the nightside eclipse production. I think it sounds a little less muddy, while still avoiding being too squeaky clean.
As much as I hate to say it, this EP is probably my favorite thing by Emperor mostly because the synths take a backseat compared to their other albums.
I'm 4 years late, but yes, the album "Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk" has both songs in higher quality. Unfortunatly, Emperor's songs sound different on every release, it's quite frustrating.
At the time this was a big no no for Black Metallers , I remember having watched the video for the 1st song on MTV and I was disgusted by it following the pattern of all which they were supposedly opposing . Music reflected this accessibility to a broader , thus , more idiotic audience . Actually this is one of those times I agree with Varg 100% , when in some interview he said : ´ When I 1st lsitened to the 1st Emperor album I knew what we had accomplished had been perverted , it was the beginning of the end ` ... something to that effect - was he spot on ! Black Metal soon became a self parody of itself , exceptions regardless - Negura Bunget , Ved Buens Ende , Dodheimsgard etc ...
